Calling DLP collectors and traders.
Trying to understand equivalency trades for some DLP pins. Here’s what I’m thinking after doing some research and would love your thoughts and perspective.

For the sake of today’s exercise I’ve included the April DLP Pin Flyer

5f99b9dd8abfafeecdb77daf0236b635.jpg

1 - OE Pins : I am assuming RAK is RAK is RAK so easily traded for DLR RAK pins?

2 - LEs like Pinocchio and Aladdin with an LE of 700: is this like the equivalent of like a DLR LE pin? Like a console pin or a crest of kingdom pin? The LE is not even close though, or is this like a DSSH PTD pin?

3 - LEs like Lumiere and Cinderella with an LE of 250: is this like a DSSH PTD pin? Or like a DSSH color block pin?

4 - Eleonore Bridge Pins: I am assuming these are like the DSSH wedding.

Thanks for your perspective. I have no WDI experience to reference which is why they aren’t included. Just trying to understand as I’d love to trade for some of these and have no clue what to offer or where to start other than buying them on the secondary market. It’s all French to me [snork].

I am not from Paris, but I will share my perspective. (Since when do I not? hahaha.)

One way to trade for Paris pins... trade for them earlier (closer to release date) rather than later. Some traders value Paris pins higher than DSSH and I am not 100% sure why, but they do. If anyone has a theory on why, please let us know?

I typically offer lower LE pins for the LE 700 pins I want from Paris (300/400/500, PTD or regular releases). I do this to obtain the pins from Paris as quick as possible, since it seems to be harder and harder to gain a Paris pin the farther away from the release date you get. So for me... I want the Paris pin... I bought the DSSH pin at cost... I do not want the DSSH pin (only bought it to trade it), so I will offer it for the Paris pins (even if it is an LE 300 for an LE 700). More about what I have to trade and what I want than a fixed value... and early on I think this is also true for the DLP traders, which might be why trading earlier rather than later seems to make a difference. To stay in this mental state for trading, obtain traders at cost/close to cost and if cost becomes part of the negotiations... remember the pins were purchased at cost/close to cost.

One thing I'd probably add about the DLP LE pins is that for the most part, they're hard to get hold of at release. They aren't on general sale so you can't just go buy them in the stores on release day. We had to jump through the hoops that the electronic app Lineberty create for us:

Two days before release day, a number of virtual tickets are released giving you a specific time to go to the shop to make your purchase where you're allowed to purchase two of each LE pin on release.
One day before the release day, a further amount of tickets are released which they call "last chance" where you may be able to buy a pin if there are any left but it's all done in number order. Then for the most part, no ticket, no pin. It makes it really difficult for anyone not living close to Paris as you can't really plan a trip (other than going for a fun old time of course).

I guess this can make some traders value the Paris LE pins more than any other LE pin potentially.

Personally I was at the Eleonore Bridge release at the weekend and it was chaotic, intimidating and not a pleasant experience at all.

Anyway - hope that adds a little other thought into the discussion :)

Yes thank you, and for this reason I think DSSH is probably most comparable. PTDs are annoying in their surprise release, never know when they will flip and really only easily accessible to people who live above the Ice Cream shop. The other DSSH releases, by lottery, etc are insane. Although the Windows of Magic (I.e. Ariel and what I imagine Sorcrer mickey and Jack Skellington) are equally intimidating; the perfect description.

I guess my question is, offering DSSH pins for DLP pins are probably the most appropriate? Maybe windows of magic? Would LE Pins from DLR be okay to offer? I’m just trying to avoid offending anyone when it’s just I really don’t know.

The thing about offending someone is you never know how they value their pins until you make an offer... Unless you're offering up hidden mickeys or OEs for LE pins.

The Window to Magic could be something they really desire and have been having a hard time getting. I usually just send all my traders I'd be willing to trade for that pin and let them make an offer on it. Unless it's in person and they want my best pin for 4 LR pins... I'll never again talk to those at the front of the shark tank.

