WDI - No more Golden Tickets After the event in August

While at Disneyanna/NFFC today and standing in the never ending line at WDI, I was talking with Kris (She is the one in charge at WDI) - we were talking about how maybe the release flyer wasn't the best idea for the true collectors and I brought up that at least we had a golden ticket event next month when she told me that the August Golden Ticket event will be the last one of its kind.

As it turns out people have been faking the tickets and selling the real tickets on ebay. So they have decided since people want to try to "tarnish" the good fun and spirit that these were intended to be there will be no more golden ticketed events. They were planning on having grab bags and having another golden ticket opportunity at NFFC but instead they are doing away with it. She said now the only public opportunities to get WDI merchandise will now be the TWO D23 days. She wanted me to pass the word and to let everyone know that because of a few greedy individuals we will no longer have our WDI opportunities.

Hi,
I think that you meant two DFC days, rather than D23. The DFC show/sale days are usually on Sundays. FYI: The January Show/Sale will be moved to the Presidents' Day weekend in February. The D23 days are usually on Saturdays and usually three times a year - fall, winter, spring.
 
noooooo I was hoping that one day I'd save up enough money to go there I'd some how get hold of a ticket
 
It doesn't take much effort to add a little hologram sticker that can't be faked as easily. Or use a print that can't be photocopied. Or have Kris initial them in pen, something. I just don't understand the lack of effort to help circumvent the idiots so the rest of us can enjoy the hobby. Too many dishonest people with no integrity.
 
Unbelievable - its like Pin Trading and anything linked has become a profession for these people! I know its hard times for everyone but why ruin a hobby that people love and enjoy? Typical!

EDIT - As per the above post - to be honest all you need to do is put some small print on an item saying not for resale then if one is spotted on eBay a simple message to ebay to have the item withdrawn should do it. The manage it with concert / event / sports tickets, and video game 'online' content that people try to sell.

I know it can be frustrating but you have to think it is a hobby that has some money into it. Hello, the marquee pins sell for what.... $400.00 for Tangled! It's crazy and sometimes unfair but there are retail locations like My D-Pins that buy pins to sell. I mean, it's just how things are. :/ It can be annoying at times but just like any collecting hobby there is usually a reseller near by.
 


good solution except for the idiots selling the authentic tickets for hignprices as well...
 
To me ther are just a few bad apples, and may know who they are. They find any way possible to get an advantage to make more money or get more rare pins than others to coax better deals in their favor. Wristbands aren't even fair anymore because people sign up as many times as they want. And Disney is too apathetic to care. They just want money. If they required you to show ID for anyone over 18 or if they are under 18 be required to put an adults name that will attend the release with them you will get rid of all these ghost requests.
As I discussed with another DPF member at the Disneyana show. They request 20 or 30 wristbands and if their one "real" one doesn't get picked, but 5 of their fake ones do, they know the second chance line will have at least 5 spots worth of pins left over. So they just show up to get in the first 5 for the left overs and they know they will get what they want. But then there are 5 people that would have actually been willing to sign up and show up that didn't get picked.
I don't know if there is any one way to fix it that is fair to all. But to stop doing golden tickets without first trying to at least circumvent the losers is pretty lazy (and lame) on WDI's part. I'll be there on the 25th. I bought a $25 mystery bag at the D23 event and got my golden ticket the legit way. Maybe I can talk them into trying something else before completely swearing it off. Signing up for random selection using D23 membership numbers would be another option, for the MoG visits anyway. Still not sure how to fix DLR or DSF releases to be more fair. I think larger edition sizes and limiting one per person. Like from now on LE300 are 1 per person and LE500 are 2 per person, something like that. They've made LE500 Marquees in the past at DSF and they are still worth more than the original sale price. It's not like it's LE5,000.

I'm not mad if someone wants to sell their ticket. I am mad if they are photocopying and selling fake tickets. That just gets more people in. Selling their own at least keeps the number of people the same.

If this were about controlling bad behavior at DSF, or LGM, or Pin Traders or some public retail location, I might agree with you. But regular people aren't entitled to go to Mickey's of Glendale. IMO, they should remain committed to their objective in providing a quality retail experience for the employees of Imagineering and other Disney CM's who have privileges to visit. They should have the freedom to set up a system (or not have one) that works for them, and not be expected to jump through hoops or branded as lazy. The expectations placed on MOG should be akin to those for any employee-only shop in the country. Celebrate if they let you in, but don't get all grumpy with them when they don't.
 

Taking the easy way out and cancelling them all together is the lazy way out. I didn't do anything wrong yet I am being punished for others stupidity and greed. It doesn't take much to get a little hologram sticker or sign a ticket. I have gift certificates to small mom & pop type places where their signature is the only thing keeping them from losing money. A signature is pretty hard to fake, especially if the person has consistant handwriting. It leaves and indentation that can't be faked unless the person forges it and forging a signature is a crime. Photocopying a piece of paper I don't think would get much legal attention.

The thing is Disney knows they are making products that are collectible and will apprecite in value instantly, yet they are prepared to do little to keep it fair for everyone. Personally I don't think they should do things like make an LE150 Jessica as pin and then release it at a convention when only convention resellers get a chance to buy them, and I'm not the only one. Make them LE500 and one per person, or anything that is more fair. They have to know they are just feeding into their own headaches.

Just for clarification some people were selling their tickets on ebay and some people were making fake tickets - i do not believe they were seling the fake ones- but i could be wrong. But it sounded to me like two separate things.
 
I was very dismayed yesterday when I heard this. Then I was angry. Why do people want to mess up a good thing? Yes, one bad apple will ruin the experience for everyone. If you search WDI Golden Ticket, there are 4 items for sale with the golden ticket and 1 item sold. In this case there are 2 sellers and they are both from Arizona. They could have been here for the D23 event and can't come back for the August event. They could have been a family of 5.

What I'd been told is that someone was selling their golden tickets on ebay and management was not happy about it. I never heard that the tickets were fake. I hadn't heard anything about anyone duplicating the tickets until I read it here.

But today I'm sad that this will have ruined a fun pin trading day that several of us always looked forward to.
 

So if that's the case then take down the name and D23 member number of the person when they get their golden ticket that day. Then only that person can return (with a guest.) I've heard people basically zapping others with their tickets when they can't go. A friend of mine bought a ticket with her mystery bag last time but lives in SanFran and can't make it so she gave hers to someone else.
CM's and their friends will benefit I guess. WDI pins will be even harder to get and the few events they do have will be even more crazy.

I think a lot of people are forgetting that this was a privilege to go there. It is not your right to go. It's an exclusive store for CM's and while yeah it's nice you can go, Disney or WDI staff is not obligated to let anybody else enter. If they wanna pull Golden Tickets, they can. It sucks, but /shrug.
 
I'm hoping that maybe they will pull it for a while and then possibly come up with a new system with some of the anti-counterfiting ways. However - I think they were more upset about the fact that some people were trying to make a buck by selling their golden tickets. It was supposed to be a "special" thing not a who will pay the most to go kinda thing.
