Has this happened to you - missing package??
Just a suggestion. I know that one has to pay for these, but I am wondering if it might be worth your investment to get a PO Box. Would that be a safer bet than a possible "mix up" in an apartment building complex??

At any rate, I certainly hope you get your packages! Good Luck! :)

Might be, but I have a PO box and that's what happened to two packages. Showed as delivered when they weren't in the box and neither was a key to a larger box (the PO will put a larger package into one of their boxes and leave the key in your PO box). But, at least, they can track it within their office versus having to wait until the mail delivery person returns.

Does your apt complex have multiple buildings?

Sometimes apts are addressed as Building A - Apt 10 and then there is also a Bldg B- Apt 10.

Just wondering if there are similar apt numbers in multiple buildings?

Sorry if this is no help and I certainly do not mean to annoy by brainstorming like this.

Many years ago as a student I lived in a complex with several buildings that had a different building numbers, but each building had same apt numbers.

The apartments where live have building and street numbers.
I live in building 6, street number 12048, apt #6104.
I used to live in building 26, street number 600, apt #26202. (I downsized)

Yes I went to the post office yesterday and they made compies of the DC papers I printed and left a note for the supervisor of the Anex.
They also advised me to make a claim. So I did.

This has happened to me a lot of times the past 5 months. The post office is like entering the Twilight Zone for me. My old mail carrier retired, and for the last 5 months, I have a new one, who leaves all my pin packages with different neighbors, even when they have DC. So the person who sends me the pin thinks I got the pin, when in reality, it was delivered to my neighbor. I have been very lucky in that my neighbors are honest and bring it over. By the way, the same thing happens in reverse, meaning I get their mail and have to take it to them. We have gone to the post office to complain at least 8 times and it keeps on happening.

Recently, a package was sent to me from Paris and it was sent registered mail, so I was supposed to sign for it. You would think that would be safe, right? Well, the infamous mail carrier delivered it to a lady that had not moved in yet, so it sat in her mail box for over a week. In the meantime, I see the package as being delivered, and wonder how this could be when I did not sign for it. Can you guess the outcome? My mail carrier delivered it to her, for another one of his mistakes is not paying attention to what kind of service they are supposed to be providing. He just stuck it in her mail box with no signature. Finally, this new neighbor brought it over, so I got my pin, and then explained it all to the person who sent it. We took the envelope to the post office, showed the supervisor, and he apologized once again, but our mail carrier continues do to as he pleases, simply because he is getting away with being sloppy.

However, there was one envelope I did not receive that showed delivered. There is no way I could hold the person who sent me the pins accountable for this when I know my mail carrier and the whole post office that services me is to blame.

This is pretty much what is going on here.
I moved to Orlando in Dec. 2009 and have lived in the same complex since then. Only difference is I moved from one side of the complex to the other. The mail carrier we had either retired or something, as he no longer brings our mail. When he was running our route our mail came around 2-2:30pm and I NEVER had problems with packages not making it to me.

Now we have this new guy, well actully 2 new guys and the mail gets here around 4:30-5pm and I have missing packages. This bothers me as, I am not only pin trading I am preparing for a wedding and am worried if anyone sends anything to me it could get lost.

I have complained everyday since these packages have gone missing, except the weekends when noone answeres the phone of course.
The carrier is really rude, and I question how he delivers mail, as when he arrives he parks his truck and opens EVERY box and then walks back and forth as he puts the mail int he boxes. Anyone can walk up and take the wrong mail. :(

This seems to be an ongoing problem with several post offices everywhere, and yours sounds like mine. They do not seem to care at all about the fact that I am not getting my packages. They also left a check with a large amount of money with someone else, because when I got home, the envelope was stuck on my entrance screened door. Had there been a lot of wind, it could have blown away, so this was scary. We have filed claims, gone there in person several times, and are now looking at finding the head of this organization to let them know how terrible our post office is. If I were you, Paul, I would do the same thing, because you can almost bet on the fact that you will not get all of your wedding presents if they are shipped to you.

There is also no excuse for your mailman being rude to you, and I would report this also. By the way, our mail gets delivered between 4:45 and 5 now, so also late in the day, as sompared to our old mailman. It seems to be a pattern that is spreading, so we need to go to higher ups to try to correct our problems. I will try and see if I can find who to complain to. There is no point in calling the phone number for the general post offices to complain there, because they do not do a thing. This is so very frustrating for pin traders, because we will not always get our pins. That is why I cannot fault the person that sends them if they show delivered. I automatically know that the mailman delivered it to the wrong place.

We had a problem in our last place, but thankfully not with pins it was only with my 3 monthly delivery of contact lenses - they wouldn't fit through the letterbox so the postman used to put it in the recycling bin without leaving a note or telling us he was doing it!

