I don't know how it is right now. last time I was at WDW, CM trading was still commonplace though the trading tables have a here today/gone tommorow lifestyle...
.
depends on the time of day. and who is working..... wearing lanyards is a choice. The folks who work the parades and such are usually ore into wearing them, so if a parade is not scheduled you may see fewer trader CM's that day.
Weekday = tons of lanyards, weekends = no lanyard or all picked over. You can only find new hidden mickey's if you attack a cast member when they leave the stage exit doors or come before opening and wait in line.
When I was at WDW last month, there were a lot of CMs with lanyards and pin boards at the resorts as well. Sadly, the majority of both of these options led to ALOT of Scrappers, however with persistence I was able to find some good authentic ones.
I was at both Disneyland as well as CA Adventure from Friday to Tuesday. When it comes to cast lanyards, it really depended on where/where you were looking for them. My traditional parade route trick of walking the route yielded only average results this time. And it seemed that more cast members at CA adventure had pins than those over at the main park. But the boards at Main Street Emporium, Little Mermaid gift shop, Westward Ho, New Orleans Square, Cozy Cone souvenir shop (pin trading cone), the main pin shop in CA Adventure and were all productive areas for me. Lotso (Little Green Men), Star Command, and the Bear at the shop across from Soaring not so much.
I also have the good fortune of trading with several Japanese guests at the park and acquired 10 Disney Tokyo pins.
2 weekends ago, I was at DL and DCA. The absolutely best cast member trading I've ever done was at that time at that open space behind Big Thunder BBQ where they have performances and that conjure-a-villain thing. My nephews and I were browsing the cart that had souvenirs, and this pirate lady cast member took my lanyard off of me, to my surprise, but the cast member at the cart said that she'll be back with it after a couple minutes and that it will be worth it. So I watched my nephews play with the swords and such, and when the pirate lady came back, she put my lanyard back on me and showed me her pins in 2 "books/containers". She said she has to be allowed to take my lanyard in order for her to show me her pins, but that she won't explain it outright when actually taking a lanyard. Gotta have trust, I suppose. Glad I didn't resist, but I'm sure the other cast member saw my shocked face. Interesting rule, pirate lady! I made my nephews trade with her so that I could get 6 of them total (out of about 16 or so she had). Yeah I'm greedy, but there were 3 of the current hidden mickey pins in there. But hey, they're pin traders too (despite being 10 and 8). I gave them other pins for the pins they got from her. I also do well at the board in the Grand Californian.
Oh, the original question....I thought there were a bunch of cast members with lanyards. I do like asking the sweepers/cleaners the most.
I haven't really been looking for lanyards lately however I did notice the most were near Big thunder mountain boy were there some nice pins.. Like some have said
DCA has more but it's never the same I seem to see the most over in the Hollywood land part.
