2014 Designer Dolls - Fairytale Collection Part II
I'm a smidge disappointed they didn't make an Anna and Kristoff. They could have been really amazing! My wallet isn't complaining though haha! My birthday is in September though so I think I'll be okay. Just hope there aren't any issues ordering *knock on wood* I'm running out of space for dolls so pretty much Cinderella (one of my favs growing up!) and Aurora will be my last two that I purchase. I already own 5 of the 2011 dolls and then the 5 from last year and then LE Nov Elsa and LE March Anna. Not a lot by some standards but they do take up a full bookshelf and then my LEs are on a separate small table. I'm not really the type to sell my dolls so I shudder to imagine when the inevitable moving happens in the next year or so lol

Those are much clearer pictures of the designs! And just as I thought, Cinderella and Mulan are definitely on my "to buy" list. I am really wanting to get Aurora and Pocahontas too though...and heck despite Tiana looking so normal, I even want her set too! So I may get one more... I may get Cinderella and Mulan for myself and then get Pocahontas for my mom because of how much she loves her and Native American dolls in general. But I gotta say, the highlight of the set is either Cinderella or Aurora.

A good thing to keep in mind with this though is that while some people don't get charged until dolls ship, depending on the credit cad provider or bank, they do put a hold on the funds. So, basically they debit the amount, but put it back after a couple of days. So if the money is not in the account, a person can face possible overdraft fees or even an order a cancellation.

I have seen this happen to people and it is very sad. It would be completely heartbreaking to think one has the item they ordered only to be told that their order was cancelled.

I can vouch for this too, I know that if you use a Disney visa card that is a completely different story as they will only put a hold on the card of $1 but with any other payment method they will always take a hold of the full amount (except for paypal where they will charge you upfront). I confirmed this with the Disney Store numerous amounts of times and know for a fact that this does in fact happen because I was not able to order a doll once due to my card being maxed out therefore I had to use a different payment method.

It wont even let you proceed with the order after you hit the payment button it just says that the card issuer declined the transaction.

So for those of you wanting to order these upcoming dolls, dont take the risk that just because it is a preorder you wont be charged because that is not true, in fact it would be silly of you if you dont have the money to begin with to buy these dolls as that means you should not be buying them since you cannot afford it. You have had over a year to save up for these and in fact still have about 2 months to save up so I definitely recommend that you do so because if you cannot save for them now then what makes you think you will be able to save for them during doll season when more and more items will be coming out. You will just end up always being on the back foot and one step behind for these releases.

This is very true, and I'm definitely the type to say don't buy something if you don't have the money in your account to cover the costs and any hidden costs (in my case usually if I get dinged at the border for import costs), however not everybody knew about these dolls a year ago, in which case they wouldn't have been saving up for them. But luckily there are a couple months left to get the cash, assuming they announce them around Aug 1st like last year, sell merch mid-August and release the dolls towards the end of August. Hopefully they'll keep them at the $130 US price like they did last year.

Speaking of the mid-August merch release, I think I'll get the Cinderella journal, it's too pretty to pass up. Might get the mug for it too, although I seriously have so many mugs and I don't really like the shape of these mugs (the pedestal part of it is just annoying), owning the SW and Rapunzel ones from last year. I always get the notecards so I can pin them up, but since there's 5 in the DFDC sets, you get 4 of each card (nice!). I really only need 1 of each, so I was giving away sets to my cousins. If anybody just wanted single copies of some, let me know, I could probably send some your way!

I'm really hoping that the Cinderella and Aurora dolls are released in August/September period 'cause I send them to the States and then drive to get them, but if it's before October then the ferry will still be open for the season :p

Yes that is true not everyone knew of them but most did as most were expecting them anyway. Those that didnt know about them would be the newbies but to be honest 2 months is a lot of time to save and that is just going by today. This thread was created at the beginning of the year therefore there was even a 6 month period and so on.There will always be newbies but it really just comes down to the fact that if you cannot afford it then don't force it. To be honest a lot of people are not buying the entire set and are just buying the individual dolls as that will give them at least 2 weeks between dolls to save up the $130 needed for them.

