Holy Grail Mail!!!
I was planning to just post about this in Mail Days as per usual, but it's gonna require multiple gifs to truly express my happiness, and I don't want to clog up that thread. And anyway, a special pin calls for a special post...
So I was expecting this to come on Thursday, but when I checked the USPS tracking last night, I saw that the package had made it to my local post office ahead of schedule and would be arriving TODAY.
I had only just woken up when I heard the doorbell ring and literally could not run to the door fast enough! I signed for the package and darted right back to my room to open it immediately...
*drum roll*

So yeah, no big deal, I just finally got my holy grail is all.
This has been my #1 most wanted pin - the very first one I marked as a grail on PinPics - since I first fell down the pin collecting rabbit hole around a year ago. It is by far the prettiest pin I have ever seen!! Photos do not do it justice! I wish I could post a video so you could see how much it sparkles when it catches the light. I can't believe it's actually right here in front of me...
Seriously though. I pretty much never see this pin in anyone's traders, and the few that come up for sale are always way, way out of my price range.
But then last fall my guardian pin angel @Patronus posted a fortuitous sales thread, and lo and behold, there was my Megara Reveal/Conceal. Not only for $50 less than on eBay, but available to purchase using a PAYMENT PLAN!! Instead of plunking down hundreds of dollars on a tiny piece of metal like someone with a Scrooge McDuck money pool, I could make small partial payments at my own convenience (I believe her sales thread is still open, so go check it out!! She has lots of other rare pins.) Not to get all rant-y, but I really wish more sellers would allow this! They'd still ultimately get the prices they want, and people like me (working my way through college without financial support from parents) would actually be able to buy them.
All of this is to say, Patronus is simply wonderful, and I can't thank her enough for her patience over the past 3 months as I've sent her little payments here and there. I certainly have other grails that I hope to someday own (especially the matching Esmeralda R/C, which has now moved up to the #1 want spot), but I don't think any of them will top this awesome feeling. Maybe check back with me when the Meg and Esmeralda WDI Heroines drop. xD
Bonus: A side-by-side photo of my holy grail next to my very first pin ever, a humble little OE I plucked off a rack in Disneyland...
A couple of years ago my family was able to go to DLR for the first time since I was a little kid. We decided we would each get a pin to commemorate the trip, but I was having trouble finding the perfect one... I really wanted something from Hercules or Hunchback of Notre Dame, so needless to say, the pickings were slim. I had my fingers crossed that there would be a Megara pin somewhere in the parks, but after searching for 3 days, I was ready to throw in the towel. At literally the very last minute of our trip, while I was in the room packing, my little brother texted me from the hotel gift shop down below to tell me that he FOUND A MEG PIN. I still have the picture I took in excitement right after buying it!
Even though it's just an OE, it's still one of my absolute favorite pins for sentimental reasons. Like I said, I didn't truly fall down the pin rabbit hole until about a year after this, but it's definitely what kicked off the obsession. Seeing it next to my grail definitely makes me feel proud of the progress I made with my Meg collection in 2017 (I'll have to post a full pic in the Showroom sometime soon!), and makes me super excited to see how the collection will grow in 2018!!!
