2014 Designer Dolls - Fairytale Collection Part II
Oops, I just saw someone already posted them. Sorry :)
I love how Cinderella's hair has turned out!

Ok..

-There really isn't anything new with Tiana... It's just the same exact image. lol
-Prince Charming's skin tone is normal. It matches Cinderella's. I would wait until the lithograph images come out because that's when you'll see all the shadows and stuff.
-Pocahontas and Jon smith look like they're about to go into a battle. Not romantic at all. lol. Also, the reaction of the price of their set is going to interesting. Because I can't see there set sell for more than $90.
-I like the Aurora is in her briar rose dress, but I also don't like it. I don't like that they changed the color of her skirt. I don't like that it's a fancy gown instead of the short skirt. :/ Also, it is very very very similar to Ariel's dress. I mean, look at this:
Screen_Shot_2014_05_30_at_11_49_21_AM.png

But overall, she's still better than every other design we've seen. So I'm gonna give them a pass for this.

-The highlight of mulan's dress is her sleeves. The main problem I have with her dress is that It's going to have be really really really tight in order for it to look good. Shang is shang....Its going to be interesting to see if his armor will be made with plastic or metal. and his helmet too. lol

New ratings based on what i've seen:
1. Aurora/Briar Rose and Prince Phillip
2. Cinderella and Prince Charming
3. Pocahontas and John Smith
4. Mulan and Shang
5. Tiana and Naveen

I never saw Aurora's peasant dress as being purple. Isn't it more of a hazy brown/gray? Maybe the slightest hint of dusty purple, but it's really more brown. I would have loved to have seen her with a really rich version of that color instead of a very "Rapunzel purple" shade. Browns can be luxurious. My wedding was in all browns. :)
I agree, I've always seen it as grey. The only thing that is purple is her shawl, but they made the original Animator Aurora in a purple version of her Briar Rose outfit. I think when they used to sell the extra outfits for the classic dolls it was also purple there. Maybe they think little girls don't like grey? I used to love it when I was little even though it was grey. I'm still excited for her though, since I prefer her Briar Rose outfit to her princess outfit.

Aurora looks really good. I love the purple. I also really like Cinderella she looks very pretty. Pocahontas looks nice as well. I really hope her doll looks good because Pocahontas is my favorite. Mulan is pretty as well and I think she and Shang have the cutest pose. Tiana is the biggest disappointment. I do like the darker green color of her skirt but she could have looked so much better.

1) Make it Blue! Make it Pink!
Just a few minutes on this forum reveals the debate is alive and well. It always seemed quite obvious to me that Disney places Aurora in her pink dress so that she stands out from Cinderella. After all, the dresses are similar at first glance and both princesses are blonde. It's an easy call to make. Of course, they never put her in her peasant clothes because she's a princess and should be regal at all times. For those lovers of the blue Aurora, sorry, Cindy already has that look.

2) The ethnic princesses are everyone's least favorites.
Mulan, Pocahontas, Jasmine and Tiana are at the bottom of most people's lists. I find this really curious since these princesses seem to have some of the best developed personalities. Sassy, strong, brave, hard-working. Maybe that's just it then. Strong princesses ruin the fairy tale? The classic romance with a damsel in distress is nostalgic for so many of us and harder to achieve when the princess has more than 18 lines of dialogue (Aurora). We want our princesses to be lovely, demure, gentle and sweet (and sadly it seems, white). The theory doesn't fit universally. Merida is quite strong and seems to be popular among girls but not so much among collectors. Her dolls are cheap on eBay. I'm interested to see which princesses become popular as the next generation of girls grows up.

Cinderella´s dress is not really blue but silver white. If she would wear that color there would be no problem with Aurora wearing blue. Aurora wears pink for only few seconds when she is dancing and we never even she her properly. Blue Cinderella and pink Aurora would not be huge problems but you never see then in anything else until now that Aurora is in her Briar rose outfit.
I think the etching princesses are not as popular because their movies are among the least popular. Jasmine is from a popular movie but she is not the main character. And my favorite Pocahontas does not wear a good dress for a doll and Tiana wears mostly green which is the least favorite color for many. But I still think Jasmine and Mulan are popular, some just like more traditional fairytale dresses. I do not think you can compare character popularity directly with the popularity of dolls, there are polls on fanpop for example and Pocahontas and Mulan are usually on the top with the classic princesses on the bottom. I hope there will be a ethnic princess from a hit film who wears beautiful dresses that are not green and is the main character. Maybe Moana will be.

