Hello DPF world,
I was browsing that famous auction site this morning(I think you all know which one I'm talking about. Starts with an E, ends in Y). Anyway. Saw that a seller I have bought from before has a Wall-E Marquee up for auction. Not a Buy it now. No it has already gotten pretty high. But from what I've seen this is like the mother of all grails amongst the Marquee family. I don't collect Marquee's(Thank god too cause if did, I think i would get divorced. I'm already walking on egg shells trying to get my PODMS). I'm rambling again, sorry. Anyway, wanted to give everyone that is looking for this pin the heads up as a courtesy to the DPF community. Have a nice day.:)

Hahaha, my husband was the same way... "You spent WHAT on a pin?" was heard...somewhat frequently...Luckily, we are pretty much out of debt (save for a car payment and rent) so he's become a bit more understanding since pin collecting is my passion and really the only thing that I collect. Thankfully, I don't collect the marquee pins either but hey! To anyone questioning spending the dough on the Wall-E one, just tell yourself "At least it's not as bad as the Tangled one"

Correction: Well...one listing is almost as bad as the Tangled marquee. The one mickeyfreak mentioned isn't quite as bad as the Tangled Marquee that sold for $300.00 ... yet... :eek2:

Exactly Aquata...............Yet is the word. I'm watching this one just to see how high it gets and what it goes for.

Me too! I've never spent $200.00 on a pin yet but I've come darn close. For that particular pin, anything under $250.00 isn't too terrible in my opinion if it's one that a person has been seriously wanting/is their grail pin and let's be honest, thats Wall-e marquee is tough to find. Any higher than $250.00 though and ... yowzers! I will never say "A pin is not worth that amount" because everyone is different in how they value pins and I respect that but HOLY SHNIKEYS! $300.00 would certainly be a lot of money for a pin. This will be interesting :)

I have spent over $200.00 on the Phineas & Ferb 3 Pin set on the popular auction site, but I ended up getting my refund due to the seller never responding and having his account closed. Luckily, I found that same set later for much, much less. Was probably one of the best presents I could give my wife.

Talk about lucking out. Good thing you got your refund and was able to find it cheaper. Unless it is something I know for a fact I'm going to have a hard time finding for my collections, I can't justify spending more than $75 on any pin. I would never be able to explain that to my wife. Man I second job just to pay pins. :(

So the auction just ended on this pin. No way was I bidding on it. But a last second bid made it go for $342.81!!!!! So..............was it somebody on here that go it?

The Wall-E Marquee is definitely a hard "grail like" marquee for true marquee collectors..but the "Mother of ALL Grails" for any marquee collector is the UP Marquee. :) Thank goodness we were able to acquire almost all of the harder marquees. This is how we would break down the Grail list for marquees lol

1. UP Marquee
2. Wall-E/ Tangled
3. Enchanted
4. Meet the Robinsons
5. Ratatouille

We have all of em except Ratatouille!

I saw the Ratatouille Marquee for $25 at the Dayton Disneyana show in JUne and thought it would be a good one to buy... That was a mistake. And Meet the Robinsons for $50:sigh:

300? a tangled marquee once sold for close to 500 according to ebays completed sales list. lol

All of these marquee's are inflated based on the price of one single Up marquee sale in April. Then a new batch of marquee collectors came along in just the last 6-9 months and are paying very high prices. I've seen at least 10 tangled marquee's on here and eBay in the last 5 months. Probably 6 or 7 Wall-E's. These pins aren't as rare as the prices they are pulling in. Now, the UP marquee, which actually deserves the kind of money people are asking, I've only seen 2 or 3. Honestly looking at Trades/Wants the Enchanted Marquee should be #2. I am very surprised at the number of people willing to shell out $300-$500 for Wall-E and Tangled. Tangled was selling all day for $150-$165 in March/April. Wall-E I think was #2, but since all of them are coming out of the woodwork thanks to high prices it's demoted to #3. Enchanted was a sleeper grail but with 0 trading the 2 or 3 I've seen for sale have increased dramatically in price, the last one went for $308.

