DLR Wristband Guidelines questions

Hello,

I was just wondering how things have worked out for those of you who have bought the more recent PODM pins at DLR. Does Disney really enforce the guideline asking Guests not to line up before 6AM? I'm planning on going for the BATB release (since I'll already be there on vacation anyway), and was wondering how I should go about planning out the morning. I noticed that Guests will be asked to choose a location to purchase their pins when they receive the wristband. So then does this mean that getting a wristband will guarantee you a pin (as long as you get there before 1PM)?

Also, was the Mickey and Friends Parking Structure or Toy Story lot open when you went to line up at 6AM? Or did you have to park in Downtown Disney? I know it would be more convenient to park in DTD since the queue will be forming behind Rainforest Cafe, but if regular lots are open I'd just assume go ahead and park there since me and my family will be spending the entire day in the parks.

I know some people here are expecting absolute chaos with the BATB pin, but I'm going to go for it anyway!

Thanks a lot for your help!

DLR does a bad job at enforcing the 6 AM rule, sometimes people line up the night before for these releases but that is the minority, usually under 50 people. A good portion of PODM collectors show up a bit before 6 AM. Wristbands guarantee you a PODM as long as you go to the line when they release them. I am going to assume that all PODM's at DLR will be gone by 1PM that day to the fact that it will be one of the hottest PODM releases. As with parking DTD parking is available if you are looking at getting there at or before 6 AM.

Yea, assuming it's just like Vinylmation releases. The parking structures are not open, but the DTD parking lots will be. They usually have security hanging out in the front of the line. Even before 6 AM.

The last few PODM releases a few people have shown up night before and set up chairs behind rainforest cafe. I dont know how many, I dont really understand their reasoning. The last couple releases were not "over night campout" required.... In fact pins were left at 1pm for the mulan PODM, which I expected to run out of wristbands.

I think it is safe to say that while disney wont enforce the "no line up" rule in the truest sense of the word, they will at least monitor it and try to prevent hundreds. lol

This BatB release will sell out, the WB's will all be given out, But somehow I doubt that arriving at 6am will mean you are to late. It might however mean some of the best frames are already taken.

It's all random, some people we've talked to about previous PoDM releases (year1/2) have gotten THE scene showing up after 1PM. Like pin trading, it's all timing and luck. Just show up and hope for the best but be happy that you're getting such a nice pin. We're excited to just OWN one. It looks so beautiful.

It's probably because the cast members bring out so many frames (5, right) and you, the buyer, have to pick out of those 5 or go back in line?

This will be a unique release in that DLR buyers will get to see the scenes from WDW before they go. They may have a scene in mind that they want and that scene will get taken when it is put out. However, the order of the bags they pull with different scenes is random, so someone that goes right before 1pm might have a better chance at a scene that was thought to have been all taken early on. Just depends. I'm excited to see the scenes, wonder what is gonna be the "it" scene. Or if we'll even be able to tell yet. I think the DLR sharks are the ones that post crazy high prices on eBay first, even though our release is 3 hours after WDW, they seem to be from Cali sellers.

I'll add an edit so Psyco will calm down. I'm referring to pre-wristband PODM releases when the DLR sharks got a bunch of pins and weren't limited like now. Also, with the recent spike in PODM popularity more WDW people are getting in on the money rush. I have first hand experience of the WDW resellers, trust me, they exist too. Yourwdwstore has kind of cornered the market for WDW by taking 20+ people to every release, but they aren't eBay sellers, they have their own website. So there are fewer of the great scenes left over for the rest of the WDW people. DLR, DSF, and WDI so close together make our pond a little bigger than WDW's and in bigger ponds bigger sharks can grow. Just my $.02, you don't have to agree with me.

Yes, they use three different colored wristbands. They ask you which location you want and attach the wristband that is only good at that location. If they are out of wristbands for a location you must choose from the remaining locations if you want one.

It may have used to, but they are not letting the early ones in line look through all the pins, just five, so when you get up to the counter means far less than it used it - in my experience you will have as good a chance of getting a good scene as the front of the line unless you are literally the last few in line.

Ooh nice, okay :) thanks!

Yup that's true. So basically everyone is given a chance to be able to get THE scene with only 5 choices. Just cross your finger and hope that you get the scene you want with the five they give you. AND if you're buying two, you can ONLY choose from those 5...you can't get to see another five to choose your other pin.

PPPPPPPPPPPPTH to that comment! I have seen Super high ((ridiculous)) prices listed WITH PICS at 6.am PST day of PODM releases EVERY time. So a generalized comment like that is just not correct Mark. There are just as many WDW "sharks" and "scalpers" as there are DLR. And now with us being wrist-banded, we DLR folks can't get as many as quickly as WDW people can. Lets not make such exaggerated comments, and keep this thread from turning into an Us VS Them drama thread ok?

I was referring to the previous 20 PODM releases prior to the wristbands. When DLR people could get 10 pins and figure out the "it" scene. Now that we only get 2 and look at only 5, it's harder for DLR sharks to get a variety of scenes. For Tangled they were taking pictures and posting eBay ads while they were in line for W.Ho afte they got pins at DTD, LGM, and Emporium. The first $400 ebay ad for the hair scene was listed while they stood in line at LGM.

Danka. And my pants are still on. LOL. My nickers didn't even get bunched. :)

Anyway,

I prefer Fly N Buy when i go to the PODM wristband releases. I find that fewer people chose it, the line isn't as long and the selection is decent. If you are not blocked for park entry, go for the Fly N Buy in DCA. Everyone will be at LGM because they can then set up outside at tables afterwards to trade, or socialize. I just go to FnB, then go across to LGM to hang out until the 1pm open purchasing.

Thanks for the responses, everyone! All your info really helps. I'm not looking to get anything specific, just to get (hopefully) two pins, so as long as I can get a wristband at all I'll be happy! And thanks for the tip on FnB, Psycho! That's kind of what I was thinking anyway- seems like LGM always gets super crowded.

Since this release is on Friday instead of Thursday, LGM might be the better choice since DCA will have early entry and with Fly N Buy getting fewer pins there is a risk of the better scenes being snatched up by early entry people. I'm still debating where to go since I like the less hectic atmosphere at Fly N Buy, but I think the selection will be better at LGM. Personally, I've found the lines move at about the same speed even though Fly N Buy gets fewer people; LGM is just much more effecient at getting people through the line.

DCA, yeah about early entry. I get to the front of the early entry turnstyle line and in the past, they have done an override on my pass for me because I am very nice and explain that I only want the pins, no rides, and i don't want to bug the early entry folks at all.. Granted, it has only worked 2 of the 3 times.... the other time I was right up front of the regular line for entry so it didn't matter much. I was still only #22 in the line to see the pins.
