How did those auction pins work? I mean, $86 retail for 1 pin?!?

From what I understand, people would bid on it until the auction ended. Whatever the value of the pin ended up, that is how much the pin was sold for.

They were sold through Disney's Ebay storefront. They were dutch auctions, but ran exactly the same way as any other Ebay auction to determine the final price.
