Hello all,

I was wondering that if you travel on an airplane how do you take your pins with you? Do you carry it on and take the risk security won't let you take them through (almost happened to me once)? Or do you put it in your suitcase?

I normally put it in my suitcase as the only risk really is maybe a scratch. After today I have changed my mind to bringing it on board with me. The reason I say it is because the airline company lost my bag and I am supposed to be trading at DLP tomorrow. The worst part is it is probably $200+ worth of pins including about 90% of my main collections (guess it's time for a new collection) and they have NO idea where the bag is...

I know that lost luggage only happens every once in a while but when I'm only there for three days and now I can't trade for one of them it really throws a curveball. I just thought I would share this with others before they fly to re-think where they store their pins.

I'm sorry that the airline lost your luggage. My philosophy is to never check anything in a bag that I really want or need.

Oh my gosh, that is such a disaster. I'm so sorry that happened to you. I don't take planes often but I always try to carry on everything except clothes, power cords and other stuff that I can replace easily. I travel light, so I can fit the other stuff into a backpack and bring it with me. I don't trust the baggage handlers not to steal or break stuff. I really hope they find your bag.

I always carry on my pins. Always allow for extra time!!! Pull your pin bags out of the carry on luggage you are carrying them in so that it makes it easier for the screeners to see what you have.

I've had airlines lose my luggage before and it has shown up later, so hopefully you will get yours back. Hope so!

OMG I'M SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT THIS! Sometimes while travelling and bringing your pins with you as a carry on could be a hassle when it comes to security
but it's better to bring it with you than putting it in your checked baggage. Trust me, at first I thought when I first bought my pins back in the beginning of 2012
& I was about to travel back to Canada, I had no idea if it was going to be security issue when going through.
But as docfish2u mention, it would be a good idea to have your pins in it's own separate bag or plastic bag (however many you brought/bring)
So it would be easier for security to check it, most of the time they don't even ask you to take it out! :)

Oh no!!!! I really hope they find it!

My grandmother's bag went missing once. It wasn't at the usual luggage pick up. We went exploring and found some shady guy loading luggage, including hers, onto a cart (he did not appear to work for the airline). We grabbed it so fast and got out of there! I hope your bag is merely lost and not stolen and they find it soon. Did you have luggage tags on it? That would help heaps.

I carry on anything I really care about if I can (i.e. my iPad, purse, pins, etc.) Of course sometimes it can't be helped. I traveled to a horse show and had to put my very expensive riding helmet and boots in my luggage. Hated doing that since helmets are supposed to be replaces after a fall/impact and I was terrified the way they throw luggage the integrity of the helmet would be damaged. >.<

And terrible things can happen to carry ons too, you could get robbed, etc. Heck you could leave your pins safe at home and have a fire or break in. It's impossible to prevent every disaster. Try not to beat yourself up for not taking it as a carry on and putting it in your luggage. Generally luggage is a safe place.

Security is such a crap shoot! I traveled to a and from a place with my backpack, got home to unload it, and discovered I'd accidentally brought my pocket knife! O.o Didn't even know it was there! Security didn't flag it either time. (Perhaps it was under the length limit?) My hair stick, however, that was questioned.

I'm so sorry. Its horrible that you lost so much pins. :(
I would say the checked in suitcase is more safe though. You can also loose your hand luggage or get robbed. I hope you get your suitcase back asap.

Hope you have a great time in Paris ! Love to hear about your dlp experience :D

So I have good news and bad news. The good news is they found the bag and all the pins were there without a scratch!! The bad news is no trading at Pueblos Trading Post this DLP trip... :( Gives me something to look forward to next time and now I know to bring my pins with me on the airplane.

Sorry to hear about your loss, but losing a pin bag sounds like an easy way to get a payout from the airline, lol. So much money in one bag.
