Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

I don't think that is an LE Vanessa, she definitely does not have rooted eye lashes, those ones are the painted version... she looks just like her 12 inch with different outfit. Looks like an OOAK project, but a nicely done one. Also, the box background to the left wouldn't make sense.

I would LOVE a LE Vanessa (as most of us would agree!). But I agree with the previous poster - the eyelashes are painted????? And wouldn't 4 LE dolls for one movie be a little much? (Even though it's certainly and favorite?)

Yeah, if they were gonna release that many LE dolls for one series, the release dates should be more spread out throughout the year, not all at once. Two surprise releases is one thing, but 3 surprise releases+ still having to pay for preordering Ariel is a bit crazy, even for Disney.

Yeah, I can see how this fall is pretty expensive, but I think Disney expects most parents / spouses / friends of collectors are willing to drop more money around the holidays.

I'm just glad I have a credit card, because I want all the LE releases this year, plus the Small World animators dolls and a lot of the Frozen dolls.

As for the pic above, that looks totally fake to me. If it were a few months ago, I could see it being a digital mock-up, but by now we'd be seeing a pic of an actual doll. This is clearly rendered. That chain looks so unnatural and so does the color of her eye shadow. I see that your friend (or whoever) tried to make it look like rooted eyelashes (the way it overlaps part of the veil), but it just looks painted.

I think your friend is just trying to tease you :)

She definitely looks like the Vanessa that came with the Ariel doll collection, and the lack of rooted eyelashes is a dead giveaway. I really don't think she's a LE doll, although it's disappointing. So many people would love to get her!
Now if they'll just start on a LE Pocahontas...

Disney never said they were surprise releases. It is just that in the past the villains have generally been surprise releases in that no information was released about them prior to them coming up on sale. Also there is usually no preorder for these dolls compared to the princesses who not only have announcements on the Disney store website but also the entire stock is released for preorder.

But we know they are being released on Oct 1 as it was confirmed at the Disney Store at the D23 expo.

Hello all! :wiggle:

A friend (who wants to stay anon) sent me this picture, he got it from a friend.

What do you guys think? Is it real or not? I HOPE SO! :anxious: It would fit the LE Eric!

I think it looks photoshopped :/ especially the fall of the veil (drapes too straight - too fine? especially for a doll with a thick head of hair under there ) and the cord holding her necklace looks drawn on. But I could be wrong!

I usually refer to the Disney Wiki website for confirmed information in relation the the diamond edition releases (http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Walt_Disney_Diamond_Editions) and I noticed two things. Sleeping Beauty is now at a TBC status whereas I believe previously it used to say Oct or Fall release. Also they have added Aladdin in 2015 as being the potential fall release?

I was just curious because I have always been confident that Sleeping beauty was going to come out on Bluray next year but has this actually be confirmed? Thing two things we know for sure is that next year Maleficent will be coming out and the year after that the next expo will be on. So we know that the princess that has a bluray release during an expo year will have a lot of merchandise and promotion around her during that time. In this year's case it was Ariel so that was perfect as she is very popular. However now I am unsure as I always though that Aurora was more popular than Jasmine with children especially since she is seen as one of the foundation princesses and is the only one in pink. So it would make more sense that she be the princess that sell and promote during the expo year, also I would imagine that her movie would have been around longer and would have a larger anniversary date compared to Aladdin. But at the same time we have Maleficient coming out next year so it would make sense to have the bluray come out the same year as the movie as they complement one another and would help in promotion.

I guess until we get confirmation for the Oct release next year Disney can still juggle around the releases. This is what happened to Aladdin with the release being moved several times. In this case though I honestly think that Sleeping beauty will still be the 2014 release (which is what I am hoping for) so that the release of the bluray will be promoted by the Maleficient movie and they can make it sleeping beauty's year. Which means we will get an Aurora and hopefully a Maleficient LE next year. I am unsure about Phillip as his production may depend on the popularity of Eric but it would still be cool to have a Philip to compliment Aurora.

So what that will mean for 2015 it will be Jasmine's year which is great as I was worried that they would give up on trying to release Aladdin as a diamond edition in the US. What this will also mean is that we should hopefully see more Aladdin merchandise especially if Disney were to do an Art of Ariel equivalent for Jasmine but while i love Jasmine and think Disney needs to promote her more, I'm still struggling with that one because Jasmine is no where near as popular as Ariel. Still what I am more excited for is that if Aladdin does have an expo year release this will mean we should be getting another male LE doll in the form of Aladdin who by far is one of the more popular princes/male characters.

