As I sit here stitching and pondering, I can't help but wonder. How do you all save money for your pins? I mean this can turn into an expensive hobby quickly from what I've experienced and seen. So many gorgeous pins! Anyone have any fun saving ideas? Anyone do devoted to their collection that they have a second job just for collectibles money? I'm not quite to that point but I'm getting there I think! Lol

I wonder this too! I have been very naughty lately and just keep spending money senselessly on pins when I really should be saving for my holidays.. I am going to have to start limiting myself to just buying the EU pin releases as traders and nothing else!! XD

I have been pretty good about not buying a ton as we're saving to get married at Disney in 2016! I've got a few little stitching jobs from family and friends for personalized stockings. They take me about 3 weeks to make. I've just been asking them to pay for the kit and if they can, donate a little to my grail fund. I've gotten between $5 and $40 and I appreciate every cent! Lol it all gets me closer to getting a new grail.

I was also really bad this year with spending money on pins. It is my goal next year to be very judicious. I plan to just put a limited amount of money each month into a separate account and will only use that account to purchase pins. If I don't have the money in the account I will wait on getting the pins.

Saving? What's that? :-P

I hope somebody posts with a brilliant idea. My problem is that pins are ONE of the items I "splurge" on ... so I always seem to be juggling what I'm focused on. Most of my Alice grails are older and therefore HTF / expensive, but I keep buying newer releases or finding other things I want and then a grail comes up and I have to choose: Lose out on it or toss it onto the credit card and *try* not to add any more charges to that card. #epicfail Ha. I should be better in 2015 but I somehow doubt that will work out the way I intend ...

I went a little crazy this Christmas. Somehow, buying Christmas gifts gives me that "fallen off the wagon" kind of feeling and the spending gets out of control. However, right now what I'm trying to do is limit myself to pickups of new pins, both to add to my own collection and to build up my traders. It's really hard to resist the older pins, though.

What I do is have a specific amount set aside from each paycheck to go into my "fun" account - specifically for pins, I have another amount set aside for vacations :)

Of course, I dip into the fun account more often than not :P

Similar to this, though I put the majority of my pay into my savings AKA "DO NOT TOUCH" account, and the leftovers are what I use for pins and other hobbies. Those leftovers used to fund a lot of different things, but this past year it has mostly just been pins, haha. I want to try to do better next year, but, you know...

I don't really save for pins, specifically. When I see a pin for sale and I want it and I have the money, I'll buy it. I just have a general "money for myself" savings account. I spend it on food, collectables, clothing, etc.

I breed rare frogs as my other main hobby so when I raise some frogs and sell them I usually put most of the proceeds back into the frogs and set a portion of it aside for pins or one of my other hobbies.

I really have gotten out of control with pin spending (Paula keeps saying no more right?). I did accomplish our goal though to finish up our sets, so technically we are at zero and have to figure out where we want to take it from here. Paula really loves Goofy so maybe she and I can go in that direction, while I will continue to keep after current AP releases.

I do a lot of trading with others local to the southern CA area, with most trades being initiated online via the PinPics TA. Without exception, these trades are only completed in person at one of the local Disney venues, when both parties are already there for other reasons. Most ofthe time this turns out to be at DSSH releases. This allows me to save the cost of postage and packaging.

A good idea!
