What's On Your Lanyard?

I was just wondering . . . how do most people use their lanyards, especially at a pin trading event? Is that where you display the finest of your pin finery? Or do you hide those pins away and use your lanyard for your pin-for-pin traders?

I have only traded in the parks, and I have been hesitant to wear my nicer pins around in the parks, especially when I go on fast rides. But a part of me thinks it would be nice at a pin trading event to utilize those locking pinbacks and wear my nicer pins in a place where they could be appreciated.

I almost never wear lanyards around the park - they get heavy and itchy and I get paranoid about losing pins off of them, even with locking backs. I keep my park traders in a bag. I do wear a lanyard to pin releases if the pins are related to one of my lanyards. I use mine to display my best/favorite pins.

I have multiple lanyards - Lion King, Robin Hood, Felix+Calhoun, and I just got a Joy one that I have to fill with Inside Out.

Last year at the event, I wore my wide lanyard with my grand daughters Frozen pins. That lasted about an hour into the event. The lanyard rubbed the back of my neck and was just too heavy. I wear a lanyard with my trading pins for the parks. When I get tired of it, I put it in my drawstring backpack.

I don't usually wear my lanyards in the parks. But my "brag" lanyard has all my flag Mickey heads, a rainbow Mickey, an October Tink, a Tink pin with my name on it, and the sparkly Mickey head from the park pack.

I had my Jessica gumball one on it for a while when I thought I'd be cute and wear it, but I decided I had enough of people asking about it and if they could trade their hidden mickeys for it. :-/.

Ive be thought about doing themed lanyards just for display but I have no good display space. All my lanyards are on one hook on my door under a hat.

When I visit I have a couple of lanyards . Both full of park traders (booster , mystery etc) .
I take two because I always offer the CM their choice of pin and I've often got multiples of the same booster set so I prefer to have a decent amount of options .
My better traders I keep in a standard Disney collectors bag , although I just got a DLR 60th bag to use in the future (thank you Sean ) .
I'm far too paranoid about pins falling off so I have a ziplock bag in my backpack to hold my traders whilst on rides .

We used our lanyards for traders and kept our favorites in our zippered pin bag. We took the lanyards off and put them in my park bag while on rides. It was fun to talk pins with other guests in line and having our traders visible was an easy way to strike up conversations. I did notice MANY people with VERY nice pins on their lanyards and thought that perhaps the lanyard was used more for keepers than traders, but we were too worried about losing pins in the park.

I'm making a lanyard right now actually! It's more of a "brag" lanyard as well. No traders will be on it. I just want normal non-traders to be able to enjoy looking at them too! I have a plastic/rubbery thing (hard to explain) that I lay it into when I go on faster rides/get tired of wearing it. However, usually when I go to Disney we take it slow so I find it doesn't bother me that much.

At DLP events I've noticed people wear "brag" lanyards. I wore traders so that they would be out and ready for any CM's hosting the event I wanted to trade with quickly. I always wear the traders I like the least and would have no problem getting rid of any of them for one I see that I want. Then I have my bag of traders with me at the table or carry with me to open up and hand over to them to look through when there is a special pin to try and get from someone.

I don't do the lanyard thing really, but I do have one (actually two) that I wear to random conventions on rare occasions! I like to put some pins that represent what I like/my main collections on there for fun! Just extra pins (doubles) though, as my real collections stay safe in my pin bags until I get some frames for them, haha!

Haven't received any comments on the pins, but that's probably partially due to most people looking at my strange costumes rather than the lanyard!

I only wear traders in the park we are getting our lanyards ready for our upcoming WDW trip. I collect fun park traders all year for our trip. We mostly trade with CMs but we have run into some guests at the Epcot tables occasionally. I keep a small pin bag with my better stuff in case we see serious collectors. I've gotten a little discouraged lately because I'm seeing so many parents in non-pin Disney FB groups that admit they buy ebay fakes to trade and they just don't care. I used to think it was mostly people who didn't know any better who did that. I wish people would do the right thing because I would love to do more guest trading. Anyway, our lanyards are all for trading because I don't want to lose anything from our collections. Those stay at home.

I keep traders on mine in the parks. Sometimes I'll walk around with a few of my main collection ones on during Mickey's Not So Scary or Downtown Disney.

I went to Disneyland the first time this past December. Something I noticed different there than at WDW is that DL people seemed to love to have lanyards covered in expensive and rare pins all in those little plastic wraps. I passed several people with several hundred dollars and higher worth of pins around their necks. I rarely see people do anything like that at WDW. I think the rarest/most expensive I've seen someone wear at WDW was the giant animal tower one from Lion King.

So they leave the plastic sleeves on even when wearing the pins on a lanyard? Huh. That's a new one for me.

This has been very helpful. I think I am going to go half-and-half and wear a lanyard with some of my nicer pins mixed with some traders for easy access. I was thinking that a lanyard with my state character pins would be fun, because those are good conversation-starters. But I was also thinking about putting together a "Main Street USA" themed lanyard with my Main Street USA and "turn-of-the-century" style pins. So much to think about . . .

I keep traders on my lanyard, but they're all villain pins that I have already so people can see what I'm looking for. I also keep two bags of traders that don't fit into my collection: one of more common pins to trade with CMs, and one of better ones in case a Guest wants to trade

At the WDW annual pin event, I usually wear the newest mystery box pins that were released at the event. It seems to me that this is the time of "maximum interest" for these pins. I really couldn't have my ultra-rare keepers on a lanyard because I'd be afraid I'd leave the lanyard somewhere and forget it (or someone walks off with it) or that I'd lose a valued pin off this lanyard as the day wears on.

I'm not sure when my next opportunity to visit a park will be, but I suspect I'll wear something classic that can serve as a conversational piece with others.

I had no intent to pin trade when I went to WDW last week. About two days into the trip I couldn't resist; I bought a starter lanyard kit. I told myself I would just have a good time and make a trade with each cast member I came into contact with since I didn't care about any of my pins. Eventually what happened, I ended up with the Disneyland A ticket pin from 2005. I didn't expect to find any others there but I did. Soon thereafter I ended up with the C, D, and E ticket pins also.

My point is, those pins are not anything super rare or impressive, but they are classic pieces of Disney that people uninvolved in the hobby can appreciate. I had an older gentleman standing behind me in line comment on how cool they were, and how seeing them brought "nostalgic memories to [his] heart."

As much as I love Stitch and Jack Skellington, I prefer to keep those in my bag and something more intriguing out visible around my neck.

I only put traders on my lanyard. Pins I trade for that I'd like to keep get pinned to a card in my pocket. I get that some people want to wear their keepers like jewelry and show off what they have, but I'd rather not have to say "anything on the lanyard except these over here" when trading with other guests.

The last time I was at WDW, I made a pretty lame lanyard filled with old common HMs and OE starter pins, hoping to trade up. It wasn't very helpful for trading with other guests (nor with Scoop himself!) when I came across them. This January, I plan on putting together a really impressive lanyard of traders, especially when I visit the MK
