Working out a trade wit someone who has several of the pixar mystery collection element chasers I'm interested in. Trading for a fantasia POMH pin coming Thursday. I have a friend who will he at the park and can pretty much guarantee a good scene. How hard were the element chaser pins to get? I don't want either of us to get short changed in this trade. Is 1:1 a fair trade? Hoping someone(pixar perils?) Can offer some insight. Thanks.

Brad

First of all, for those of you who don't know, we are talking about the Pixar Shorts mystery collection, released at DLR and WDW one year ago. [pinpics]80661[/pinpics] Sorry there's no picture, but this listing includes the Pinpics numbers for all 30 pins in the series, which do have individual pictures.

I remember when these came out. The series was *truly* a "mystery" to us. Disney released zero information about it, except what was written on the boxes (which was very vague). No one knew how many pins there were in all, or how many chasers of each pin we were supposed to be looking for. We didn't even know what qualified a pin as a "chaser". It was very confusing, but eventually we figured out that some designs have only one version, some have two, and some have three, (making it very difficult to frame, btw).

I did not buy any boxes myself, as I live in Texas. So I waited for others to open their boxes, and put their extras up for sale on pin forums or the bay. But I was there in spirit (through the pin forums), trying to figure the series out. I spoke with many people who opened boxes themselves, and this is what I remember:

I do know that they were $19.95 for a box of two pins. Despite what it says in the PinPics listing (which was taken from the mystery boxes), I believe each box contained one of the 10 regular "flat" pins, and one of the 20 chasers. In most boxes, the chaser was one of the 10 element chasers, but in some boxes, the chaser was one of the 10 gold logo chasers. I can't say for sure, since I didn't open any boxes myself, and since they didn't put an LE size on any of the pins, but my guess, from talking to people who opened boxes, and from what I saw available for purchase at the time, would be that there was a gold chaser in about 1 out of every 4 boxes.

So to answer your question, the 10 element chasers were not much rarer than the 10 regular pins. If my estimations are correct:

Regular pins: 1 in every box
Element chasers: 3 out of every 4 boxes
Gold Logo chasers: 1 out of every 4 boxes

I hope this helps, at least a little bit. As for value, I have no idea. I don't own any POMH pins, but I do know based on reading posts on this forum that having someone there on the release date does not mean you will get a good scene.

Good luck, and if you have any other specific questions, I'd love to help!

That actually helps immensely PP. Thank you. So the non gold logo element chasers are no more rare than the flats. That is primarily what I wanted to know. Thank you sooooooo much!

I guess my question was more how rare were they than worth?

Humm, I bought several of these boxes in WDW last December...I did NOT get a chaser in every box. The gold logo was the most rare, I got one in 10 boxes, and a couple of the "element" chasers, which were basically a pin on pin element to the standard flat pin that was the none chaser version. The gold logo was like a small additional gold logo pin put on the element chaser, which in my view blocked out portions of the actual pin. The pins in my opinion, were actually quite nice...They were hard to find, but not impossible, they were sold out in MK, Epcot and Hollywood, but I was able to find them in AK and found 2 boxes at the pin store at Downtown Disney. I bought them primarily for the chasers after getting one off a cast member's lanyard. I've never really been able to trade much with them, but they are nicer than most OE pins and some LE ones.

the "element" chasers, which were basically a pin on pin element to the standard flat pin that was the none chaser version.

This is why I disliked the use of "flat" in the Pinpics listings for the 10 regular (non-chaser) pins. It led many people to believe that if a pin is flat, it is not a chaser. But the element chasers were not just the ones featuring a pin-on-pin element. Some of them had different extra elements, such as stained glass, or movement, or in one case, a free-d element, which qualified those as an element chaser. So you may have been getting chasers, and not even realized it. :)

I am glad you chimed in, Lemec. I agree that they are very nice pins, and that the gold logos block part of the pins, making them less desirable for myself, personally.

I got 2 flats and 2 of the regular element chasers today and absolutely love these pins! the accordian for One Man Band movies as does the head of the lamp on Luxo! I really hope they do some more pixar pins from shorts that have been released since these came out...especially day and night and hawaiian vacation!

Yes, yes, I would always like to see more Pixar shorts pins! They could do something really neat with "Day & Night", in my opinion.

The problem with "Hawaiian Vacation" is that the main storyline surrounded Barbie and Ken. So unless it's just a "Hawaiian Vacation" logo, I doubt they will do one. :/

I'm glad you were able to get so many of these pins!

Yes, and that was only the first in a series of "Toy Story Toons" shorts.

The second Toy Story toon will air before the new Muppet movie, which comes out this next month.
