I will be making a trip to California next week and we plan to go to Downtown Disney, but not to any of the parks. Is it worthwhile to bring any hidden Mickey traders? Is there any pin trading in the Downtown Disney area? Also, if you had lunch reservations at Naples, Tortilla Joes, or Ballast Brewing, which one would you go to?

There is trading in DTD. Boards in world of Disney, pin traders, hotel front desks and hotel gift shops. The board at world of Disney disappears as they get busy in the evenings, so go early.

No opinion on the restaurants... Hopefully someone else can weigh in.

As far as restaurants go, I prefer Naples over the others but I tend to prefer Italian over Mexican or brewhouses since there is usually much more for me to eat there (vegetarian, can't eat spicy food, hate beer, and carbs are my best friend). I think it would largely depend on which type of cuisine you/the rest of your party prefer.

All so different. I love Ballast Point, and I love their Sculpin IPAs (especially grapefruit) and their beer cheese. I don’t eat enough beer cheese. Good elevated bar food. Ahh Naples…so much pizza and some pasta. Nachos, burritos, etc. at Tortilla Jo’s - standard fare. And all serve alcohol! I’m not helping other than making me hungry. Like @timeerkat said, depends on what you’re craving, or rather, what you can get a reso for. Although how I listed is the order I normally pick, meaning I go to Ballast Point more often than Naples, and the least to Tortilla Jo’s.

For long meals with no hurry, I also enjoy Catal and sitting on the balcony and having a nice view of mid DTD with people watching. I sorely miss Steakhouse 55.

Did people start gathering again at the picnic tables for pin trading?

Yes, I'd say for at least a month I've seen posts on FB about people going to the picnic tables to trade on Sundays. Not sure how busy it is since I still haven't been back to Disney since the pandemic started, but there should be at least a handful of people there.

Have fun!

Yes bring a little pouch of traders for boards!
IDK about guest-to-guest trading, I don't see people in downtown disney trading that often lately I think though I don't go that often. None when I went last week.

Ballast Brewing had a really long line last time so i assume it's good! LOL.

There also something fun we enjoyed going on for halloween

It costs $10 and you can do a fun little scavenger hunt of hidden pumpkins. Hint.. look UP! :)

Habanero Sculpin or bust. Although I haven't had one in ages, haha. The memory lingers.

I got a reservation for Naples through Disney and my sister got a reservation for Ballast through Open Table. I didn’t even see Ballast on the Disney site. Kind of leaning towards Ballast, we asked for a table outside. Have a few more days to cancel.

I have not gone myself, but I hear it's a hit or miss when it comes to how many people show up. It seems like only some regulars who went pre-COVID show up. Before it was easier to make it a day trip where you got to the tables for pins and then go to the parks afterward. Now with the limited reservation system, this is trickier. Me personally, I have not gone because I've been going to the offsite events and my trades there are much better. And I don't have to haul all my traders through security, which is itself an enormous task.

OMG. Those are sooo cute!!!

Ooh, happy to hear Sunday trading is happening again!

For food, I'd vote:

Naples for a splurge - delicious but expensive
Black Tap for mid-price range - and a CrazyShake is a must if you like sweets!
Earl's for quick but yummy and affordable takeout

I've def heard about grail traders going on Sunday to the tables. But it's not for low end pins. And the lockers are close by if needed. Also, at that end of the DTD near the DLR entrance is the Backlot Premier Shop so hit that too.
