2014 Designer Dolls - Fairytale Collection Part II
I think it is safe to say that as suspected the Designer Fairies dolls are not the Designer line for 2014. The fairy dolls are released as a special release to commemorate the upcoming Tinker Bell the Pirate Fairy movie. I think it was also used an an opportunity for Disney to release a LE doll of Tinker Bell. In fact if you notice Disney does not actually call these dolls designer they refer to them as limited edition dolls.

So i think this still leaves us open as to what the Designer line for 2014 will be and I have a strong suspicion that it may in fact be the designer fairytale part 2 collection as suggested by many members of the forum. I also think that it will be the remaining 5 from the original 10 but I would like to think that there will be a secret/exclusive 6th set that would feature Anna and Kristoff. I guess we will find out more by around July, closer to the expected release date. Cannot wait to see what this year's line will look like.

That is something I noticed too when the dolls were officially announced. Their slip cases clearly say Disney Fairies Designer Collection, but when they were officially announced, they only referred to them as limited edition Tinkerbell dolls for the release of "The Pirate Fairy". Plus, Tinkerbell is the only one that looks "designer" like to me. I expect a continuation of the Fairytale line, or a new line all together. If its a new line, im hoping for something different. The fact that we are getting a limited edition doll of Tinkerbell is probably the most unique thing to come out doll wise in a while.

I'm actually not expecting any more fairies because they actually canceled the other films they were going to make of the other fairies and I think there will only be one more now after this one. So unless they release more for the last film, which I could see them doing. Apparently the films and merchandise aren't selling well as they like, so they've decided to drop it. I'm actually quite sad about this because I have a lot of good memories of the line when it was new and my first trip to Disney World I remember watching it in my hotel room with my mom.
Siren, I'm in Mass too, where are you located?

I totally agree Polaris. Plus I did talk with a CM who confirmed a DFDC part 2.

I really love Tinker Bell and she is one of my big collections so I will definitely be getting her. Im kind of bothered by the empty space at the bottom of the case. The other dolls all had long, bigger dresses to cover that space. I know Tink is known for that short dress, so I might add some props to cover up that empty space. Maybe something relating to the new movie.

Also I was really hoping for a Tink doll, so I might just switch her outfit to the classic one. I really wanted a beautiful designer/LE doll of her in the Classic look.

Western, soon to be Florida though around Orlando. My parents will be here though.

I'm moving to Orlando too! In the fall that is haha. I live in a town about an hour away from there right now but will be making the move for college. We'll probably see each other at future doll releases! :p

I would like to see a designer fairy mini doll series. Make them half the size of the designer collection but have the boxes look identical, just much smaller, and the price be half as much. I would collect them all if they did that.

My CM said there will be the couples series #2 around September/October, he is usually 98% correct

Matthewlondon; To me Pocahontas and Mulan are not fairytales nor princess's so they should just skip them and put them with other characters like Meg.[/QUOTE said:
Good thing that Disney disagrees with you. Those two are princesses and deserve their own dolls in the DC set.

Yes haha! I think the closest Disney Store to me will be the one at the Florida Mall.

Disney can market them as princess's all they like but I just think they would be better suited to a collection with other heroines, because Mulan and Pocahontas are hardly fairytales(Pocahontas is based on real life) and she doesn't even have a happily ever after , and I don't care what people say IMO. Mulan isn't a princess she is only their for diversity and for marketing, but for those who want her expect another Mulan in a matchmaker outfit and white makeup:)

I love the film mulan and if they put her in a heroines designer collection then we might finally get a Mulan that is true to character and not in the matchmaker dress!

The new mini Fairy dolls in store and online now are actually kind of cute. But yeah a designer line would be awesome too.

I notice you are in NE, you must have heard from the same store I did. I was also told by a CM that there would be a second DFDC in the Fall this year. He seemed pretty sure about it too.

I don't mind Mulan in her matchmaker outfit, loved that dress since I was a kid. To be honest, I don't want a Mulan doll in armor or any soldiar gear. Mulan is a beautiful character and I love her in her dresses a lot more, for the next doll I would prefer her in the dress she wears in the end when she's at the palace. She's not in any scenes with Shang in her matchmaker dress - so wouldn't make sense for disney to put her in that if they made them into a fairytale couple.

I know it wouldn't make sense but I still think disney would use the matchmaker outfit, they always do lol! If they are going to do Mulan, I hope she's in the outfit at the end too, as it's not armour but it's not super girly either. I'd buy Mulan if she's in that outfit. Did disney ever say the fairytale collection had to be just the princess's? Maybe they will surprise with a few characters. I always thought the whole point of the fairytale collection was to give us the males? And they just put princess's with them to insure they would sell? In the new collection theirs only really Phillip who is popular? I mean would they do John Smith even though their is no fairytale/happy ending etc?