At the end of the day like you said if a person doesn't have the money and is worrying about when they are going to be charged, maybe that is a sign that they should reconsider preordering the set and just buying the dolls individually. Then again everyone has their reasons for doing what they do so I guess this is no different.

I agree about the mugs too, I have all the designer mugs going back to the princess ones so that works out to be about 21 designer mugs in total LOL, then with addition of these five it will bring it up to 26 haha.

I'm a big collector of items over at Sideshow Collectibles. There have been many cases where preordered items have been pushed back so far that people's cards expire or their cards get rejected due to lack of funds. Usually before an item is about to be charged to your card they will send a courtesy reminder 3 days in advance, but I'm not sure of Disney does the same. It's quite sad when items that people have been looking forward to get cancelled due to mishaps like that.

The difference with sideshow and Disney is that some Sideshow figures (usually the Hot Toys ones) do not require a deposit whereas other will. In the case of Disney what they will do is that during checkout they will put a hold on your card (unless it is a Disney Visa card). The hold will be the same amount needed for the order, so in the case of the designer dolls it would be the $130 plus tax plus shipping. Now if you are at your limit or do not have enough in your account is up to your card provider to determine if they will still let the charge through because they will notice that it is only a hold as opposed to a charge. Most will not let it through because they do not know how long until the actual charge will be incurred therefore treat it like a charge. If this does in fact happen what will happen is that during the checkout process it will tell you that the provided did not allow the charge therefore to use a different payment method.

Every year this topic about prepayments and when you are charged is always asked and to put simply, if you do not have the funds at the time of the preorder then you should not be preordering the item, you can still try risk it and it may go through but if you would rather be safe than sorry then just go by the theory that they will take a hold on your card.

This has been confirmed to me many times by Disney and I even asked them how it all works so as much as others say that they were not charged, they could be in a totally different scenario to you as we found at last year that those that use the Disney Visa are not charged the full amount but instead just $1. So everyone's situation is different so if these items do mean that much to you then i would say running the safer than sorry card would be better than the it could possibly work as it worked for others card.

^ Interesting! I did not know that Disney put the FULL amount on hold. That's kind of a lot for a hold. Luckily over at Sideshow it's either no deposit or a 40 dollar one, which isn't too bad.

Definitely right about rather being safe than sorry. Purchasing items on the aftermarket is no fun.

Oh man, I didn't get a chance to order the mugs back in 2011 and I always wanted the Cinderella and Rapunzel ones, but I'm kinda glad I didn't get them. I finally bought the Rapunzel one last year even though I wasn't fond of the artwork for her, and the Snow White one when I went in to get the Frozen mugs. I like the tall latte style mugs the best, but I also have teacup shaped ones, a Belle and Cinderella, my one sister has the Ariel one and my other sister has the Aurora one. I like those ones a lot too. Mostly I just have a large collection of random Disney mugs, my cupboard can't fit them anymore!

Yeah it is a lot but when you think about it you are buying 5 LE dolls at $129 (plus tax) each so it is sort of expected, I know last year at the expo you had to pay upfront, there was no hold it was pretty much pay upfront or nothing. But it was good because that just meant come the release day it was already paid for. Besides they put the funds on hold but then release it after about a week or two and then will put the funds on hold again closer to the release date.

This doll season is going to be expensive, I am already expecting to spent about $900 on the dolls, mugs and journals which is a lot of money to spend at one time but yeah that was the same last year so I was expecting to have to spend that much again this year.

