All about Disney pin trading?

I just came back from my trip to disney world and discovered pin trading. At first I wasn't too into it but by the last day I had picked up 4 pins and a starter set/lanyard haha.
I started looking up some pins and discovered I really love pins and the concept of trading. Although I have a few questions...
1.) How do I know when LE pins come out and where do you generally find them (in the parks and downtown disney) are they in every store?
2.) How are people able to preorder pins online?
3.) What are PTD pins and how do you get them?
4.) Where can I find out pin events?
5.) on Instagram I see pictures of pin vouchers that say, "breakfast, pins purchased and PTD received"...how does this work and how do you participate?

Welcome to the fun... ok here are some of the answers..

Disney has a dite that gives you release dates and pins that are to come out on that day... I will have to get back to yiu on the site address once I get home. This is also where they announce pin events.

Ptd-stands for pin trader delight. . They are available at Ghirardelli/Disney studio store on Hollywood boulevard with the purchase of a specific sundae. Right now they are out of stock... but the waut can get very long. Once a month they akdo put out a flyer that shows what pins they are releasing.. you find that on Facebook or here. Thet also host events.

I don't deal with instagram so someone else can field that one please.

For in-park releases, you can go to this site and look:

http://www.disneyparksmerchandise.com/pins

It's also the site that gives you information about upcoming pin events.

For the other locations and types of pin releases, places like this are usually the best. Traders will post things like scans of flyers (especially from the Soda Fountain store, or Paris).

Disneystore.com used to do a weekly releases, and they still do occasional releases, but not very often. Finding out what they're releasing was always a little tricker. Some people found some tricks, but I never heard what they were (probably something to do with hunting down the hidden URLs). It's not such a big deal anymore, what with releases being so few and far between.

2.) How are people able to preorder pins online?

The only pre-orders I know of are actually just Traders/Re-sellers who know they're going to be there for releases, so they're pretty sure they'll have the pins to sell. Just be aware that most of these sellers are offering them at an evaluated price. Disney doesn't offer pre-orders, to the best of my memory.

3.) What are PTD pins and how do you get them?

Already answered, but they're Pin Trader's Delight- you get them with sundaes you buy at the Soda Fountain store. Tough to get (they're currently "in"). Unless you're actually at the store in Hollywood, online on places like eBay or here are the only way to get them.

4.) Where can I find out pin events?

Once again, places like this forum. Or the link above, for official events. We used to have Pin Trading Nights monthly, but now we're lucky to get them 4 times a year.

5.) on Instagram I see pictures of pin vouchers that say, "breakfast, pins purchased and PTD received"...how does this work and how do you participate?

Hi ya Everything_Alice! Welcome to DPF!! Lots and lots of very nice people here ... oh and we're all a bit mad about pins too! :lol:
