Post broken on holy grail pin. Sell AS IS? or fix and sell as damaged?

My daughter is selling off her pin collection and had a buyer for holy grail Pin 32307 Disney Auctions (P.I.N.S.) - Seasons - Belle (Summer). As she was getting ready to package it for shipment, the pin fell and one of the posts broke. Do you think she should try to sell AS IS? Or attempt to repair it and sell as damaged? Opinions please. Thanks!

Argh sympathies to your daughter, that must have been very frustrating. I think maybe sell 'as is', perhaps the buyer would feel more secure fixing it themselves? Then again they might not have a clue.... :s I'm honestly not too sure, hopefully more experienced people here will offer better insight. My gut is saying to sell it 'as is' though. I agree - I'd sell 'as is' but it depends on the buyer. Personally I don't have the hands, experience or materials to fix a pin and definitely not a grail level pin. But a lot of experienced traders might prefer to do it themselves or ask someone professional they know to do it. Best of luck ! Olivia

Usually when doing "as is" i feel that people devalue a pin as opposed to it being fixed, however the safer way to go would be selling as is. I feel like people come back with problems or issues with a "fixed" pin rather than one they purchased and fixed themselves. Sorry that happened to you two >_<

Thanks for the advice. That's the way I was leaning as well. So sad because she's really strapped for cash and that would've helped a bit and I'm sure it probably broke the buyer's heart as well.

Definitely an "as is" sale. Take pictures of the broken post/snapped off post.

Though I see you've decided already, I agree with the as-is. But I also thinking was fortuitous in a small way. Since it is a big deal pin, if I was the buyer and it broke as soon as I got (if the post back was all ready weak) I'd have been ticked off and may have thought this hadn't been disclosed. Of course, if it's a super grail sort of pin, the buyer might just say, hey, lower the cost some and we still have a deal. I'd be ok with that as a buyer, if it was a pin I was jonesing for and it was hard to find.

Good luck with the sale! Agree with the others about selling "as is". I don't know much about those particular pins, but if they are really as big of a deal as they sound, perhaps the potential buyer will still take it at a reduced price. I also have personally bought a damaged pin because it was very hard to find and one of my grails, so it does happen!

I have at least three grail-level pins I can think of off the top of my head in my collection that have repaired posts because that was the only way I could get the pins. One was already repaired (and this was disclosed) when I got it, one broke in my possession when pulling it off a board and I fixed it, and the third came with a missing post and again I fixed it with a replacement post. My fix-it jobs ain't pretty but if it's the only way I can have the pin, it is what it is.

That's aside from at least one other rare pin with a pretty glaring paint error which again, I opted to keep and have "something" than have nothing at all. And that was a factory paint error, so...

That said, I would hope someday to replace all such pins with undamaged pins but in the meantime, I'm VERY happy to have these at all in my collection.

Did she contact the buyer and explain what happened ?
I know a grail level pin like any of the seasons is really hard to find so whilst I wouldn't pay the previously agreed price I'd probably still settle on a lower amount .
I actually just bought a grail pin damaged via eBay , it was declared clearly in the listing and since it hardly ever shows up I took the risk . I'm going to be framing it anyways so a damaged post is the least of my worries .

Once on a board the replaced/fixed pin posts don't matter because no one sees them and the board looks great! Though I totally understand the desire to replace them, I agree it's much better to have a "damaged" pin than none.

When I first started seriously collecting many years ago, I had an ongoing thread where I'd post updates of my collection. But that was many moons ago...

But it is definitely on my "to-do" list. I have this idea in the back of my head that if/when I ever hit "complete" on my collection (and hopefully that's not too far away since I'm only missing half a dozen pins or so), then I will go through and take pics of everything and yes, I do plan to share them at some point.

Yes, she immediately reached out to the buyer who initially said they'd take it for 50% off but then I guess they thought better of it and decided not to complete the purchase. Completely understandable. Thanks all for the replies!