I was debating preordering all of them to ensure I get Cinderella and Aurora, but I don't want to go through the hassle of trying to sell the other 3 afterwards. I'd rather just try for them on their release days and then maybe offer to trade an Ariel for Cinderella if I'm unlucky

Thus far I've only ordered the set of designer villains, and some of them were up for quite awhile before they sold out. I ordered them at midnight and when they were still up like weeks later I was thinking "Aw man..." to myself xD

Did the other designer fairytale dolls sell out super quick?

Depends on which doll and if it was the 2011 or 2013 line. Ariel was the fastest to sell out last year as she was gone in less than a half hour

Oh wow xD that is quick

Was their server hammered? That's the most frustrating thing ever lol

I'm probably planning on just buying Aurora to go with Maleficent, but Cinderella might look nice too...

It wasn't too bad. I think if you have your account on the site with your shipping and billing information added in beforehand it's a lot quicker. The worst was in 2011 when they decided to release the last 5 (Rapunzel, Aurora, Jasmine, Tiana, and Pocahontas) at the same time. Most people still refer to that as Dollmageddon lol. The web site crashed a million times and it was frustrating trying to get one doll in your cart, let alone all 5

You will have a better chance getting these dolls the night of the release as opposed to preordering the entire site. To be honest I do not think they will sell out that fast. Ariel is by far the most popular and she sold out in under an hour, followed by Belle who was also a bit under an hour. I think that will be the case for Cindy and Aurora as they appear to be the most popular of the set. So I think if you are on for the release from midnight then you will have a good chance. Don't forget these are going to be LE 6,000 which is one thousand more than the frozen LE dolls that came out in March and even they took about 30-45 minutes to sell out and they are more popular in comparison to these dolls.

Honestly if you only want one or two dolls then you should just leave the set for those that want the whole set just because buying a set will be more limited as opposed to buying the dolls individually.

The designer fairytale dolls did not sell out that fast, the Ursula LE doll sold out the fastest selling out within 20 minutes of release. With the fairytale dolls I believe the fastest was Ariel at around 35-40 minutes followed by Belle who was around the 45-50 minute mark.

No issues with the website because DSUS updated their servers after the whole dollmageddon fiasco back in 2011. What was funny was that some dolls did take a while to sell (even Ariel who is the most popular in the series) but it was not until they did the release where they released the final five at the same time where it caused the servers to crash as the website could not handle the amount of traffic. Nowadays they have vastly improved it so you shouldnt have any issues so long as if you have fast internet access.

Very true, and I completely forgot that these were LE 6000, I kept thinking 5000 for some reason. And I think I'm pretty quick in getting the dolls, usually within 6 minutes of them being put on the web site. I only ever buy for myself so I dislike taking a set away from someone who wants the full set and then having to try and sell the others afterwards too. I imagine selling would be more annoying in Canada since nobody in the States wants to pay import fees and whatnot.

Haha I remember in 2011 Ariel being on the website for a week! I had only learned about the dolls when Cinderella was being released. I went through and decided which ones I wanted for my birthday (not Ariel). I ordered Cinderella and then later changed my mind and decided I wanted to order Belle and Ariel together to save on shipping. Of course by the time Belle came out, Ariel was sold out. Boy did I ever kick myself after that xD I keep thinking about how I really want that 2011 Ariel too, even though I don't think she's that special (I like so many more in that series better) but I think it's because I decided I would go ahead and get her and then she sold out and it costs a lot to get her now. Oh well, I have the DFDC Ariel and I think she's much prettier than the 2011 one. And Ariel is one of my least favourite princesses so I guess I better take a leaf out of Elsa's book and let it go ;)

It just sounds like to me American customers are kinda lucky when it comes to getting the LE dolls, I tried to get the march Anna and Elsa dolls, I went to a Disney store that was a bit further than my local one who told me not to bother going to the store to get the dolls on the day of release as the store would only have 6 and staff wanted them, so I tried on the website on the day, I was on my computer at 6 in the morning waiting for 8am, and when it was 8 in the morning the website kept crashing and hardly anyone got them, we don't have pre ordering in the UK for these dolls, you just have to be really lucky!

