Limited Edition 17" Collector Dolls Information

I am nervous too, but I am trying not to get too worked up about it because we still have 20 days of waiting and I tend to get very anxious. The low edition size was a big concern since it was posted, even though the movie has not been released yet, their is a lot of buzz for the dolls and the sharks will buy any doll that is released because the Disney doll market has exploded in the last couple of years and continues to grow, so they will feed off of that. I am crossing my fingers for all of us. Can't wait until the 20th, I think I will go nuts until then. However as doll collectors we will always have a new date to look forward to.

I agree! Maleficent will be nearly impossible to get. My husband and I were talking about this and we are worried too. I love Sleeping Beauty and want all the dolls that are released from this movie.

Yes! I noticed this too! And really the only dolls the sharks went crazy over were Belle and Ariel who are known to be popular sell outs. I'm hoping these two are not hot like pancakes because they are not the fan favorites and because sharks might be seeing how poorly they've done buying so many dolls.

Reasons why I don't like Anna:

A) Her face. She doesn't look like Anna. that OOAK doll was perfect.

B) Her hair is weird.. They Disney store has a problem with short hair.. I don't understand why. It should be easier since it's a 17" doll.

C) The dress. What is going on with that? It's supposed to be silky. They got it wrong.

As for Elsa..
If mattel can do this on a 12" doll. I don't see why Disney can't do it on a 17".. Her cape thingy is bland, and the section with the heavy embroidery doesn't make sense. I expected a lot, especially her dress is Basically laced up Ice.

I completely agree. I looked at eBay, just for fun, too see how much the couples are going for. Some prices are ridiculous but there are just SOOOO many of them that it just takes a bit of patience and people will be able to score them close to retail. Sellers are quite silly and, as you said, shoot themselves in the foot - when the dolls go to the collectors they are much more harder to get meaning they're able to be sold for more. Sharks have pretty much just become a bit of a reseller because there's so many that us as the collectors get to decide the price- if it's too big, we just wait for a cheaper one, then the people selling their expensive ones are going to have to drop the price.

Of course, you are always going to get your people where money isn't an option and pay the outrageous prices.

Exactly. I think they have this great idea of buying up so many dolls when in reality that isn't always the smart thing to do. When the secondary market is flooded with a product, it is harder to justify larger prices, and I can't see them spending $1000 on dolls and being patient to get them moved before their credit card bill comes up. It isn't smart to build up hype through pre-orders and the like because often it just inspires other sharks to get them, leaving less for the collectors. It is a very, very delicate balance. You want to make sure that enough of the collectors/parents/Disney enthusiasts get them, or else it throws off their expected resale value. If too many sharks get them, they are looking at having to knock their prices down, and eventually there is a mark where they are probably only making $10-20 because of Paypal/Ebay/Shipping costs. Unless something is SUPER exclusive (LE 1000 or less in my opinion) it is not smart for sharks to really buy more than two, because ultimately while the market may seem very large, the market for people spending double, triple, and quadruple the prices is not. There are always those where money is no issue, but I speak for myself when I say I can always wait and hope to see a lower price. If the large majority of the people are like me, it is safe to say that marking up the prices, especially when there are so many still available for less on the secondary market, is not very smart. There was a WDCC piece I was bidding on with Gaston and the Silly Girls and I offered a respectable price, slightly above retail, but the seller didn't like it. When it was re-listed, it was about $400 over the price I offered, and about $300 over the price he wanted, which just didn't make sense to me. I ended up going through Amazon and getting both under retail and watched as he kept re-listing month after month. Eventually, I think they stopped putting it on there. It just goes to show that re-sellers who try to make a profit on items aren't really as lucky as they want. They think that some people will jump and pay whatever they have to in order to get something (usually those are in the first two days) but after that they settle down a LOT. It isn't usually until a year or so later that things may pick up again I've noticed.

I don't get it; why sell 10 of an LE the same day as its release/short time after release...that floods the market. The reseller has flooded it with 10. If they has only put up one, more people would bid on it instead of spreading out among the other 9. Also, there will be other resellers are putting up 10 each...Scarcity is what creates the demand in the first place
If I had ten of a rare thing to sell, I'd sell one at a time :/

Also they probably use script programs to 'autobuy' the item in about 2 seconds

I agree her face seems off, and I wish they had stuck with a beautiful oversized head braid instead of making it a ponytail.
That GIF convinces me that I'm not a huge fan of the doll's gown. I love the embroidery, and it is a very domed skirt, but the way it moves/swishes when she walks is gorgeous! I wish that had translated without the overtly obvious lace hem (and I love lace).

Although I like Elsa better, I agree they could have done more with her. I mean, this is one doll they could have bedazzled and glitter-fied all over and it would have probably worked. I want shimmery shimmer everywhere and the starburst pattern on her sleeves.

I still think she's gorgeous though. And I want her <3

Anyone notice the slightly iridescent color of her cape? What if something similar were to be used for Aurora?

I'm really starting to hate the new tendency of giving the LE 17" no accessories at all :S . They look so empty handed. I guess I will have to find stuff to add to them.

Agreed! But to be fair, some of the characters don't necessarily have iconic hand-held accessories (re: Cinderella, since her glass slippers are on her feet, or Queen Elinor), or we are not yet aware of appropriate accessories (re: Elsa & Anna). That said, the LE dolls for the Queen of Hearts, Wedding Rapunzel, Cinderella, Merida & Elinor, Ursula, Ariel, Elsa, and Anna all have been made without those nice little held items that do enhance the overall appearance of the dolls.

I've never minded a doll being without hand held accessories. I think they fit for some dolls like Snow with an apple, but for others I don't miss them, like Cinderella didn't really need a carriage clutch.

Actually.. If you look closer, Elsa's cape has a lot of glitter. The reason I don't like it is because it's not see through fabric and her sleeves don't have embroidery.

But I will say this. Both Anna and Elsa are better than Cinderella and Tremaine.

There's several things we can assume about their outfits.

1. The film is based off of Norway and the culture, including the indigenous Saami people of Scandinavia.

2. Because of being Scandinavian, their dresses are based off of the traditional wear called a Bunad.

3. The film is set in Summer.

The dress would actually be made of a lightweight wool. Lightweight wool is actually quite flowly, and has no sheen (whereas Satin would be high-sheen).

Wow, that price is a little too much in my opinion. I know it is super LE, but almost triple the price of just buying the two separately? Wowzers. I hope it is just a European exclusive so that I don't have to see it in person and get sad. Plus I'm not sure how I would like it with the other dolls because the box looks huge.

I thought the same thing. Maybe a mistake on price? I saw this picture of Flickr. People were stating same thing: the price is too high. It's like $800. Um, Merida and Elinor cost $200 and didn't sell out until like 9 mos later. It takes longer for things to sell out in England. They still have the Brave snow globe that I want. Would they even buy these dolls at such a high price? I wouldn't.
