February 23, 2012

Beginning Monday, February 27, 2012, until further notice, Come Out and Trade which takes place in Frontierland in Disneyland park will be on hiatus. During this time we invite you to continue trading with Cast Members wearing lanyards, as well as participating in other trading experiences throughout the Resort.

What the heck? I've only traded there a few times, when I'm out to visit. Where am I supposed to go now? Lanyard trading and book trading are very different experiences for me. I understand why they did it maybe -- a few bad apples can ruin the experience for all -- but I'm sad anyway! Where else do people trade around the parks?

what about little green men? IF this is true we need to designate our own area for trading bc that is ridiculous. That is the ONLY reason I renewed my annual pass and upgraded to premium!!! I want my money back otherwise!!

Come out and trade is where the cast members bring books out to trade... I am thinking we will still be able to trade from the barrels, the cast member just wont be bringing out books of pins to trade from.

Have you all seen the trading boards around DCA? Ask CM's where they are. They have a bunch at random merchandise carts now. Also, remember to always go hit the hotels.

Pretty sure it's just the cast member trading books that are going away for awhile and not the pin trading barrels. In some ways, it is sad and one hopes that the cast member trading books make a return. In other ways, I won't be tempted to trade for a high probability of receiving fake pins anymore. Not to say that I had pretty much given up on the cast member trading books anyway. Nearly all my fakes have come from those books.

oh phew! Yeah they are probably talking about the books. Those books haven't gotten really bad. I don't blame them for taking them away. They are just all scrappers from the get go. Waste of hours of cast member time.

I was about to go burn down disneyland if they were taking away the barrels...

That sucks, but it totally makes sense. I'm glad that someone started this thread maybe I can learn new places to trade! So...where are they senior traders? :)

The few times I have bothered to look at the books, they were nothing but fake pins. Personally, I am glad that Disney is stopping it for the time being. Hopefully when it returns, they will have less fakes in there and not be passing off as many fake pins to their guests.

They came out and said this on Tuesday when I was in the park, but a Cast Member still came out and traded. He was 20 minutes late, but was still there until 3:30. The tables aren't going anywhere.

From what I hear, it's because of the "regulars" coming and getting in line really early, not letting anyone else get a chance at the pins, and trading crap into the books. That's why the break.

When they return, we can look forward to no hidden mickeys, limiteds or artist proofs in the books anymore just to curb the same problem from coming back again.

Long story short, you can thank the regular sharks that ruin it for everyone else.

There are lots and lots of tourist traders walking around with bags of fakes and scrappers too. I would not blame it all on the regular sharks. I can't tell you how many times I have been offered fakes and scrappers from tourist and newbie traders who don't realize their pins are not authentic.

There is a scary thought.... scrappers walking around.... :anxious:
Yikes! I hope they aren't jumping onto traders' lanyards all on their own now! (Sometimes food--or formerly food--walks out of the back of my fridge if I leave it there too long, so that's why I'm concerned about the scrappers walking too.)

Well... finding them is have the fun. But I can give you a few good suggestions based on my last visit to the park.

The Main street store has a board at the counter near their main enterance. Little Green Men occasionally has items "hidden" behind their counter. Star Traders has a board - typically in the store corner.

If you can catch them when setting up crowd control for the parades, cast members tend to have lanyards. Especially their supervisors, a good rule of thumb is to always try and trade with "da boss" if you see them.

Over at DCA during the grand detour, all of the staff doing "traffic control" had lanyards and pin pads. Staff inside of the Anamation pavalion was also a good area. Over by the Bear Mt water ride, they typically had 2-3 people doing trading (hint: Disney Vacations booth). The rangers at the former Brother Bear / now UP challange course usually have a lanyard or two right at the enterance and one inside the challenge course.

Paradise pier/Bugs Life - death valley for pin trading in DCA. Aladdin Theatre and Tower of Terror are hit/miss - depends on staff working there but you can usually find pins.

Hopefully with the arrival of Radiator Springs, there will be new opportunities opening up.

Advice on checking Hotel gift shops is also on target.

Happy hunting....

Ok so heres what i got yesterday the tables will stay and everyone can come trade as normal just only the cast members with the books will no longer be coming out from the 1 to 3 times there going to pin boards for the time being but disney has plans in the works for something new with pin trading to make the experience funnier. the cast remember i talked to is a huge pin guy.. and he was kinda saying theres going to be hidden places where theres going to be huge lots of pins on pin board cast members and books

I personally didn't like the books as it took way too long as each guest had to flip through the whole book. Pin boards are much faster and you can be figuring out while standing in line which pins you want to trade for.

This sounds promising, let's hope they come up with something good!