I think Aurora´s dress looks different on different releases. You can Google her dress and some look very grey and some definitely look purplish. I would like to know the original version, it is possible the grey is from VHS versions that had lost some of the color and purple is form remastered ones. I think the remastered ones are definitely more colorful. I hope Disney did not intentionally change the color (sometimes I worry that they will edit the film so that Fauna won and put Aurora pink for the entire film ) if someone knows what color Aurora´s dress was originally I would appreciate it. Perhaps I could go to a different Disney forum where many are animators and know these things (and not mention that I am injuring this regarding a doll…)

But I love the purple on her (one of my favorite colors anyway) and I have always seen her shawl purple at least.

I think purple was just a nod to the whole blue/pink fiasco.

Aurora and Philip had very earthy colors a lot of browns and pale creamy colors, I guess Disney doing this is their way of "designerfying" the characters. Even Philip is completely different his outfit is white as opposed to brown and he doesn't have his cape or hat.

Cinderellas prince I do not get since he doesn't look like the same prince...maybe they changed his look to make him similar to Snow's prince since Cinderella appears to have a similar make over like Snow had last year hence why I think she might be the one starting the set. Ie being released first.

In her concept art it's grey/cream/brown. I think most people interpret as grey from the cosplays and fan art I've seen.

I agree the the purple is just there way of making it designer, since it's obvious it's only loosely based on her dress, kind of like how Ariel's was.

I think that Pocahontas and John Smith have the same poses when they are standing on the cliff during Colors of the Wind so I like it. I generally like poses that look they are scenes from the films. Maybe they could have picked the end of the song when they are fazing each other but I do not think many would not have appreciated that pose even if they would have looked more romantic.
Aurora´s dress has always been rather similar to Ariel´s (or the other way around since Aurora´s was first). The color change (or making the colors more vibrant, I honestly think her dress might have been purplish in the original) just makes it more obvious. At least they added the golden part and the embroidery looks different. But Ariel´s dress looked great and do not think there was more for them to do.

And my rankings are:
1.Briar Rose and Phillip
2.Mulan and Shang
3.Pocahontas and John Smith
4.Cinderella and her Prince
5.Tiana and Naveen

I am sorry to have made so many posts, I promise this will be the last one (for a while at least…) I have been gone for here forever and by change happened to visit here when there is news so it is nice to post something after such a long time.

I know nobody knows for sure but at a guess will I have till September/October to save for these? Or will they come out in June or July?
I really hope Aurora looks as good as she does in the art work! I can't wait to have designer Aurora in pink, designer maleficent and the couples set all together!

I would expect them to come out around the same time the last wave did, so from August to October maybe? I gotta say I love the them even more now that I have seen full images of the artwork. The only thing that bugs me is Charming's skin color. Its still clearly his face, but his tanned skin makes him look off to me. He still looks great, but it just bugs me a little. I am sure the dolls will look even better and I cannot wait for pictures to come up! Looks like I am going to be spending a fortune later in the year with the 17 inch dolls, designer dolls, and the Sleeping Beauty merchandise.

Based upon the designs my favorite couple overall is Pocahontas and John Smith. I thought my favorite would be Aurora and Phillip, but I don't like the way they turned out. Her dress looks too much like DFDC Ariel's and I wish the colors were more true to the original design. Phillip really doesn't look like himself, which is unfortunate since as a character he is my favorite prince of the group. I would have to say that my favorite design for all of the princesses is Cinderella's. Hopefully she will look like that in doll form and not pull a Snow White. Like Phillip, Prince Charming doesn't look like himself.

Here's how I would rank the couples from my most favorite to least favorite based upon these designs:

1. Pocahontas and John Smith
2. Cinderella and Prince Charming
3. Aurora and Phillip
4. Mulan and Shang
5. Tiana and Naveen

I can't wait to see these in person! I think I am most excited about Aurora and Pocahontas, although I do plan to get them all. Just seeing the artwork has already got me nervous about ordering them.

Same release as last year so the first one will go on sale around late August and then each a fortnight after up until the middle/end of October.

Finally got a chance to catch up on everyone's comments! And may I just say, I am so excited for these dolls!
My two cents on the concept art:

1) Aurora (Briar Rose) and Phillip: I have to rank them first as they are my favorite couple and I am absolutely ecstatic to have Aurora in her peasant dress. I think she looks stunning- I'm very pleased they included her shawl. The gold inset on the skirt threw me off at first, but I think the purple and gold are very regal looking and color was the best way to dress up this gown. Phillip looks distant but I like his costume. It's less neutral colored and more festival of fantasy inspired. My biggest qualms: I wish Phillip had his cape, and I'm worried about how they will be posed, since in the concept art Phillip looks very rigid.