I couldn't agree more, both Mulan and Pocahontas has that extra thing that makes them princesses, for example they are brave, kind and other important qualities and that's why they deserve to be princesses. It's not royal blood.:)
But I'd still love to see an Esmeralda Phoebus couple or a Hercules Meg one.

This is the exact quote from "The Buzz" (DS's official blog) in regards to the DFDC:
Designed and beautifully crafted to capture the essence of “happily ever after” at its best, Disney Store’s Fairytale Designer Collection celebrates five iconic Disney Princesses and their leading men who, together, magically create a one-of-a-kind Collection that will be treasured keepsakes of collectors, Disney fans, and every princess and prince at heart!

So taken all together, if we are to interpret this as literally as possible, then yes it is only for the Princesses and Princes. I don't think we can really take the "essence of 'happily ever after at its best" thing to necessarily mean the end scene of the film (i.e. the "happily ever after"), because DFDC Belle is with the Beast from the ballroom scene, not with Beast's human form at the end of the film. Likewise, DFDC Aladdin and Jasmine seem to be taken more from the sequence of "A Whole New World." DFDC Ariel and Prince Eric's moment is from that really short scene of them dancing in the town. DFDC Rapunzel and Flynn Rider's moment is from "I See the Light." Only DFDC Snow White and The Prince can be said to be dressed in their iconic "happily ever after" moment of their Love's First Kiss.

So if the DFDC is continued with the remaining 5 "original" Disney Princess couples:
-Cinderella and Prince Charming will most likely be in their ball outfits (waltz, stroke of midnight, losing the slipper, etc.)
-Aurora and Prince Philip could be their meeting in the woods (Briar Rose/Philip's woodland outfit), the True Love's Kiss moment (Aurora in blue gown/Philip's woodland outfit without his hat), or the final waltz (Aurora in pink or blue gown & Prince Philip's court outfit). Lots of options here.
-Pocahontas and John Smith... I see their moment from "Colors of the Wind," especially the part when they are holding hands and the colorful leaves are swirling around them or near the end when they are standing on the cliff looking out at the sunset. This song has a lot of "pose" moments and has the most potential in the film for the DFDC concept.
-Mulan and Li Shang... I can see a few "couples" moments for them, some more elegant than others: "I'll Make a Man Out of You" is the least likely in my mind, because Mulan is supposed to look like a dude and Li Shang is half-naked throughout the song. I have no complaints about Li Shang showing off his muscles if they were to make a good body sculpt for that purpose, but nakedness does not lend much to the designer concept. In "I'll Make a Man Out of You (reprise)," Mulan is in a dress and Li Shang is in his armor... they have a connection right before they scale the pillars of the palace, and then after Mulan kills Shan Yu, when they connect some more, they are still wearing the same outfits. The Emperor's medallion and Snah Yu's sword can be added as accessories here. Last, in the Fa family garden at the end of the film, Mulan is wearing another dress and Li Shang is in armor. They could use Mulan's helmet as a prop... or Mushu? There are definite options for Mulan and Li Shang.
-Tiana and Prince Naveen have limited human scenes together in the film. The most obvious is either of their weddings, with the bayou wedding being the "big romantic moment" in the film, due to the kiss and transformation. I would expect this one. But I would prefer their church wedding outfits, because her white wedding gown looks way more 1920s, and we have not see it marketed much. Last, they could have them wearing the outfits during "Down in New Orleans (reprise)" at the end of the film, which also has some nice period outfits, but this scene does not have as much of a strong impact on the audience in terms of highlighting the love.

For the remaining men, I would say that Prince Philip and Prince Naveen are the most popular, with Prince Charming also being easily recognized as he has become the model for the stereotypical fairy tale prince (thanks to the long-standing popularity of Cinderella). Li Shang has his fans, which runs parallel to the Mulan fans out there. John Smith is a bit of the odd man out here, because he does not end up with Pocahontas at the end of th film and also because the historical events of Pocahontas' story do not point to a romantic relationship between them at all, and so the Disney version was moulded to create the fictional romance (I don't think that they thought that they were going to do a sequel at the time the original film was made). John Rolfe as a doll companion is not a likely option, because the Disney company tends to omit the events and characters of any sequels that were made in the 1990s-2000s in most of their merchandise (other than in storybooks, especially with Cinderella's storybooks). That said, a DFDC Pocahontas doll would be paired with John Smith.

So basically they want to stop focus on the Tinkerbell films, which are surprisingly good and of great quality, and put focus on sequels to that awful Planes film? I don't get Disney sometimes.
Pretty much. I don't get why they can't do more than one thing. I've also heard a rumor they are getting rid of the other fairies in the parks too, which sucks because it means darker girls and Asian girls will be only limited to playing Tiana and Mulan if there's no Iridessa and Silvermist.

Thanks for posting the link to the blog...BUMMER!!!! I love ALL of the Tinkerbell film and think they are very well done. I've never seen Planes and don't really plan on seeing it. How stupid of disney! A lot of the animation is outsourced anyway......