I guess the best is to not worry about offending someone - they can always say no and then let you know the kind of pin they'd be interested in trading for. Personally, I'd look at anything around my ISO's in trade for DLP LE pins including LE's from DLR and WDW as it isn't like we can just go out and buy them over here.

Eleonore Bridge's pin releases are ALWAYS kind of chaotique and scary. (Sorry @Stewbaws i didn't had the courage to come but i think you discovered why. I hope you managed to get a set).

The releases that are harder to get these days are the Stitch "Today I feel" pin and "Les étoiles de Disneyland". I don't know how i can compare with US releases but depending on quality and release size, i'll be more or less peaky on DLP pins. I'm not trading enough with US users to compare, most of my traders are chinese. I'd love to trade more with US, you have so much Star Wars pin.

Edit> Sorry for the silly question but, what is a "RAK"?

RAK is OE I believe - pins available on the rack to buy all day, every day :)

RAK are rack pins basically open edition pins.

Sometimes people also use RAK for "Random Act of Kindness", but in this case I agree with @Stewbaws that it means "Rack" or OE pins

Yeah, I've never seen rack pins with that spelling. I wonder if it's someone's cute abbreviation for it, or if they literally didn't know that it was "rack" like "off the rack".

I've only been at the one Paris event, but I found the LE trading a little hard to parse out in the brief time I was there. OE for OE trading was easy (and a lot of fun, to boot). But I had a hard time figuring out the LE stuff, except that everyone wanted WDI pins. I found I was surprised by some of the stuff that was passed up in my book, just in that I had thought it would go over well. I had a whole book that I barely traded out of because it was mid-range stuff, and the Paris crew seemed to want nicer stuff than I brought for their LEs.

I was sort of in a unique position, regarding LE trading, in that there was nothing I wanted from Paris that was worth bringing my big guns (except the Tinker Bell PTN Jumbo), so I brought the mid-range stuff, thinking I would trade for the LE 700 level stuff and at least get some traders. But my bag barely got a look (which had everything from recent WDW releases to some Disney Shopping 250/500s).

So, yeah. I don't know if I just got really unlucky, and they didn't need what I brought, or I just missed the mark on alluring pins completely. Of course, time was also limited. If I had more time, I probably would have traded out of it a little more.

That said, everyone was nice, and I did make SOME trades. It was just the OEs definitely flowed so much easier.

Thanks a lot for you explaination everyone.

From my "very new to serious trading" point of view, i had the feel that french pintrader are very envious from american pintrading and how those pin can easily take higher value (the Eleonore Bridge pin sets are the only pin i own that get this treatment). Cast Member also told that the "les étoiles de Disneyland Paris" was clearly made to appeal american traders with the "no dangle and no words, just characters" rule. They are trying to make pin that will allow us to trade easily with US. But in the end, they sure look like typical french OE with very small limited quantity and everyone was disapointed. I really think they should have made these pin bigger and more detailed.

I had hard time understanding that my LE 700 should be traded with american LE2000+ . Because those size in France are not limited at all. But in the end, this is the kind of trade that make me get the pin i want more. I almost abandonned any chance to trade WDI/DSSH pin and sometime, i just buy some or look at them at event without even trying to ask for trade (maybe i shouldn't).

Interesting take!

Yeah, I noticed that there aren't really that many LE 1000 and higher in Paris, which probably makes trading those sizes awkward (especially since retail price on new releases is getting ridiculous over here). I don't know that you should automatically take that trade (700/2,000), but it's always good to consider it.

And definitely never give up hope! Some people hold on to their WDI tightly (either because the monetary value or potential for getting a grail for themselves later), but some people trade them a lot easier. You'll never know until you ask! :)

But man, the French OEs...they're so nice! They just seem bigger and better than most of our OE pins. I brought back as many as my little pieces of luggage could allow (which wasn't many- I flew Norwegian).