I got both Meet the Robinsons and Ratatouille for $15 in February this year. I think a few factors are driving these crazy prices. 1. The UP marquee that legitametly should be $400 that sold in April, it's value is attributed to other marquee's. The UP marquee should cost that much because of the few that are actually in the trading community. I REALLY wish pinpics had an "Owns" number for that pin. The Tangled and Wall-E, etc. were on the racks for days and traders that knew then bought multiples. They are not as hard to find because of the number in the trading community. Now they are going up because of the sheer number of people wanting them. 2. (And probably most accurate!) A new breed of DSF buyers/traders/sellers that flip every DSF release for profit and then have money to waste on pins. $400 to them is just selling their 2 sets of NBC books this month. So they pay $115 for 2 sets of hinged NBC books and get a Tangled or Walle marquee out of it. The sale price may be $400 but it cost them $115 start to finish.
#2 sucks for everyone that isn't close to DSF/DLR and can't just buy and flip pins all the time. And these resellers/buyers are just jacking up the prices for everyone else. I will remain patient, if I never get my final marquee's I'll be fine. There is no reason Little Mermaid (white background), Tron, etc should be selling for over $100. (Tinker bell rescue @ $80? WTF?) We're in the time of "I want" and I don't see it stopping until either these people finally get all the marquee's they want or they run out of money. With the steady flow of DSF pins for them to flip it's gonna be the first option. Although I see them get multiples of these HTF marquee's just to brag about it. Everyone else just be patient. You'll find your marquee's in the long run, or their attention will finally be on something else. PODM pins sort of took some attention away but the resellers just use those for profit now too. Hence their explosion recently.

Mark's List:

1. UP
2. Enchanted
3. Wall-E
4. Tangled
5. Cars
6. Dumbo

LOL, having an OWNS option on Pinpics would be one of the worst ideas EVER. It just opens the door for people to incessantly message someone who owns ANY vhtf pin to see if that person would "Please trade!!" or "please sell it to me!" . Its just a can of worms not worth opening!

As far as the prices of these marquees, Sure tangle was selling 150-165 in March/April...thats exaclty the point.."March/April" its September now..the craze for Tangled has increased and that Marquee is everyone's grail! Its just a case of supply and demand.

As far as the new breed of buyers/traders/sellers...how can u blame them? I mean..in all honesty..it actually smart if you think about it.

I don't want pinpics to list the users that say they own it, just list how many accounts have listed as owns. The new pinpics will allow you to enter a quantity of owns & trades. That said, I know it will never be 100% accurate since some people have 2 or 3 accounts and they have old accounts that dont' get updated. There are also too many dishonest deceitful people that would create fake accounts (or in the new website enter higher quantity) just to show that a pin is "owned" by more people so it appears more valuable. There's always some cracker jack that thinks they can squeeze a few more dollars or trade value out of a pin by doing things like that.

The Tangled craze was in full effect in March/April. The price jumped after the 2 or 3 Up marquee's sold for over $400. IMO, Tangled has come down, even though many don't want to admit it. The DLP PTN pin has sold for under $70, people think it's still worth $150? The PODM have come down to under $60. People have moved on to Brave and even that is coming down. My guess is next will be Wreck-it-Ralph.

As for the resellers, they are milking money from other traders with super high DSF prices. They hype DSF events to ensure a sell out and then flip for lots of profit. They are over inflating prices of pins they want by dumping their DSF profit into these marquees. It's practically racketeering and money laundering, in pin terms. The only people I see happy about the price hike of marquee's are people that trade for marquee's and then flip them for these crazy values and are just riding the wave but making it even worse. Those people make it near impossible to trade for any marquee right now. Even marquee for marquee people won't even do anymore. Their Shaggy Dog marquee might just be the next $100 marquee??
It is also interesting to me how quiet the last two releases were at DSF when two major groups of pin cliques didnt' show up. The back to school and the Tinker bell releases were not hugely hyped here and they weren't big to-do events. I'm happy for that, and there's a reason the Tinker Bell marquee was still there days after and is selling for under $25.

I constantly see people writing "that auction site" or some variation of the phrase? Why don't people just use Ebay. There really is only Ebay and everyone on this site has browsed the site, if not sold or purchased something on it.

+1. We had this discussion when we met at DSF that seems such a long time ago. I don't know of too many people that can poor money into each release and can stay in this hobby? Prior sale threads and others state that it takes Ca$h and no one has free traders in their trader tree in the backyard. You can either buy a pin and have it gain value and either upgrade in a trade or sell to buy other pins.

The only problem I have in a "Grail" selling above $200 is the LE size. An LE 300, at any time 150 people can decide to sell their pin and their is still plenty out there to give up. This is why pins keep popping up for sale at top amounts. An LE 150 or lower is harder, usually it's a limit of 1 per person so they usually go into core collections, mush like the UP Marquee has. Less than 10 UP Marquees have been on eBay and 5 of them most recently (1 this past week-CatBurger :-) ). How many "real" Gomes do you see? How many DA 100's do you see? Being older pins, some lower LE's are clearing collections and being more collector specific but still hard to find or buy.

Supply & Demand. It's the name of the game. See you at the next HOT release and eBay listing with its individual rant thread following it.
