All the Clusters sold out within the first 20 people in the 11am slot. Most were gone within the first 10-15.

This is why I stayed home in the northeast. If I had traveled down, I am sure I would have been right behind Merlin in line. So 9:00 folks were able to get all pins, and 10:00 got most pins, and everyone after that (weren’t there slots all the way to 2:00 or so?) got nothing. Happy for the folks who had the early slots but a bummer for the folks with later slots, which I presume is most people. Certainly doesn’t entice me to join d23 and travel to these things.

Does anyone know if the Alice Windows sold out?

I know they still had some left when the clusters sold out, because people were put off by the price. Absolutely, no room to make a profit on it, he he. But once there was nothing left, I don't know if people in the last groups bought them so they wouldn't leave empty handed.

Here's how they should have handled this, but never will, because MOG... Have 3 time slots: 45 minutes each, first come first served or RSP. Have enough pins for those time slots. Then have everyone who wants to come and stand in line waiting to see if there's extras just wait in a standby line for pins. There was so much awesome merch that not many people were buying, because all the people who took up the slots were looking for pins. Then have the pins in a separate room that flows into the merch store that any D23 member can access. You'll sell more that way and it won't be in line with all the crazy pin people if all you want is an Imagineering t-shirt.

They actually do the separate lines at the Destination D event (in November) and at D23 in Anaheim! :)

What I would have done. It's fine that CM's were given priority, but that needed to be communicated to D23 members when they signed up. "MOG is holding an event for WDW CM's and D23 gold members will have an opportunity to shop remaining merchandise at the end of the event." That way people would know if they got a late slot, it probably wouldn't be worth traveling far for it. If it's a D23 event they needed enough to go around. Maybe that's means not everyone gets a chance at clusters, but they should have been prepared with additional releases that would be used in the event of a sell out. They have a ton of WDW attractions and themes they could have used (maybe something for Toy Story Land - I know they had the two pins, but a fuller set) or something for movie anniversaries like Mulan. If the clusters lasted, then they hold onto them and release them in November or at MOG as a regular release.

But it is Disney, and they will never learn. They've proven again and again they prefer the feeding frenzy, and collectors refuse to punish them for it.

Honestly, I wish they would do RSP more often. They (as a company at least, not WDI specifically) obviously have the system for it established since they use it for some events, and it would be so much less stressful for everyone involved.

I wouldn’t be surprised. Someone from CA I follow on IG flew to FL for this event.

I feel like a good number of people I see around FB that are CA people went to FL with photos of their pins - some keeping, some selling not-at-cost.

Too bad there weren't new pins each day that the prior day didn't have. I can't remember if the MOG shop at D23 Expo last year did that or not. Otherwise, they should go up to LE500, but I know that's not WDI's style, and the exclusivity diminishes.

If they would have just said how many people were in each slot ahead of time, that alone would have done a lot for people's planning.

I don't see any purpose in withholding that information from us...

I know they're not ignorant to the popularity of their pins, but it seems they are ingnorant to how social media has encompassed the community. I overheard a CM telling a manager that everything had been leaked ahead of time and she was just blown away by how it spread like wildfire from Instagram.

They are as relevant as Tomorrowland with their policies: the MOG that never was and always will be. They have a really nice young lady that just started this year, so hopefully she can inject some new ideas into the mix in the coming years.

Maybe they were hoping that people would buy other merchandise as long as they were there.

Did @timeerkat and @pretty Omi see this yet? I don’t even collect Zootopia really, but this one is nice with all the characters on it. I’m waiting for one to show up on eBay. lol

This is me too. I don't have 1 pin from Zootopia, and yet this pin calls to me because it's adorable. I'm waiting for it to show up anywhere for buy/trade too.

I did, thanks!

Regarding the Pixar Blu-ray pins from Walmart - I got the last copy of Inside Out at the one I went to. The pin is tiny! I thought they would basically be the AMC pin on a different backer card but it’s small enough to count as a whole other pin. Quarter used for size reference:

FYI - Yes, CA D23 members (non CMs) do have to fly to FL, if they want to buy WDI pins at MoG. In the early years of D23, there were 3-4 D23 Saturday Shopping Days at MoG annually. But, now, the D23 shopping is limited to the two popup stores at the Contemporary Resort (usually spring and fall)
