Pin Pics down

I did manage to save all 132 pages of my collection to PDF. And with much waiting/refreshing/forcing images to load, get the other style of print (small pics + number) to load most of the way to print off 66 double sided pages. There are about a dozen pics that didn't load, but out of over 13,000 pics that is pretty good.

The next time it comes up, I'm going to try to clean up my "hopemaxall" account and save wants from those, because that's going to end up functioning as the primary source of what I'm looking for if the site fails completely, since PinTradingDB doesn't have a lot of the older stuff, yet.

I'm also unable to log in, username and password invalid.

For those who want to print their entire collections to PDF, you can arbitrarily change how many pins appear per page. If you select one of the existing "pins per page" options, the page will reload, and you'll notice somewhere in the address bar there is a part of the URL that will list the number you chose for pins-per-page. For example:

pinpage=100

Just change that number to 1000, or 5000, or whatever, leaving all the rest of the URL unchanged:

pinpage=5000

then press enter to go to that updated URL.

Now we're back to 数据库连接失败! (Translation "Database connection failed!) o_O
I didn't understand this reference before... I have been having issues w Pinpics off and on also. Today is the first time for the following to be the only thing coming up on the site:

数据库选择失败!

So finally understanding the prior post. This literally is the Chinese character message: "Database selection failed!". I am only a little slow. :D

I’m wishing Disney had stuck with archiving their original Disney Pin Trading website; before it went under I recall being able to go back and read tons of old blog posts and pdf’s from the Pin Events of yesteryear. The official site also had a lot of info of older pins that’s just going to disappear if/when pinpics eventually goes dark...

I have asked at fairly high levels and they don't seem to have any interest in bringing it back. My guess is they don't want to dedicate the resources ($$$). It's been gone over 7 years now.

Yeah, if anyone didn't know the Pinpics owner has associations with China for his main business. US website devs for a database site are expensive, so he hired them in China. I don't think the website got specifically hacked. We knew the database was old and failing and this is the evidence. Maybe a general hack started it, or it's just the database. Before they said they were limiting the number of pins added, focusing on newer ones because it was approaching its maximum allowed size. Now we wait to find out if they can cobble the pieces back together, if the new website they periodically talk about ever comes on line or if it just disappears.

The question would be if someone recently scraped the files and has those somewhere. When Old Pinpics became New Pinpics, now many years ago, my Dad did it, but that was like 40,000 pins ago. And we never tried to do it with the newer setup.

maybe the guy who started his own database and got sued has it?

Want a laugh, from October 2019 on the PinPIcs Forum (from the Owner of PinPics):

Hello my pin friends,

Just wanted to drop in and address the rumors swirling around the pin community regarding any pending sale of pinpics.

I am NOT selling the website. A few people have reached out to me over the past few months but no offers were made or even proposed. I’m always open to discussion if it’s in the best interests of the community, but to this date nothing to even consider.

We are hard at work to release the new version soon. We have been at this point many a time just to find even better technology and platforms, but I promise this is it. We have put the blinders on and will go with what we have now. It’s pretty spectacular.

Thank you all for your patience and understanding, and thank you to the Amazing PinPics mods and team.

Lenny

It's frustrating for me in particular since I was a member of the original PinPics forum for a long time, and they brought me on to help beta test the new site. After seeing what they had built, I told them my recommendation was to abandon it and put time/money into improving the user-experience of the old site. I even offered to volunteer my own time. They didn't want to hear it. :(
