I got this pin years ago, and have compared it to what I think to be an original legitimate pin. They seem to be very similar, but on this pin it has a blank where the number /1200 should be. I was just wondering why.

From what I know (im totally not an expert though) is that the number thats missing on your pin should be there. When its missing its not a good sign. This pin most likely didn't come from the authentic mold. I am not aware that this is something that has slipped though quality control checks before but anything is possible.

Congratulations (sort of)!!!! You have a real, honest to goodness scrapper that is truly a factory overrun or quality contol reject! To clarify, this pin is NOT fake. It was made in the real factory at the same time with all of the other identical pins. However, it was rejected by quality control and supposed to have ended up in the trash, thus the missing le number. However, someone stole your pin off the factory floor out of the trash and sold it til it eventually ended up in your hands. Thank you for the picture! I have been trying to explain this to people for years and now (with your permission) have something to show them!

There is a great mixup that you have helped clarify. People refer to "scrappers" all the time when they really mean a fake pin. Pixie has started a thread in pin comparision called "What's the difference? *Terminology*" ; it should be page 1. Give it a read and you will see what I mean.

To anyone reading this thread: this is a real scrapper!!! Learn the difference!!!

I dont think you got a fake, just an error pin. the other number is not embossed on to the pin so thats why its not there, that number 0001 etc is printed on I think.

Ive had pins from paris I bought myself that some on here would say is a sign of a fake, just for example here is my stitch experiment pin from the mark, note the lack of mickey head back and can see the outline but was not indented as others so your pin is fine just no number.

Then how come I got the pin on an original card in the park if it failed the quality control test?

my guess is that Geoff is right in part. It is for sure a true scrapper. But it was not stole or picked up off the ground. It sum how made it into the mix with all the good pins. Thats how u bought it at the park. Over the past year many ppl have done trips to test new pins on the rack. It has been shown that bad pins do make it to the park and new on the card. i know for sure that the brown country bear pins that were out a while ago had bad color. you could find the bad pins on the rack new for sale.

so in the end.. u have a real pin but it was not supost to b sold. Sum how it made it past QA and than to the store. Its kind of neat that you have it though. i wouldnt worry about it much.

I have a Mickey clashing lightsabers with Darth Vader pin that has a spinner that the word Jedi and sith are actually upside down that I bought at DLR and so I have kept the back card for it in case I actually decided to trade it. Does the whole fake/scrapper market that has come up make anyone else feel like it has sucked the fun out of the hobby? Personally I think it sucks that pin traders have to worry more about if a pin is fake rather then the enjoyment pin trading is supposed to be for everyone.

I agree with Geoff, this pin was made with all the rest and was rejected, and somehow you bought it?!?!?!?! I just don't understand how you bought it in the park on a card. I have heard of people buying a pin and switching for something so someone could have bought the real one and put that scrapper one on the card and returned it. People are sneeky and so messed up. The other theory mentioned could be true also, but seems more likely that people are buying a pin and getting the real one to switch it with a scrapper. It makes me ill thinking about how many scrappers and counterfeits are out there. The fake stuff makes collecting depressing. You pine over a pin you want so bad and you finalllyyyyy get it and then you spend time examining it when you get home....and omfg it's a counterfeit!!!! uugghh we've all been there.
