Please Share Online Pin Trading Experiences

I hope everyone is well. I have a few questions and I would appreciate learning about your experiences. While I have been pin trading for years in the parks and at events, I have never done pin trading though any website such as this one or pinpics. For those of you have done trades outside of the parks through one of these websites what have been your experiences and do you have any feedback as to how to make the experience safe. I have been updating my pinpics account in hopes of doing trades and have recently gotten a few requests, but am a bit concerned. I have read about some people getting scrapper pins through trades which would be a huge bummer and after a recent experience trying to trade some cards and not getting any in return, I am scared this might happen while trying to trade pins. I honestly never even gave the possibility of being scammed a thought and would just go ahead and send what we agreed upon and now I am heartbroken and fear that it may occur again. Are their ways to secure a safe trade? Any feedback as to what can be done? I know there are wonderful and honest people out there and I do not want to have this fear keep me from having nice, fun trading experiences, but after what happened with the cards my husband and I are a bit iffy. He is so upset he does not even want me to go ahead with any trades. Any help, recommendations and feedback would be greatly appreciated. I love pin trading and instead of buying the pins I am looking for it would be so much fun to trade. Thanks so much everyone!

Hello! I'm a relative newbie too - I started trading in May this year. I have mostly bought from the Disney store so far and traded with CMs, but I have also done a couple of trades via the Facebook groups, and made a couple of attempts on Pinpics which fell through in the end.

All of my experience as been good so far (apart from when a CM tried to trade me with a scrapper!! :sigh

The thing is, no matter how many times you have a good experience I am sure there will be times when something goes wrong and I'm sure it's a pain in the backside to sort out. I just think it's important to make a full agreement between you and the other trader before you make the trade. Think about:
Are you both sending it with a signed for/ tracking number?
What day will you both post it on?
Will it be insured (for higher value pins I guess?)
And if they don't have much feedback history, what happens if it's a scrapper? Will you send it back and who will be responsible for the postage to send it back?

Thanks for the tips. I thought about some of these options, wanted to see what others have done in order to endure a safe trade. The cards were the Sorcerer of the Magic Kingdom cards. We had a couple of successful trades, but 2 of them were not so great.

I'm a newbie myself so i'm interested in what people advice. I've concluded that i'm a collector now but eventually will go to trading.

Edit: Could someone tell me how to check trade request on pinpics.com? I see some in my email but that is as far as i can go. Thanks

We do most of our trading via PinPics, since we don't live near the parks, & I don't think we've ever had an issue. If you receive a request for a trade, don't be afraid to ask if they are the original owner & if the pin is new on card. Many traders are active on this forum & others. You can check the iTrader rating on DPF & I even check Dizpins for references. Happy trading:wavey:

Most traders are really good about sending out pins straight away, but once in a while, life gets in the way of a trade and sometimes pins take an extra two or three (or four) days to make it to the post office. Be patient and understanding. In general, I don't think people purposely try to make a trade difficult... BUT, always go with your gut and if something feels off, you're not obliged to trade so politely decline and move on to the next trade. Remember, if something sounds too good to be true, proceed with caution.

I have traded through PinPics for years and never had someone not follow through once the trade is finalized. Life happens, things get lost in the mail, and misunderstandings can occur, but I think overall pin traders are a good bunch of people. Don't be afraid to ask questions about the pins beforehand, and check references here and on DizPins. It can be nerve wracking at times but internet trading is way awesome if you don't live close to the parks.

I'm fairly new to pin trading as well. I was always a collector but, never really traded until this past year. I have made a few PinPics trades and they all have gone pretty well. Like many of other people have posted I ask questions. I also check on pinpics for the pins that they are offering for warnings like if a pin has been counterfeited or maybe some need to know info. I double check there references on Dizpins to see if they are active traders. One thing that I have to agree with what Diablo said in a earlier post is if it's too good to be true or does not sit right with you then walk away. My example is recently a person offered me an ART of Ariel pin that just came out at D23 which, probably go for like $200-$300 on Ebay for a pin that I have that is probably worth only $40-$50. I checked there references and they did not have any. I felt that this trade was way too good to be true and the trade was way Lopsided in my favor. It just did not sit right with me so I just ignored the offer. Hope this helps.

first off welcome to dpf...I have been trading for 13 years and I have had two trades go bad on pinpics,I got one trade back but the other was a lost cause nothing they could do.i traded through the old dizpins forums as well,alot of our members here on dpf and the pin forum pinpics created pintalk ,were former members of dizpins .like others I do not live near a park,just in Indiana ,so I rely on pinpics and dpf for trading purposes,when you trade online ,always check references,even if they are veteran traders ,as they are new to you as you are to them,we have Itrader here on dpf ,on the bottom of the left side we have our feedback numbers there,you can click on it and read how the trade went,and if you have to pm someone for their take on a certain member and their trade experience ,I am sure everyone will answer your questions.if you have to do a third party trade,the mods here are eager to help if and when they are needed.i for one loves to trade with new traders,as it helps them get a good ref and I like the feeling they get ,that they can be trusted.always when you trade ,send first class USPS tracking ,and use a bubble mailer and wrap the pin securely.i think you have all your questions answered,if you ever wanna trade,definetly ask ,as I would love too....even if its a mystery swap to help rotate your common traders.just have fun,Judy

I think this same person tried to trade with me too! They offered me Art of Ariel + the Little Mermaid marquee + others for an older Disney Auctions pin I have. When I told them I would trade but I was only interested in Art of Ariel, they told me that I needed to offer more pins instead! I ended up declining. Not because it wasn't fair, but because it just seemed really sketch. lol.

As for trading, Ive been trading through Pinpics since 2002 for the most part it has been excellent. in all the years ive only had 4 packages go missing and 3 of them were sent to Europe. I think we all have gotten Scrappers from one or two traders, who end up on my DO NOT TRADE list. On this site you are allow to leave negative feedback which i find can help to determine if you are going to trade with the person or not. Dizpins reference boards are run differently. If the trade is completed you leave reference. If not, you don't. I happen to like DPF feedback system.

Living in TX, online (mainly PinPics) is my main trading mode (10 years!) I can count on one hand the # of problems among the HUNDREDS of great trades I got careless in Jan, & agreed to a high end trade w a con artist who had essentially no references. Having said that, I LOVE trading online- but checking references on PinPics &/or DPF is very important. I always use USPS w tracking domestically, & ask my trading partners to do the same.

Just like Judy I have also been trading for 13 years and I live the next state over from her (Ohio) so I don't get to go to the parks very often either so I do most of my trading through the forums and pinpics. I think I may have had one or two bad experiances in those 13 years but it is bound to happen sooner or later. The way I look at it though, if you don't take the chance then how are you going to have fun in this hobby. I think you will find out that most of the traders out there are really good and fair people but you will always run into that one bag egg no matter what you do. my advice, forget about any bad experiances and just have fun
