REALLY! i went in the York store last sat and both lanyards were out thought they were getting better

FINALLY! :lol: I'm like, screw the annoucement, there's a freakin' Ratigan pin on the Coming Soon page!

First they give me Gaston, then Cheshire and now they're giving me Ratigan. That's 3 of my collections. I'm a lucky lucky girl.
 
So went to my local store today and they seem to think it wount be around much longer I don't think that was the message I got also my store wanted to do a pin meet in store but Disney said no because another store did one and they said the "adult" pin collectors took over and the children could not get pins they wanted. I'm all up for putting kids first but what did they think would happen most collecters are adults so they need to re think there selling strategy I think
 
There's also an unofficial 'survey' about this over on the UKDPT group on Facebook.....its had around 90 votes so far and its good to see people responding to this.
 
survey completed, was excited to see them referencing pin pics, its a shame that disney have never managed an official site like pin pics for us all to use!
 
just completed the survey, i pointed out i was a cm too, so had a view as a collector but also what ive seen as a cm.
I know some of you are like yey no core pins, but like i just pointed out, children collect pins too, they can afford core pins, not £7 LE ones.

Yes, but don't forget that some limited edition pins used to be £3.

Nowhere in this statment do they outline thier pricing strategy.

I can see them charging say £11 or £15 for some Limited Edition pins. Like in the US in some cases.

They could also sell Limited Edition pins for £3. Say bring out smaller pins with higher edition sizes. Maybe a cogsworth and lumiere pins. LE 2000 at £3 to follow the 'core' Mrs.potts.

At the end of the day. Who knows.

In the past the limited editions sizes of some of the pins (LE2750etc) means that the pins were so over supplied that they may as well have been core/rack pins.

Yes children collect pins, but some of the features on the LE pins make the worth more so. e.g dangle pins, spinners etc. If I was a kid I would want a LE Simba/Rafiki slider for £5 more than a Fab5 rack pin for the same price as has been the case.
 

they only did like what 3 pins at £3 that were LE.
Im just going by serving guests, and what I have seen as a CM, i really enjoy talking to children about the pins, and trading with them on the lanyards, alot of little kids buy the £3 core pins, and yes an LE £7 pin will be more worth while but to them they dont understand that, they just want to but a pretty pin and collect them, its just fun for them. I just think its unfair on the children thats all, some kids get a few pounds a week for pocket money to save and spend, and its nice that they can buy something that is a collectible thing with it, plus they buy them to swap on the lanyard, there only kids to them its not as serious they dont care for them being LE when theyre 7 years old.
 
They might not care for them being LE. But they might care for them being a spinner, slider, dangle etc.

I can see pin trading in stores changing or ceasing. So it is something to follow with interest.
 
on the facebook page, alot of people are angry about the loss of core pins, especially people who buy then for their kids. I dont see why they have to go.
 
From a business perspecitve I presume the fact is they take up capactiy in the warehouse and in stores. Also, they might not be making money on them.

I can understand why people will be annoyed. The core pins do make good traders for places like DLRP.

I am not personally agrieved and it suits me fine. I have never managed to make any decent trades for UK core pins...

hahah it takes up a few racks in our store, im looking at it from serving actual guests over the past 2 years and their experiences with them, and the fact disney is a family thing, and pin trading is meant to be family fun, i think that gets forgotten, and sometimes its annoying about how serious it gets, its a hobby. I think UK core pins are just for people just to add to their collection or trade with cast lanyards, and gives children the freedom to do that, as they dont have an understanding of what pins are worth etc.
 
they must make enough to be carrying it on, and im sure they make money on every pin they sell, sure it wont be at a loss. and i know its a business, but disney are also an experience, their standards and rules are alot different to other business' if the majority of people are upset at the loss of core pins it just shows how popular they really were, plus having core pins makes the LE ones a bit more special, you dont have the "oh well every disney pin is LE so not its not that special" think of how exciting it is when you trade on the lanyards at the park and you get a pin and then you realise its an LE one, you wouldnt have that excitment if Disney didnt do core pins.
 
I used to be a cm myself and i do agree with what fly_with_me_dumbo has said but Martin has also made a good point about not knowing how the pricing of pins is going to work in the future we will all just have to wait & see what happens,i hope Disney do some events/meets in the future to really see how it can all work as the event in Milton Keynes was mainly adults as we only had 2weeks notice and all rushed around trying to make arrangements but trading is definately a family hobby for all ages/backgrounds/abilities i started collecting pins now my partner,4yr old daughter and 3yr old son are all collecting too all based on different ideas of course.

We have had several meets in Devon and attend the Southampton meets aswell and it has been great to see more and more different people joining in and many more families taking up the hobby the little ones are pin tradings future community and i really hope Disney UK do bring out enough pins that are about £5 to keep us able to encourage more people to join us in our obsession....i mean hobby

Also what i'm doing now when i go to meets is having LE pins/more sought after pins in a seperate pin bag or folder so they are for more serious trades but i have a pin bag full of pins i'm not that bothered about what i trade for which i use to trade with new traders and children and i will trade any of those pins for another that way it makes it easier to not upset people/put them off trading as they don't understand the difference between le and core/rack pins and edition sizes etc knowing whats a fair trade is sometimes difficult for us to know let alone for someone just seeing a pin and liking it and alot of us now carry info to meets about Pinpics,Dpf and other groups which can be a great help to people interested in pin trading or thinking about taking it up as a hobby.

Disney is a business and won't carry on with something that isn't making them money but hopefully by us completing the survey,letting them know how passionate we all are about pins there is enough interest in the UK for them to continue to make pins and develop trading more in the UK many people visiting stores havn't been to a park or have encountered trading while in wdw or dlrp but don't realise you can actually trade in stores in the UK and they won't unless cast lanyards are worn all the time and pins are promoted all it would take is one dedicated person in every store to help boost everyones awareness and ultimately boost sales!

Ok i will now be quiet as everything i'm saying has i expect been said before i'm trying to decide if i should go to a store next week and buy lots and lots of core pins as we can buy 25 of each pin i could stock up for the kids for quite a while trouble is i know i wouldn't just buy pins but other stuff too mmmm decisions decisions lol
 
Hey, this is a real shame...luckily for me I kinda stopped collecting the uk pins a good while ago because most of the times I went to the store the pins werent available on release days or even days later, plus my local store stopped trading ages ago. However i filled out the questionnaire and would be happy if they could improve the uk trading system.

I also think its sad they are completely stopping core pins as it means people who dont have a lot of money are pretty much being ecluded from pin collecting in a way because not everyone can afford to spend £7 or more per pin. They were also just nice to be able to have.

I am very looking forward to a pochontas and tangled pin in the future though xxx
