Who says trading is dead/dying....and the power of just asking....

So I recall some earlierposts this year about trading not as active etc....

I think not....

So one of my new years pin resolutions has been to at least answer “no thanks†to all pinpics requests – or at least almost all of them....

I'm doing fairly well on that, but one thing I'm also trying to do is even if not remotely interested in the offered trade, at least looking at what matches we may have (cause at least that person is actively interested in trading!).

So, here's my count from just January:
Pinpics: I've traded for 24 pins with 6 people.
DPF 66 pins with 11 people.

Over 100 new pins for me!
Ok, so wow, just realized the scope of my pin addiction.....good thing I'm among fellow addicts here...

My favorite trade so far arrived yesterday, and was for a signature pin!

Background, I did get tired of getting offers of OE/HM for more rare/low LE pins (most of which were only in my trade list if I found a grail), so I took many of those off my trade list. I figured others do the same, so I sometimes check wants vs. owns (mine and the person I'm trading with) to find “hidden†potential trades.

After agreeing to one trade on pinpics (for yet more Mickey icons) I saw in their owns list a signature pin (one that usually only has 2 or 3 people listed as trading). So I just asked “by the way, do I have anything you would trade for itâ€. Looking at our matches I wasn't expecting anything, but....Lo and behold, all they wanted was a pair of pins I got to be traders on our Christmas trip. So happy dance time!

Even more exciting, the best part is, that while that pin is on my wants list, its someone else's signature pin. So someone is getting Zapped this week! On its way to its new home in tomorrows mail Not posting the pin cause that would spoil the surprise.....

Bruuuuahahahahahahahahahahahahahah.

Oh oh, looks like I have had a hand in creating another zapping maniac :lol: I hope you enjoy that as much as I do!!!

It never hurts to ask. Especially here. I have been doing a ton of trading also!!! Got time now that football season is over.

I've been able to make some in person trades, but outside of the nights and an occasional stroke of good luck I've mostly had to buy and sell to get what I want. Don't know if it's due to high postal cost, or disinterest, but I almost never trade with the states. I would love to trade more! Was out of the trading for a bit, but it seemed like it's always been difficult to get people to trade overseas, or at least more difficult. Or maybe I have bad timing, haha.

it might be easier to trade if you had some wants and trades listed on pinpics. I just checked your wants and it says this:

I know a lot of US traders are complaining about the shipping costs lately, they seem to forget it is expensive for overseas people to send packages also. If you want pins from overseas that is the cost of getting them. I never mind trading overseas. It allows me to get stuff I couldn't other wise.

I just want to suggest that if anyone on here has an account at the Pin Trading Database, maybe put a link to it in your signature or something? I'm still working on a signature for myself. I haven't used Pinpics in a long while but I'd still like to get back to trading again, if possible.

It is always possible. My pinpics is docfish2u and it is pretty up to date.

Great thread!!! :bigthumb: Congratulations on all your trades! I actually made one of my very few trades I have done in the whole time I have been in this hobby (not because I don't want to trade, I just lack decent traders :facepalm: LOL ), and am trying to do some more a.s.a.p. With my limited collection, and lack of traders, I don't have too many opportunities, but always love when something works out! :hsd: Very great news on the siggy pin!!! :wiggle: That is always such a rush!!!

I have had a good 6 or 7 weeks. About 5 or 6 pinpics trades, a trade or two and a couple of pin purchases from DPF. I've decided, if you are going to ignore my trade requests on pinpics, you won't mind if I keep sending them to you.

I noticed people are starting to trade more than a few weeks ago. I've made more trades than sales and I'm quite happy (since one of them was a major grail). I hope I can keep up with that. I haven't traded on PP, though. I get very weird replies there, if I ever get them.

I'm working out some trades as we speak and haven't traded in MONTHS! Fun to be getting back into it.

I enjoyed reading this post as a newcomer to DPF. I am still constantly updating my pinpics (Just1More), and it isn't always reliable. So, it's difficult for me to trade until I get my collection properly catalogued and updated. However, I look forward to trading in the future. I haven't sold any pins either in a long time for the same reason, but hope to get a "focus" for my collection and decide what to keep and what to sell\trade. If I don't soon, we will need to add a room onto the house or something, I guess (?) Or maybe just do a Spring cleaning somewhere to create a better storage area.

My pinpics name is Jessa.

I've made several good trades through PinPics, Facebook, here on DPF, and Pin Trading Data Base. It's easier to buy/sell in some respects, but I enjoy trading more. I think it just takes some extra patience since there is usually some back and forth convo involved. I've only had 1 bad scam experience so far trading online and that was rectified. And I've made some really great international trades!

I have made some really good trades off of pinpics. One just recently for two older Paris lanyard pins, which was exciting.

My problem now is I've run through most of my mid-level traders, so I pretty much just have Hidden Mickey-level traders that I prefer to just trade around in the parks and then high-end traders that I haven't decided what I want to try to trade them for. But I never mind offers.

I'm also trying to hold back a little on trading so that I'll have a nice book of traders for David's trading event in May. ;D

I have a list of zappees to work on this weekend so more packages will be going out next week zapping is fun!

Sadly after my auction ends I have to take a break from trading for a bit due to finances, but I've personally had a lot of success in the past few months, and I'm looking forward to doing more trades in the future! Before I came online, I was never able to trade. :lol: Long live the pins!
