Okay, for a short time, first class letters were 49-cents, then dropped back down to 47-cents.

It's back up to 49-cents as of Sunday!

Parcel costs increase as well ($2.67 for up to 4 ounces)

 This makes me sad especially since they closed our local post office and I have to drive twenty miles to get to the next one.

For first class packages, use Stamps.com or PayPal.com/shipnow (can also use this for priority packages). For USPS Priority or first class international, create an account and use USPS Click 'n Ship. And then hand off to your postal carrier when he or she is making deliveries. They can scan as accepted too, but can't provide a receipt.

starry_solo... great advice. I've actually been debating on whether or not to get my own scale and start doing this. Thanks.

I think stamps.com gives you a free scale and so much in postage for trying them out. Then, after the first month, there's a monthly subscription price? I don't know how much it is.

But, as long as the prices for 5-8 ounces stays the same, I usually mark things 8 ounces when I'm not sure and it's never been over. LOL.
