Hello all,
Looking to potentially purchase a large collection of 1000 pins or more from a friend who is no longer collecting. They are a mix of older pins many rack, LE, DA, DS, jumbo etc. Just a mix of everything.
Any tips for determining a purchase value for the pins? Seems overwhelming to look each one up on pin pics, check eBay value etc.
For those that buy collections - any rough guidelines to use (i.e. $x for each rack pin, $x for each LE, etc)?
Just trying to figure out what is fair so that seller (and buyer i.e me!) are happy!

It's really impossible to put a generic value on pins because they are worth different amounts due to popularity of the pin. I wouldn't want to say all rack pins are valued at say $5 because some may sell for more and some may sell for less, that is actually true though for any pin limited edition or not. Good luck on your purchase and like you said, it's all good as long as both of you are satisfied with the final selling price.

Thank you Tbird and BilgeRat! I understand that there is no generic formula that you can use in all situations.
Thanks for the link to the previous thread. Very helpful!

If it's your friend, I would just ask them what they're looking to get for it and haggle from there. Unless they're counting on you to make the first offer, and then do that. Honestly, for a collection of that size, you're looking at a bulk price which is anywhere from $2-10 per pin. I would take a look at the ratio of DA/Jumbo/LE smaller than 1000 to other pins. If it's more than 1:1, I would offer in the $8-10 per pin range, if it's less, I would offer in the $3-5 range. Add on super extra special LE 100 pins separately at maybe 1/2 what they're worth on eBay.

Thank you, that's incredibly helpful. I would say the collection is about 5% DA/Smaller LE pins, which would put it in the lower end of the price range. That's about what I was estimating.
There aren't any low LE100 pins in the collection which makes it easier (though I wish there were!).

I'm glad I could help. I've only bought two collections before (one more recently of all Ariel pins, yay!!), so I'm not the best source. But then, I'm of the mind that a collection is only worth how much the buyer is willing to pay for it.

If you have pictures of the collection I'd be happy to tell you what I'd offer (since my 'still current' advice was linked I haven't commented :)) I've purchased several collections of different sizes

Thanks! I finally had a chance to look through some of them. Here is Chip and Dale collection. Any advice on value would be greatly appreciated!

Are you looking to use them as traders or to sell them? Dollar values are very low right now.

Currently these aren't mine - they are a friends. I am trying to figure out fair value for them as I am planning to make an offer for some or all of them.
I uploaded about 3/4 of the collection. There are another 300 or so that didn't get photographed.
Any advice is appreciated. Not looking to resell them - not worth the effort to me. Would keep some and use the rest as traders. As you can see, most are older pins.
By the way, Kiragigi I have 93215 and the other 3 in that set. They are one of my favorite pins so unfortunately not trading them. However, I agree they are incredible!!

There Are about 10-15 you'd get high value for.

The rest you'd be lucky to get $4-5 more likely $2-3 each in lots as they won't sell individually (believe me I've had a nice chunk of those they don't trade and don't sell)

if if it was me buying I'd be maxing my offer at $3 each cause you'll be sitting on some of those forever...

I second Lisa's comment, there are a few I'd be willing to purchase/ trade for if you decide to purchase. Our PinPics is Dizfan.

It's a nice collection....Good luck with your decision :wavey:
