I won this beautiful pin set on the auction site last night and has since been given a full refund and this as the reason:

"sorry the box got broken when we moved and some of the pins were scratched."

Should I just post a positive (seeing as I got my money back) or should they be penalized for not canceling the auction when they found out that the box was broken. The pictures that they used were the pictures that they toook. Any recommendations?
 
I would leave positive..you got your refund back...and they told you what was wrong...
its better than not telling you at all,and recieved it that way!
 
I'm a little confused. Is this for eBay or for the Trade Auction site here? I thought it was the Trade Auction site here, but since you said it was refunded (as in $), it couldn't be...

It's possible they used old pictures and just noticed the box was damaged when they were getting it ready to ship. And if it is eBay, which "negatives" would you leave? Speed of shipping and shipping costs wouldn't make much sense, and they did communicate with you. I guess the accuracy of description could be marked down.

I don't know, I'm kind of ambivalent about this. I would probably leave no feedback, since it wasn't a positive experience, but probably doesn't warrant a negative feedback.
 
I wouldn't leave any feedback.. positive or negative.. I can see arguments for both but since the deal was voided.. so should the feedback.
 
Was the pin sold at a price too low that the seller took a loss? Then the refunded due to they can sell it at a different time for a higher starting bid or BIN? Neutral feedback and state in the feedback. "won auction at a low price then refunded stating box damaged and scratches". This way if someone actually reads feedback, they may see a pattern?

Or have them send you the actual picture of the damaged items or if they don't, report them to eBay if that's where you bought it. If on this forum, I would still ask for an actual picture and if they can't provide one - negative feedback.

I agree with Master. If it was the bay, leave neutral stating what happened. This way if a pattern develops, you can complain and help others
 
I 'm also gonna agree with Master. I'm thinking they might have realized they were selling the pin too low and found a clever way to opt out of the bid if it was the bay.
 
I agree, no feedback. No transaction was completed.

Its a bummer but at least they were honest and didn't try mailing it out and then blame the post office for the damage!

As a buyer I check a sellers feedback before I bid. I consider Neutral feedback to be almost as bad as Negative. IMO since you were refunded your money so quickly, and the buyer did communicate with you, and you have no proof of any wrong doing or lies, I would just forget the whole thing and not leave any feedback. IMO

I would do this, and if it were relisted, then I'd leave a neutral or neg saying what happened. You have a couple of months to leave feedback. If it really was damaged they wouldn't relist.
 
Don't leave any feedback for now. Since the seller refunded your money without cancelling the transaction, they're going to be losing money on the final value fee for the item and shipping (they won't get refunded unless the transaction is canceled). It seems that if they were really the type of seller that was overly concerned with selling their pin too low, they would also be concerned with getting their final value fee back. Give them the benefit of the doubt for now, but check in a week to see if the item's been relisted. Then you can leave your neutral feedback.
 
no feedback at all. the deal was basically canceled. you got your refund, they gave a good reason. Chances are the picutres were old or not from the set even though they said it was. Let it go and find a new pin set. :)
 
I would absolutely leave no feedback until you see if it's relisted. After a while, if not relisted, I would leave a positive but would not leave a neutral. As someone that sells on ebay a lot, a neutral can really hurt you and affect your listing fees. Let's hope it's an honest mistake that could happen to any of us.
 
I would be suspicious of a last minute cancellation of a sale and let me tell you why. I also collect a few other things including stamps and a few years ago I had won an auction for a fairly valuable stamp and I got it at a great price. The seller did the same thing to me that appears to have happened to you. I was familiar with the seller as a guy that also sold at stamp shows and had met him at one. Coincidentally, a friend of mine told me that the same stamp I had "won" was sold by this dealer out from under me when he received an offer after the auction was over for a better price. I went back and left a negative and have not done business with the person since, JOHN

I'd ask for updated pictures showing the condition because if the scratches are minor I might still want it. If they can't produce them then something is up. If they do and you don't think the damage is bad you could tell them you still want it and if they say no, then again, something is up.

Positive feedback should never be left if the transaction wasn't completed. When it is all said and done, you may not want to leave negative or neutral, but you shouldn't leave positive because no transaction occurred. In that case I'd leave none.
