Since I've already spent the vast majority of my pin budget for the year I thought I'd better find something to occupy my spare time .
I intend to photograph all my pins and upload the images to
http://www.pintradingdb.com/
I've tried to photograph my collection in the past but I keep getting blurry images or major shadowing . I'm going to invest in a tripod to stabilize the image but does anyone have any further tips or tricks for getting decent pictures . I'm going to use my reasonably new digital camera so hopefully this will help too .
Before I start though what image size /quality would be the best ? , I don't want to take hundreds of pics only for them to be too high res to be used .
Also I'm not certain of release dates etc for a great number of my pins , I assume I can upload an image with a relevant name but not fill in the rest of the information without it being a big problem .

Use a natural or soft lighting source, like an overhead long bulb with the light diffused or a lamp with a white sheet over it. Don't use flash. Make sure you keep your shadow out of the photo. Try to take the photo with the pin parallel to the lens, with the pin filling up as much space as possible. And don't forget to have fun!

The best photos I got were when the sun was coming in the window and I placed the pin
in the sun and took the photo. Not nearly as much reflection or shadow as a bright light
above the pin. Of course, I also have the same problem. My photos have issues as well.
Oh the other thing I do is use the "close up" flower thing on my camera (a macro) and it
helps too.

I've done quite a bit for pintradingdb.com and the best pictures I've taken have also been in front of window that gets sunlight (not direct). I place the pin on a solid black background (this works for most pins, some fade into the background if they're dark and I switch to wood).

If the sun is too bright on a particular day, I will place my body in between the pin and the window. Make sure your entire shadow covers the pin. Otherwise I sit to the side of the pin and let the light straight on it.

Hope that helps!

I've just read a similar post and I notice that they're trying to get full information on each pin listed . I simply don't have the necessary details for most of my collection so for now I'll stick to photographing my pins and leave the uploading to people with better knowledge than myself . Thank you though for the advice I'll try a few after work tomorrow and post my results .

You do realize I'm in the UK right , the temperature here at midday was 1C !!! Dull and overcast ;-)

As for the info on the pins.. if you put in as much info as you know... ie whatever is written on the pin and back of pin... pintradingdb has people like me that will edit in more info as it is acquired. Have fun photographing.

Thanks so much David for taking photographs! As Kristina mentioned, there are a few people who will go in and update listings. If you'd prefer just to take the photographs and not bother with the other details, you can let us know where the pictures are and one of us can upload the pictures directing to Pin Trading Database.

Most of the photos I've uploaded were taken with my iphone 4s that I then just email myself the pictures. :)

How do you guys know if a listing needs more information? Is each one previewed, or does someone have to make a note of it. If so, how? Thanks!!

We basically go through each listing to see what the description is. I've been fixing the PTD pins from DSF/DSSH because a lot of them just say PTD pin of x character.

Aw, you're no fun, it got up to 35 F here today. :) I think I saw the sun. :)

I hope that people start using this I like the layout more than pin pics I will try to add some pins this weekend thanks for all your work!

I just starting using this database last night. I love it. Great job. I have some pins that I will photograph too help out. :)

Just a reminder, the new database is specifically for Disney pins only, no buttons please! At least not right now :)

Hey Li
I'm going to try uploading a few myself (16 down 2000+ to go :eek2:) hopefully I'll be able to increase my addition rate as I go .

It should have been more coordinated at the beginning than a free-for all. They should have lined up completionists and done their collections before the go-live date. I would have gladly given my complete photos of PTD's, Cars Land, Wreck It Ralph, Grand California Hotel, PODM's, etc. And made good headway on Star Tours, Space Mountain, Candlelight Processional, etc. Do it in chunks. Maybe make a shared photo hosting service like Flickr account for everyone. Then put folders where people can upload pins related to group XYZ. Load those in chunks.

We are just a few Pin uploads away from triggering the contest! Can we do it?

After work today I'll push us over the 5000 mark no problem :mickey2:
I've got the adding pins part under control now and I've "borrowed" my dad's laptop which speeds things up a lot , in case anyone wonders I do have better quality pins than those I've uploaded so far , I'm just working through my collection as I find them so I don't miss anything
