Yeah, I'm not in love with it either... I've never really liked live action pins, overall.

I think that's my general opinion as well. LA pins seem restricted in their design and while the book itself is lovely, the flat dimensions of the overall pin are kinda bland. :/

Most of the LA pins are kinda meh (and I say this as a LA Cindy collector--they did muster some gorgeous pins for that, although they tend to be the ones that don't focus on people, like the carriage or the shoe). But on the flip side, I've concluded the opposite about Funko Pops: I love love love most of the ones based on real people / LA characters, but the animated ones creep me out. Ha.

No, this is part of the "Now playing" series that they do for each big release at the El Capitan.
This is a different sundae and pin to the PTDs.

I think these would be better than the book Opening Day pin for sure, hahah! But I don't think they're ptd level, but not a terrible investment either. Especially for non-local people.

That's nothing new, unfortunately.
Getting good traders can be very difficult for people not in CA since we mostly have to rely on the resell market or lucky pickups.