So I am a total newbie all around. I have never replied to a thread or to anything like this before, but I have to try my best to get the complete set of these gorgeous dolls! I only have 3 of last year's sets and missed out on Ariel and Rapunzel because I refuse to pay eBay's marked up prices. I am flexible but $100+ over list is a little ridiculous to me. Unfortunately, I just learned about these dolls this year when I purchased my Tink doll. :(

Anyway, I saw last year's pre-order set sold out sooo quick. Has anyone had problems checking out quickly with the paypal feature? Just wondering if I should have my credit card ready instead of going through the checkout with my paypal account. I don't want to have the dolls in my cart and then removed like other people had done to them last year. This is way too stressful...

^ Just from my personal experience of buying items online overall, having a credit card saved on a website's billing information page is probably your best bet. Paypal will require you to be diverted away from the original website onto Paypal's site where you have to log in and select payment = extra steps. If you already have a DS account, saving your shipping and billing information there ahead of time makes check out faster.

This is the best way to do it, imo. You can set up your billing and shipping addresses ahead of time and then save your credit card information. It will ask you for the code and your account password before you hit submit and that's the only real typing you have to put in aside from your discount code for free shipping (if you're shipping to a US address anyways). All in all, takes about a minute or so. And Disney never displays your credit card number except for the last few digits, and you still need to put in that verification code so it's pretty secure. I've had my account and credit card saved on there for 3 years, and I've yet to encounter any problems. Since then I've ordered the full DFDC set individually (I skipped out on the preorder because I was just gonna get Rapunzel but my self-restraint was terrible haha), the November LE Elsa, and LE March Anna and I've always gotten my dolls. I was online for the LE Ursula too, just to witness, but had I wished to purchase her, I would have been able to get her with a decent amount of time to spare. Honestly, if you're prepared and the website doesn't glitch, you should be okay. Keep an eye out for links and I recommend using google chrome for checkout (I've used it, firefox, and IE before and find chrome to be the fastest and most reliable). Worst comes to worst, you can always order them individually if you miss out on the preorder, all it means is that you have to stay up late once every 2 weeks. And welcome to the forum minibell :)

^ I haven't purchased dolls since the villains came out, TOTALLY forgot about the links

This forum is super helpful because simply going to DS.com and searching for the item at midnight didn't get me anywhere.

Links are key :D just watch out because the forum tends to get backed up a bit on release nights.

Polaris- you mentioned before about how the poses didn't match up with the last set of artwork and dolls. I know you collect every doll from each set but I was curious if you debox them at all to pose them however you want? I think drj1828 collects 2 of each and deboxes one and keeps the other mint, the crazy guy haha!

Hey guys! Iv been watching this page for a while and I think I want to start collecting the dolls however I'm a little confused? Where do you buy these dolls? Where do you pre-order them? And is there some type if release scedule?
Thanks :)

I believe that one you are in the checkout process and entering your paypal details then it will allocate the stock to you. Just be aware you must use a paypal account based in the US.

As others have recommended using a credit card is faster but the good thing about paying with paypal is that they charge you then and there, so you dont have to worry about holds on your account etc etc so that going forward you can just relax as the dolls would have been paid for already. Using a credit card they will take a hold on check out but then they will release it after a week or two later so that means if you use this money you will have to make sure you have enough again later down the track closer to release date.

Also last year it only sold out fast because the expo was on, which meant that the allocation of the set preorder was split between online and at the expo obviously giving more allocation to the expo, I remember the preorder lasted a while at the expo because it was a lot of money to put down upfront and most people did not want to do that.

So this year because there is no expo the entire preorder stock will be allocated to the online sales therefore giving you a greater chance at them, just make sure you are up at midnight and ready for them and I do recommend creating an account and having your details ready so that you can just select the options and check out as fast as possible. Good luck!
