So, PinPics kicked off its annual sponsorship drive (was $175 to sponsor, now it's gone up to $225 to sponsor and that's for the gold level) and it looks like they have a few more sponsorships available.

Is anyone here sponsorsing PinPics this year? I noticed that one of the changes they made (for the LE100 sponsors) is that one doesn't have to buy every single pin that comes out anymore.

Gold Level sponsors get to purchase these 5 pins at $150 each (only if buying all 5, otherwise they are $175 each), plus tax & shipping.

Gold and Silver sponsors get these LE300 pins for "free" as part of their sponsorship:

If these two round pins look familiar, it's because they were part of the Golden Magic series of pins that were supposed to be released last year (they were pre-sold in September or October of last year) and were subsequently cancelled because these two pins didn't get cleared by Disney. The other 3 pins in the set were already sold so these are being released separately.

What do you think of the sponsorship (if you've already purchased it)? What else do you get?

It's really hard to tell how these pins are gonna turn out. The only reason I'd get one is to get the Ariel pin. $400 is a lot for one pin. I've only spent $100 on two pins before, never over that. Unless they are so amazing I can't live without it, I'll live without it. A lot of times ACME's pins interpret their source material strangely.

As I also understand it, you get first dibs at tables for being Gold, but I already bought a table for Thursday night because of their pin boards.

Seconded. ACME has made some gorgeous pins, but the retail costs are exorbitant. And with these preview images, it's very difficult to decide how these will be translated onto the pin itself. Each of the nouveau style pins look like they were designed by five different artists all using different art styles. (Now, they may turn out to be gorgeous, but to me the cost isn't worth the gamble.)

^^this exactly. I was briefly considering a sponsorship or just to buy the Belle pin for sis but she says it's not worth it to her.

Plus I still remember the maleficent dragon, how she was going for $500-1000? And now it's down to like $300.

I went last year and it was a complete waste of money. I spent a lot of money and I decided I did not like those super huge pins. I could barely sell them for retail.
Lee actually helped me with a pin game and the grand prize was the Acme Beauty And The Beast pin.
I sent my points in at a much later date and it was a nightmare for pin pics to find my numbers. I got chosen once since, never got an invoice. Now I'm being told because I didn't pay for a $20.00 pin, I am no longer eligible. Really!
Now they have raised the price $50.00 for gold sponsors. No thank you

While I think the princess pins will be lovely, I don't think they're worth the money or worth the sponsorship. And it's not like I don't pay for premium membership for certain websites, it's more that one has to do a cost/benefit analysis and this seems to fall firmly in the cost camp.

Nope. Nope. Nope. I'm soooooooo over Acme. I will *never* purchase directly from pinpics/Acme again. Still waiting on pins I purchased that were supposed to be for the October 2016 event, and for a refund on pins that I purchased that were never manufactured. Add to the fact that one can purchase their pins on the secondhand market for pretty close to retail, I don't see any benefit to sponsorship.

Yikes! That sounds terrible!

I bought the sponsorship last year and also decided it was not worth it. Too expensive and the pins don't trade well or at all really. I am considering the Pincon event for Thursday night, but will be playing in the parks the other 2 nights to make the most of my WDW park tickets.

Maybe one option is to co-op/split a sponsorship and pins... spreads out the cost, but still $150/pin +$$45 is too much...

Who did you purchase from? I know that for the October 2016 event in Anaheim, the pins finally got shipped last month (or maybe it was June) and refunds provided....finally!

If these were being sold as prints, I'd buy the Belle one in a heartbeat to hang on my wall. But as pins? Meh. How do you even transfer these designs to enamel? They're like watercolors; there's barely any line work. Are they more like buttons? (I've never bought from PinPics or ACME and have no idea what their pins look like irl.)

Each of the nouveau style pins look like they were designed by five different artists all using different art styles.

That's how I feel about these, at least when it comes to Rapunzel and Elsa. Their faces still look really CGI-ish in comparison to the 2D style of the others (and they've both been interpreted into 2D for other pins/merch and looked fine, so it's not like it can't be done.) Also they all have that hand-painted quality to them except for Elsa, which looks very Photoshopped and cheap imo. The school bus yellow for the border/snowflakes was a really poor choice... why use such a bright and warm color to go along with snow and ice? She's definitely the weak link of the set for me.

(I know I'm being really analytical lol but I'm an artist, so I kind of have to be, right?)

ACME pins are Pinpics' biggest scam. Who actually thought it would be a good idea to make a new category of massively expensive subscription based super jumbo pins? The pins are far too big, many of the characters are repetitive, the artwork for the most part is recycled, and it lacks a beneficial reason to purchase them all. The entire concept of this comes across as a greedy cheap knock-off of what Disney Auctions pins were but with a lot of added costs and obstacles.

I have always thought it was ridiculous to force people into an expensive subscription based program with the requirement that you must purchase all pin designs through your active sub. It's also crazy there is no rhyme or reason how or why certain designs are available through the program while others are withheld for who-knows-what random (insert Pinpics event). The whole process is an expensive game of control and manipulation creating artifical rarity and desirability. I am not even going to try and figure out the logistics of storage or travel. Or even the practicality of lugging them around to pin events.

With all the better options out there in regards to higher end pins to collect, these glorified fantasy pins aren't even in the same league as other stuff.

I suspect that's why they no longer require people to buy each and every pin when you have a subscription. I don't have a subscription as it seems pretty easy to find the majority of the pins at retail or just slightly above (like $50 more than retail)

Thanks for the info Lee. I was considering the sponsorship, but with my funds limited, I can't afford to pay for the 2 princess pins that I am interested in plus sponsorship. If done well, I know the pins would look beautiful, but $175 each plus $225 for sponsorship is too steep. Especially since I will not be attending the event. I may consider silver sponsorship, depending on the price, as I do like the Belle and Gaston pin.

Silver sponsorship is $100-ish, I think. But I'm pretty sure this Belle and Gaston pin will be less than that. A lot of these pins don't seem to retain their "value."

And welcome back Nessa! :)

OK, I know this is off-topic but is pinpics having a pin trading day this Sunday after the Love is an Adventure event? I seem to remember they did one last year, but I only found out about it the day before. Anybody know anything about a Sunday trading day? Thanks in advance for any information you can share!