I don't think some post men realise how important their jobs are to keeping things running. Others are great and do a fantastic job.

I hope you find your pins soon :)

I just checked and found out that we are basically doomed. As you know, the government is no longer in charge of the post office, so the recommended thing would be to call the Postmaster General, which will probably mean leaving a message, but you can also write to him. If you are interested, the address is:
Jack E. Potter
Postmaster General
U.S. Postal Service
475 L'Enfant Plaza, SW
Washington, DC 20260-0010

contact by email: pmgceo@usps.gov

I am thinking of e-mailing him today with my set of problems. Hope this helps us in some way. Well, it can't get worse.

I have had a similar experience with packages not showing up here and being allegedly delivered,

I know have a flag set up with both my post office and DHL that if a packet comes in,

it is to be held at the local office and a notice of delivery is issued,

That way I can go and collect it and it not there responsibility if it goes in the wrong mail box.

hey...just trying to help.. i read a post that said another member had got a box with 6 pins.... they dont know who they are from or for... i see you said you are missed 5 pins... mayb the box is the one you need but they gave u a extra pins..... it may not be the same box...but mayb its worth checking....if sum one sent a bunch of things out the same day...mayb there was a mix up or sumthing.... if not....mayb sum one eles will read this and find the box they are missing.

I haven't had this particular problem, but more than once Alice pins I was purchasing here on the boards (only Alice pins, go figure haha) showed they were going everywhere BUT NJ. One went to PR twice before finally being delivered here, and the second time the pin traveled around CA for a while before going to some random state and then being delivered.

I always get nervous when I trade because I'm afraid that my pins won't make it. My mailman though does occasionally deliver our neighbor's mail to us.

Brittany,

I think your Alice pins will soon be joined by other pins :( I had sent you a pIF pin on Saturday. Look what the DC# shows now:

Well, copy & paste from USPS web site did not work too well, but you got the idea. For some reason that is known only by USPS (or maybe not even by them) the package is stuck in Boise, ID. Go figure!! This is starting to get tooooo frustrating :(

Ok a quick update.
Today is the 48hour mark, I still haven't recieved a call from the PO reguarding my claim.
I did call the local anex again and spoke to a supervisor. He took some information from me and told me he would speak with my carrier. He was to instruct the carrier to check ALL boxes for returned pckgs and the locker boxes that they leave large pckgs in. If my pckgs aren't recieved by Friday, July 29th I am to goto the USPS website and file a lost/stolen mail claim.

Hey Paul,
That sounds better than what I have been told. My post office told me that I had no claim whatsoever, because it was not an insured item. Please keep us posted.

I have had packages show up a month later than they should have, because they have bounced from one post office to another and got farther and farther away in the process. So there is always hope that someone returned the package to the post office and then they will process it again.

If you do not get a decent response from all of your efforts, please report your problem to the postmaster general. It needs to be reported, or else it will keep on happening. Good luck!

I happend to have the best postman ever. He finds my packages if they go astray and if I'm not home, leaves me a note in my mailbox that they on inside the screen on my front porch. I think I'm going to move if he ever retires. We can always tell when he is on vacation or taking a day off because the mail doesn't come until after 4:00 PM. And he is close to retiring. He found a package that had gone astray after it was missing for almost a year. He never stopped searching for it. Hope you get your pins and Maria is right, report him.

Well this has happened to me. Never thought it would happen. Did a trade with someone got that package but then I saw one of his that caught my eye and he said he would trade that pin so we decided what one of mine I would trade and he sent the package and it hasn't gotten to me yet. I told him that it may have gotten lost on its way to me. So we are talking about a different one of his for mine. Cause I think it would be unfair that we don't follow through with the trade.

Hi Margaret,

I used to be as lucky as you for most of my pin trading life here. My mail carrier was a lady and she was so wonderful. I really miss her. I always thought like you do, in that if she ever retires, I will move. Well, guess what? I didn't move and am now paying for it. Her replacement is your worst nightmare. Hope your guy does not retire too soon. He sounds like e very caring person. Lucky you!!!

Ok, I finally got a call from the PO claims office.
They said the packages were delievered to the wrong address and returned to senders on Wednesday.
I hope they make it back to the correct senders, so that we may be able to get this straightened out. :-)

I am keeping my fingers crossed for you and your senders to get the packages back safely. I hope this will be a heads up for your mailman.

I am almost glad that I started this thread, lol!

I am glad you did.
As I see that I am not the only one dealing with this issue.
If the pckgs had not been found, I would have been forced to file an inspection claim for stolen mail and also write the post master.
