Hey all!
I own a pin that has a trades vs wants of 1 to 14. I am the only person trading this pin at the moment. Now, this is a new pin so the trades number could be changing at any moment. My question is, if you were the only person trading this pin, how would this factor in to your decision making. I have had a few offers on the pin but I keep wondering if I should wait it out for a better offer.

Ratios can give you an idea of relative desire in the trading market place. IE, an objective measure of the relative 'value' or 'scarcity' of a pin. 14:1 is very steep. But....it still comes down to how much someone wants that pin and how much you want what they have to trade.

Suppose you need a pin to complete a set. You see the trade ratio at 1:1 (say 40 want and 40 trade). You probably would not give as much for that pin as you might if it were 14:1 as in your example.

The flip side of that is that you might want the pin to complete a set that is not important to you. In that case you might not give up something good enough to complete the set. For example, I would not give you much for that particular pin (DCL) because I have zero interest in it even though the ratio is high. However, if it were an attractive and in demand Donald, I might be willing to give a lot for it.

I took a look at your trades list, and if the pin is which one I think it is, I would consider the LE size and the price more than trade vs wants. "Specific cruise" cruise pins have a limited number of people wanting them. Pretty much people who were on the cruise but didn't get a pin, people who collect all cruise line pins. But it doesn't have a specific character on it, to reach a broader audience. If you compare it to the pins on previous TA cruises: [pinpics]54910[/pinpics], [pinpics]56691[/pinpics] the number of people having the pin for trade could likely end up greater than the number of people wanting. This one has a lower LE than those, so hopefully that will help. I would be more worried about other traders trading to the few people who want the pin, and then not having anyone to trade with in the future, then trading it for too little of value.

For a more general case, I would ask some questions like "Does my pin have a wide audience or a small one" Certain characters can really help in that regard : Tink, Stitch, Princesses these days. Also, "Was my pin difficult to get?" For example, my Dad had a pin that only he was trading. It was a pin that was awarded to merchandise CM's in one land of the MK. So he traded it for a vintage pin that he had been wanting that not very many people were trading.
