Will this event be well attended? Last year we went to the Tiki Room Event and it was a sell out but the pin trading was sparse at best. Do you think there will be more pin traders this year? Why are these events not well attended?

Yes, there will be more pin traders this year. The merchandise is all pins/lanyards. I don't imagine a whole bunch of non pin-traders showing up to an event where they have to pay to get a stab at a bunch of merch they don't want.

There are fans of the Tiki Room and of SHAG (who was one of the many artists that designed pins). The Tiki Event also was split between pins and merchandise. There was also a cocktail hour (few hours) with SHAG that you could pay extra for last year.

Here, the NBC event is mainly pins. You should see more pin traders, but then again, those local to So Cal probably wouldn't pay to go to an event to see the same people they see for free at DLR.

We are coming from Florida. Last year I brought 4 books. Very little trading, better than Sci Fi. Boards were good.
Do not know if it is worth he hassle to fly with pins.t

When I read the title i thought it was going to be how they ran out of churros or dole whip. :p

Wish I could go. Anyone want to grab me an AP jumbo ? I can send you monies :wat:

You should be able to buy them yourself come sunday. I do not see anything selling out, seeing as how between my wife and I we were awarded six of everything. and we refused most of it

I'm so worried that this will be like the sci if event where everyone was at the boards and no one was trading, but if they limit the amount of times we can go to the boards like at tiki event then we may all be forced to trade since no one will be able to go on the boards anymore!

But everyone should bring all their pins! We need tons of trading to happen!

I didn’t attend the Tiki Event for the following reasons:

  1. Not at all into the Tiki Room.
  2. Not interested in anything on the RSP.
  3. Scant details in the Event documentation on what sort of trading area there would be.

I consider myself local to DLR – and - I essentially stopped ad-hoc trading at DLR some years ago.

The main reasons I am going to this Event are:
  1. The dedicated pin trading area clearly listed in the event details: noon to 8 PM on Friday, plus the entire length of the formal event on Saturday.
  2. The hope that there will be multiple non-locals attending this Event who are also interested in trading.

I really hope that they don't limit the amount we can trade at the boards. I have maybe one pin that would be worth something good to a collector and that's it. Boards and the merch are the only reasons I'm going (and the fact that I love NBC). I am hoping to get some really good pins off of the boards so I have pins people will actually want!

Tiki (the last event) - they limited it to four trades, but three boards. So if you wanted to trade at the first board, you had to make sure you found two pins.

True, you're still in Southern California. I don't know if they will let you in to trade without getting the registration packet, though. And at last year's Tiki Event, it apparently took 3-4 hours to get the packet? I remember hearing horror stories about what happened on Friday (I got my packet on Saturday) but that could be because the registration was later in the afternoon?

Just to clarify, I registered for the NBC Event for the reasons detailed in my last post.

I intend to be there on Friday before noon. I have been to events before at DLR, just not last years, and do not recall any particular problems picking up my RSP items on the 1[SUP]st[/SUP] day of the Event. I am hoping that whatever caused the problems at last year’s event was merely a fluke and that I will be able to spend the majority of the time the Event is open on Friday in the trading area.

Hope you have a great time trading! These events sound a bit interesting yet odd too because I don't understand the reason to pay to get into an event to trade.

I remember reading ding about these events in the past probably on a PinPics blog. I remember meeting people who told me about their experiences with past pin events. It sounded like last years "registration packet pick-up" was crazy. Hope everyone who goes has a great time.

::MYSTERY BOX SETS!!::

I've been meaning to create a post regarding the mystery box pins... if any of you are interested in getting together and opening up boxes at the same time, let me know! I want to complete a full set and have no problems trading extra chasers for regular pins in order to complete a set. I'm planning on being there for the merch pickup on Friday. Let's do this!!

If you don't come out west with your pins, would you be open to pre-trading? That way, you can just bring out the pins you need to complete trades!? :) You have some pins on my Pinpics wants. I'll send you a PM.

We'll be there Friday Mike! Find us as we will be hoping to complete the mystery set, plus one other as well!

Sounds good!!

Once we find a little corner to do make these trades, I'll post something here on DPF. Most likely though, I'll open them up right away in the pick up area... hopefully that will get others to join us. :)

I will have three boxes of the mystery pins (going to call today to see if there are any left as we didn't do any purchases with my boyfriend's registration). I'm only looking for pins with Zero only on them, so any others I get, or any duplicates of Zero are up for trade. Please keep me in mind if anyone has any extra Zeros :)!! We will be there tomorrow :). We will be easy to spot. I'll be with my boyfriend and he'll have his service dog with him.

Hope to meet some of you guys tomorrow :)!!

Have fun trading today.

Dixie

If it's like the Tiki Event, they will have a separate station with pins that you can buy :) I'm certain they will have lots of mystery boxes :)

we'll be there Mike and Debbie..... trying to put a friend's set together. I think he's getting 25 boxes (at least - ugh!).