Lastly, yes- Aurora's designer dress is similar to Ariel's... because Ariel's town dress is very close to Aurora's and likely inspired by it! So if they look similar, it's because they are. But Aurora's was first. And there are enough differences between the two that I think each is very distinctive.

2) Cinderella and Charming: I adore Cinderella's loose updo and hope that it translates well on the doll. Also, the back of her dress is stunning. It's nice to see her ballgown reinvented since we see her in it so often. Charming looks too tan, and his hair should be darker, but he still looks very handsome. It's interesting that his suit is navy instead of white, but it doesn't bother me that much. Their pose is also very vogue and pretty, and I like their concept art the best.

3) Mulan and Shang: First a complaint- I don't like that they chose the matchmaker dress for Mulan because this whole series is themed around when the couples fall in love, so therefore Mulan should be wearing her Emperor's dress. I think it could have been very striking and beautiful, plus it's something new. That said, if it had to be the matchmaker dress, they did well. It looks beautifully embellished and I love the trumpet/mermaid like skirt on it. Also love the sheer quality on her sleeves; hopefully that will translate. I hope she comes wearing her comb, because that's the icing on the cake. Shang looks good but uninspired, I see nothing wholly original about his look.

4) Pocahontas and John Smith: Mostly I love the concept art for this one. Clearly in the spirit of "colors of the wind," they look strong and united without having to look at each other. Pocahontas looks pretty and I like the addition of the shawl to spice up her dress. I'm very glad they didn't use a version of the "new look" for her outfit. The feathers in her hair worry me because of how easily they could turn odd looking on a doll if they're too big. I wonder how detailed her necklace will be. John looks stately and not too jazzed up, which suits this set.

5) Tiana and Naveen: To me, the most uninspired of this set. We always see Tiana in this gown, but there's not much that sets this one apart from any of the others in my opinion. I would have loved to see a version of Tiana's ceremonial (white) wedding gown instead. Naveen looks very handsome though, and it'll be cool to see him decked out alongside Tiana for once. Not a fan of the concept art. There's an awkward space between them, and something about the way Tiana is looking down and Naveen has his hand on her shoulder makes me feel like they're really disconnected emotionally. They are such an energetic couple but I don't think you feel their love or personality in this.

As far as the discussion on Aurora's gown-
First I'd like to say that Cinderella's and Aurora's gowns are not similar besides both being ballgowns. I'll spare you the breakdown but it irks me that people think this. It's no secret I prefer the blue, and I think I do so mostly because it is movie accurate and in my opinion it looks better on her. However I've come to the point where I recognize that most people generalize her as the "pink" princess and that now most merchandise I will ever find of her will be pink. But that just makes finding her in blue all the more special for me :)
And I close with a pic from probably my favorite game ever, which also happens to prefer the princesses in their original colors.

I think she means it's a shame they got leaked. And I agree.

But they look very nice. I can't really tell until I see the dolls themselves, though, because I really love the illustration for the Tangled fairytale couple but the dolls' eyes are a bit creepy.

That is exactly what has stopped me from buying those dolls, cause good God do I love her dress!!!!

Aurora's dress was originally grey. Disney has made it purple for some of the dolls though.

So I am horrible with posting pictures and did not manage to write anything to the post and the post is huge. :( I should learn how to post pictures better.

Anyway so I had just seen before pictures like this where the dress looks slightly purple. Aurora´s blouse looks also different. So most likely the colors accidentally look different in this version since the background colors were remastered. I do not know which version this photo is from. I wonder if her dress looks more grey in the Diamond edition.

Ok there's a lot of buzz about the dress color of Aurora. To be clear: The original movie (as far as I know) has purple/pink tones used for the briar rose skirt. I admit, not in every scene sometimes it is more red (or even yellow).

I made a screencap of the movie, opened the image in photoshop and selected the color of the skirt. (I marked the place I took the color from with the green circle)

So, my opinion is that the purple color isn't that different from the original movie. It's just another tone (more vibrant)

So happy with the fact Aurora will be in her Briar Rose dress, as I've been hoping she would be for months now! It's my favourite princess dress after SQ Elsa and the woodland scene is one of my favourites so I'm ecstatic. Will definitely be getting her and Phillip <3

I seem to be in the minority who loves Tiana's design! Sure, I'd prefer her city/white wedding outfit but I think the design is gorgeous. Hate her pose though :/ I love Mulan and Shang too, meh on the others.
