2021 Pin Discussion

The two pins for Asia confuse me so much..... If one is China and the other is Japan, whoever designed these has some research to do.

It's kind of like they had a bucket of Generic Japanese Things and a bucket of Generic Chinese Things, then dumped the two buckets out, mixed the contents together, and picked items out of the pile at random for each pin.

It's like the controversy with the New Era MLB hats. A quick Google search is not a substitute for actual research and care.

Okay, I'm going to ask. As someone who is Japanese, I know that the torii gate is for Japan and the panda probably should not belong (see paragraph below), but I am not familiar enough with Chinese heritage to see what's wrong with the other pin (if it is indeed supposed to be China).

In Uyeno (Ueno) there is a big zoo and the big attraction was the pandas. Big stretch for Disney to put them on what could be considered a Japanese themed pin, but I throw that in there because of the Hard Rock pins I've collected, there are a LOT of panda pins from there.

Found these on eBay, listed as a brand new Paris pins. I've never seen them before. Is it a new release, does anyone know?
Really hoping the US does some fun BATB stuff this year.

Wardrobe and Cogsworth/Lumiere together were released December 2019. The other 3 were released February 2017. They’re really nice sized pins.

I agree; really looking forward to seeing what they do for the 30th Anniversary!!!

Torii (the red gate) is traditionally Japanese (although the one on the pin has one too many cross beams); it's usually at the entrance to a Shinto shrine, an indigenous religion. There are similar gates in China (paifang), but those are definitely different; they have tiled rooves and such. Both girls are wearing kimono-like garments, but in China, I believe in addition to the tunic, they also wore pantaloons. Both Japan and China have pagodas, but in Japan, the roof normally does not flip upwards at the corners. Both Japan and China have bamboo, but only China is known for pandas. The only pandas in Japan are the ones on loan from China. Both Japan and China have red lanterns, but only the ones in China normally have the tassels on the bottom. Obviously the wall is the Great Wall of China. Both the fan and the parasol can be found in both Japan and China as well.

Soooooo confused.....

I havent bought any of the big Loungefly pins yet but I really really want those. They are the only Loungefly pins that sells here from what I know. I have never seen any of the mysteryboxes here.
