Can someone explain to me why pins come from so many different places please? I guess I understand why the different parks have some pins unique to them, but why are other companies making Disney pins? Are loungefly or palm pins available in the parks or are they totally separate? I think I saw a post where someone got some pins at Hot Topic too. With all the talk of scrappers and these other places making pins, I'm afraid to buy anything that isn't from inside the park! I'm just so confused. What is an official Disney pin?
 
Because Disney is a for profit company and wants to make lots of money. :)

Those are all licensed official Disney pins. Basically any legitimate business selling them will be official.
 
Yes, agree. Pink a la mode, Boxlunch, Artland, Kraken, DisneyPinsBlog, HotTopic Figpins all sell legit pins (these are just a few random sources). Many have a secondary relationship (do not understand it any further than calling it a relationship) in order to use a Disney License to create most of their pins (Uncas, Loungefly, Monogram, Salesone, Bioworld, etc).

I have seen Figpins and Funko POP! (owned by Loungefly) branded pins for sales in the parks, so there is a bit of crossover from licensed pins into Disney properties.

Actually, I think Funko owns Loungefly.
 
Go through the Toy aisles in Target, you’ll notice Princess dolls made by Mattel, LEGO Princess sets, Hot Wheels Cars, etc. All that stuff are possible because of licensing agreements between Disney and the toy manufacturer. Same for pins.

In the Guide section, I have written guides about many of the Licensed pin manufacturers and the different retailers where you may find them.
 
If you buy them from the source, if it’s licensed they won’t be a counterfeit/scrapper. Sometimes the quality control is poor which is sad. If you look at Hopes post has photos of the backs so you can see the back stamp. It takes awhile to get everything straight but it’s good to ask questions because lots of people here have a lot of experience with pins.
