Following is a personal opinion. :p

I picked this up last week and was so disappointed that it really annoyed me!

pin101369
Pin 101369: Cheshire Magic Slider

Looks like a nice rack pin, doesn't it? Decent size, good image, nice frame.

Only problem is - the Cheshire "slider"... is a piece of cardboard paper! Like I could tear it off if I'm not really careful!

I couldn't believe it when I got it in hand - the pin itself is lovely - heavy, nice detail on the frame - but instead of being a metal/pin slider piece, it's just paper?!

Grr. Every time I look at that poor pin, I'm just annoyed. Because it could have and should have been terrific - if it were a full pin rather than glossy cardboard paper stuck inside a pin!

I wonder if it was an issue with the effect? Like the ink/plastic or whatever they use to make the disappear/appear thing happen, they couldn't get it to work with metal in the earliest versions? Regardless, I'm sorry the pin is not what you expected!

I was not terribly disappointed as I actually love tiny pins, but I once bought I pin I thought was a full sized pin and had my heart set on where it would go in my pin book, and when it arrived, it was TINY. Normally a very positive thing to me, but because I had envisioned something else I was pretty sad.

I agree. I have a similar D23 pin with Dumbo that is the same way. It feels so cheap with the cardboard.

I agree, that pin would be so much nicer in metal. It IS a nice looking pin and if I was a Wonderland collector I would consider it a nice pin in my collection.
I get really annoyed when the pin has the characters badly drawn or the colors are wrong. In most cases I just pass on it, but for the couple of "completist" collections I have, I do suck it up and add it to the collection. lol.

^ Yeah, the problem with being a completist is I need it whether I like it or not. :p

Fortunately there really are only a handful of pins in my collection that frustrate me - the rest of those annoyances generally due to bad artwork. :D

I just was so disappointed when I realized the slider was paper and not metal! It would have been gorgeous in metal, though as someone noted, that may not have been possible for the "magic" effect of the pin for whatever reason.

Still, I don't like worrying that a pin is so delicate I may tear it! :p

Love the idea of this pin, with only cheshires mouth showing .... its meant to be one of those magic writers, where you slid the sheet in and out to erase, so you can start over isint it? They have just a sheet of covered cardboard, and are rather flimsy themselves.

I would be disappointed, too. That "looks" like such a cool pin.

I've never been disappointed so far, other than maybe surprised that one of my pins was smaller in person than it looked online. My very first pins were a bigger size and I started off thinking that all pins were about the same until then.

I am in the Printing business. I believe that the effect that they have with the image turning black and white "in " the frame is a printing issue.

IF they did it on Metal,, totally different process, do not believe that they can get the effect.

Too bad, it ios a great looking pin. The whole series.