This is all solely based on my speculation and I have no info to back most of my claims and I know we are still in the DFTC and LE TLM phase but I just can't help but wonder what Disney has in store for us from now until the next expo. Anyway does anyone have any other speculations or claims as I love reading about them as it really is interesting to see how accurate we are compared to the way that Disney thinks LOL

Sorry about the long post again guys!

I kinda thought the same thing. The Eric reveal and the rumor of Aladdin being 2 years from now...and a Jafar classic doll...I was pinning my hopes on a 17" LE Jafar "Surprise Release". ;D

I agree that Jasmine is less popular than Sleeping Beauty and that Aurora would be a much better choice as the princess that should be featured at the next D23 as she is better known. Based on the fact that the Maleficent movie is going to be released next year is most likely the reason that 2014 will in my opinion be the year that they have chosen for releasing Sleeping Beauty as opposed to the year after as there will be a lot of hype surrounding the characters. In addition if you believe stitch kingdom to be a credible source for information regarding Disney news there is an article where they state that Disney will be releasing both the Jungle Book and Sleeping Beauty next year (http://www.stitchkingdom.com/disney-jungle-book-sleeping-beauty-diamond-edition-blurays-2014-64638/). Based on these two things I believe that there is a high likelihood that Aurora will be the princess to look for in 2014 and I hope she will be as she is definitely one of my all time favourite princesses.

I totally forgot about that! Surely now that Disney has done a male doll they will do a male villain too! And who would be better than Jafar! He would be perfect as an LE doll. Now I am really hoping for Aladdin to be released in 2015 as that will mean if Disney does something similar to what they did with TLM this year we should be seeing three LE dolls in the form of Jasmine, Aladdin and Jafar who I believe all have the potential to be absolutely stunning. Fingers crossed that Disney does think about this and strong considers it as they would be amazing LE dolls.

the oriental theme of Aladdin is another contributing factor why they should go for an LE Edition of Jafar, Aladdin and Jasmine. The material they could use could be very very rich and beautiful. The fairytale designer team already has that kind of proven with the materials used for the lovers couple, which is out in 3 weeks. Can you imagine diamonds, the deep red and a golden snake scepter... I should stop dreaming so loud!! ;-)

Oriental? Isn't it Arabian?

Oriental? Isn't it Arabian?

It's Arabian, but they seem to be making Jasmine East Indian inspired lately. Makes me so fricking mad - you can't just swap ethnicity like that Disney, so disrespectful. They would never do that to a white/European princess. Jasmine was my childhood favorite, I wish they kept her true to the movie (if not the original fairy tale - Aladdin was Chinese, not sure if his princess was or not).

Well, "oriental" is a term that can be used to describe basically anywhere in Asia (Middle East, China, Japan, India, Central Asia, etc.) and not just the eastern part of Asia. It's not really a term that is used very much these days, but it originates from the Latin word "oriens" which translates to "east." So yeah, technically it can refer to wherever Agrabah is supposed to be located. :p

I agree that Agrabah has been evolving into something not purely Arabian... no doubt a backlash of the tragedy of 9/11... :( But I kind of always imagined that Agrabah lay somewhere between the Arabian peninsula and India, but perhaps closer to the Arabian peninsula? There was a lot of cultural exchange then as now, so therefore if that were true, it is plausible that there would be infusions of both cultures. But above all, the opening song in the film is called: "Arabian Nights," so Disney really should celebrate the rich Arabic culture more with Jasmine.

Well yes and no, actually she is more designed after a belly dancer attire IMO which is part of both cultures. Also if Disney were to be completely true to the Arabian culture Jasmine would have been fully covered in the movie, not in a two-piece. The actual clothing in Aladdin is more influenced by Indian, Turkish, and even Egyptian attire than it was Arabian. I know they mentioned "Arabian Nights" in the film but that also refers to "One thousand and One Night" which is a collection of Middle-Eastern folklore. So it is possible that Aladdin was not based off of the Arabian culture but perhaps one of the many Middle-Eastern cultures in general. However, we all know that Disney blurs the lines when it comes to other cultures. Look at what they did with Pocahontas, there are so MANY inaccuracies in that movie it is hard to keep count!

Probably TMI, but I got my degree in Anthropology so I find these things fascinating! ;)

I would say Jasmine and Aurora are both moderately popular princesses. Ariel, Rapunzel, Belle and Cindy are no doubt the top sellers. Mulan and Pocahontas would be at the bottom simply because of their lack of exposure compared to the others. Jasmine, Aurora, Snow and Tiana would be somewhere in the middle. The characters popularity is also based on location. Aurora for instance is probably more popular in France where as Jasmine is probably more popular in India. In America their popularity is most likely more scattered and it depends on the persons preference.

Jasmine and Aurora are both similar in that, unlike all the other ladies in the princess line, neither is really the true star of their film. I Sleeping Beauty the 3 good fairies are really the stars (and I'm sure most people would say the real star is Maleficent :p). And Aladdin is of course the star of Aladdin. I've always thought it was interesting how the 3 Walt princesses and the 3 Renaissance princesses kind of mirrored each other.

Snow White and Ariel- Both girls get a lot of criticism and are arguably the 2 most polarizing characters in the franchise. With Snow people complain she is too much of a damsel in distress and is too naive. With Ariel people say she is too selfish and impulsive. Both also have similar villains, the apple offering scene and the Poor Unfortunate Souls scene are both pretty similar in how both are powerful women tempting naive young princesses who give into temptation. Also both films were very important for Disney Snow's of course started it all and TLM kicked started the renaissance.

Cinderella and Belle- Both are more "mature" than their predecessors. They both have similar situations where they feel trapped in their mundane lives and are average girls who dream of getting out. They both deal with human villains whose beauty attracts them in different, yet negative ways. Tremaine hates Cindy's beauty and forces her into servitude. Gaston is obsessed with Belle's beauty and wants her solely because of it. Both girls are book smart, Belle always reading and Cindy knowing about the Octavius/Gus bit. They both have the most iconic ball gowns and have the ballroom scene. And in the end get the prince and become princesses.

Aurora and Jasmine- Like I said neither is the star of their film. Both also deal with similar all powerful villains who transform into huge monsters at the end. Both films also have the distinct art style. Sleeping Beauty's like a moving tapestry and Aladdin the Middle Eastern buildings and backgrounds. Both also deal with the thought of never seeing their true love again. Aurora thinks she'll never see Phillip again when she finds out she is a princess and Jasmine thinks Aladdin was beheaded on Jafar's orders.

Sorry for going off topic but I just thought it was interesting haha. Anyway I would love to see an Art of Aladdin and Jasmine collection. Aladdin is one of the few popular male Disney characters and it would be a cool way to market him as well as Jasmine. And I can not wait to see LE Aurora and Jasmine. And I hope we get LE Maleficent and Phillip with Aurora and Jafar and Aladdin with Jasmine!

Belle is one of my favorites, and is obviously intelligent, but I never found her to be the most intelligent. I think the reading bit makes her seem smarter than she is, but in the movie she couldn't even outsmart Gaston at the end. Mulan is the smartest, the one who uses her wits and ingenuity again and again to solve problems and save China.

Certainly, I think we can all agree that Princess Jasmine the Disney character is indeed a vague fantasy blend of cultural references spanning from the eastern Mediterranean area through to India. As xmencougar pointed out, her traditional outfit is based on a belly dancing costume with a small bra top and harem pants instead of a more modest traditional outfit. Disney is fantasy and their handling of ethnic cultures does tend to stay rather vague. One thing that is for certain is that at least some residents of Agrabah practice the Muslim faith ("Allah" is mentioned in the film).

Im Thinking Of Skipping Rapunzel From The Couples. What Do You Guys Think??

The DFDC Rapunzel and Flynn doll set needs some serious TLC and modifying... If you don't feel that you would want to tamper with the doll packaging and if Rapunzel is not a "must have" princess for you, I would recommend that you should probably skip it. Beyond the "Exorcist" head position of Rapunzel, there is a lot of extra plastic in there, including an obvious clear plastic piece held in between Flynn and Rapunzel! They look like a hot mess with the way they are packaged. I daresay it makes them look kind of ugly in a way. Rearranged, I am sure that they look gorgeous as a couple.

Yes. I think im pretty set on skipping her. The price id pay for her is better spent else where, I cant seem to fully embrace her. Her dolls never look good to me, much like Merida. they look better on screen. I have snow white and will get jasmine, ariel and belle for sure. They made beast quite impressive, but they didn't do much at all to style up the princes. Also they made Jasmines Head HUGE!!
