Their policies/rules change pretty frequently, so what applies now will not likely apply in November. You're best off watching the various PTD threads between now and then and checking in closer to your trip.
The studio store is where Disney releases there more rare pins (le 100's, 300's and such), it is located on Hollywood Boulevard in Hollywood. PTD are Pin Trader Delights. They show an assortment of characters holding things like soda's and ice cream cones. When you go buy a Pin Trader Delight (they are usually around LE 300-500) You get ice cream and the PTD of your choice that they have. (I think this is how it works).
Also just found out I might be going on Friday as well
Yes, checking back in closer to the date would be more helpful, because since I've been following the PTD craze over the past 16 months or so, the rules have changed about six or seven times, and the changes are always something new, not changing back to an older rule. There really isn't a "normal" for PTDs anymore.
That being said, if you do go on Friday, the current rules are that PTD sales will be between 1 and 8pm, and you can't start lining up for them until 12:30. And if whatever the current set is sells out after 5, there won't be a new set released that evening.
Wait a new set of PTD comes out on Friday? If so I cannot get any PTD since I will be getting to the studio store at about 9 AM, (I hope that is when they open)
The Disney Studio Store Hollywood doesn't open until 10 am. The PTD sales do not start until 1 pm. Since you are coming in November, the one movie release is Pixar's The Good Dinosaur on November 25 - Thanksgiving week.
If you also collect Hard Rock Cafe pins, the Hard Rock Cafe Hollywood Boulevard is right across the street.
So does the DSSH only offer PTD pins for current movies? Is that why you referenced The Good Dinosaur? And in the past they start selling at 1pm and continue until each series is sold out? Do they offer new pins every day? Each week? I'm kind of fascinated by offering pins with the purchase of ice cream! lol Is the Ice Cream good?
I think he mentioned the Good Dinosaur because there will likely be a pin release there coninciding with the film's release.
PTDs are released when all of the pins from the previous set of PTDs sell out. I always check the Disney Studio Store fb page for the most recent info.
Thank you so much for the info. Are these only offered in WDW HS or do they sell PTD at other parks, too? Are you limited to one per purchase or per guest? (I have two children, but if there's a limit of 1 it's alllll mine!! lol)
Edited: So...I just figured out that these are sold at the El Capitan Theatre in Los Angeles. Highly unlikely I will make it to LA ever in my life! lol It still sounds like an amazing idea and I can see why they are so popular if it is so challenging to get them!
Yeah, I did some digging and figured it all out. The Ghirardelli store in Hollywood is the only location. They posted a picture of the rules for Saturdays release on their FB page and it's pretty insane. Pretty sure you have to live fairly nearby and be totally dedicated to this in order to go through that mess for a pin. The Ice Cream Cone Hot Air Balloon pins scheduled to release on 7/25/15 are some of the cutest pins I've ever seen, but I think someone might get hurt that day! They have to hire extra security for these events, right? People lining up at 1am? You must be in line by 5:30am in order to get a chance at a wristband? And being in line doesn't guarantee you a pin? Apparently 1200 people showed up for the last release. Insane!
DSF/GSF is a joke these days with their rule changes. You need a degree in annoying hyper irrational retail failure just to figure out what they are thinking.
