Okay so i am stunned an auction i was bidding on i have no clue what in the world happened. There is a lengthy tirade about an infraction for bumping? And some other stuff. I am just stunned i was one of the leaders and now the person is saying he was offended by only 8 bids and he is refusing to honor the auction. I mean wow i have auctioned pins and not gotten near what i thought i would but hey its the chance you take right? I honor all lf my auctions. What really is getting me is i thought i had a good relationship with the person. Can anyone shed some light on what happened here? :(:(:(

I would suggest contacting a moderator to step in and figure out what went wrong. Hopefully it all gets fixed and everyone gets what they want.

It's sad that this is the case. I know in the past I have auctioned pins that I was hoping to get more for...but that' the risk you take with doing an auction in the first place. At this point, if the mods step in or not...even if it is now decided to follow through, I would hesitate sending my pin/s out in hopes that I would receive the auctioned item in return. :-(

I have gotten less and gotten more in auctions than expected. When you decide to auction something off you are basically saying that you are willing to let it go for whatever is offered. They shouldn't have just not honored the auction regardless of the bump issue. I was hit with a warning in an auction once and I didn't do anything wrong according to the rules. I wrote the moderator back defending myself but never stopped the auction. It sounds to me like the person didn't get what they wanted for their pin and used the Moderators as an excuse. Why else would there be comments about only 8 bids... the rules are the rules. They lean on the side of the bidder but if you want to play you have to abide by the rules

He is a very dear friend of mine. We spoke in great detail today in regards to this situation. It's not just about the auction, he really feels shunned and not wanted on the forum. While others do auctions, ( I will use no names because that is against policy) and gets many bids off their wants list, others put pins up for auction and get very little. It's very cliquey. I did an auction once and that was enough for me, I honored it regretfully. And would never do another. He collects the little mermaid and his pin is vey desirable. I think I saw perhaps one little mermaid bid. And like he said 800 views and 8 bids, but yet if one of the top members were to auction that pin off, they would have got loads of bids. He is aware that he will be now banned for this, but really does not care. He is not coming back. He has been hurt too many times and has had enough. On his auction page he apologized for the double post, wasn't a bump, he hurt his finger that he types with ( has stitches) and mistakenly hit post twice. The picture of his injury is on his facebook wall. It was a mistake and for that got an infraction even though he asked a mod to please delete the duplicate. I spoke to him and tried to get him to change his mind and stay, but his mind is made up. He feels shunned, unwelcomed and is very hurt . He rather leave than put up with the frustration and stress. I met him and his partner at the NJ event and he is genuinely a nice, kind, caring young man. We have plans to meet in October. I will miss him. It's sad how many members that we have loss because of feeling shunned.

Debi, I am sorry your friend felt shunned, but you only get out of this place what you put in. He seemed to have issues with everybody from the beginning. I was an outsider living in Seattle. I knew a few people when I got here and watched a lot before I jumped in with both feet. But I was by no means one of the clique you mention, your term not mine. As I got more involved I started to make friends here. I was not negative to people so I did not get negative reactions back. Your friend had several rants that I saw complaining about things here. I come here to have fun and meet great people. Maybe this place is not for negative people. I have seen a lot of rants about the cali people because they are lucky enough to live near DSF. I don't live anywhere near it and oh well that sucks for me.

Everybody needs to quit complaining about others here. If you are unhappy with where you live, move closer to the DSF, otherwise those are the breaks of where you live.

This can be a wonderful place if you have a nice or good attitude here. Let me state this again you get out what you put in!!!

Does being nice and positive mean you are going to get everything you want? NO!!! But you just might meet some very nice people who will help you out when they can. But you better be willing to help others when you get the chance.

Pin karma everybody!!!

I agree with some of the things he has said about auctions. I think there should be a possibility for reserves, and I think that if the auctioneer has to keep the auction open until it closes, then I don't think bidders should be able to retract bids. I don't like the lack of a reserve as an option, but that's why I don't do auctions. If you don't like the rules, don't play the game. I would have bid on his pin, but I already own it...

Having said that, I feel bad that he viewed this place as very cliquish and that he felt shunned. I live in TN so I'm not part of the Cool Kids Club in CA (which, I believe, was done tongue-in-cheek, but sure FEELS like a clique), and I don't get to hang out in Orlando either. However, I've always found that, in general, the community here has always been open and willing to help out a friend in need and just be friendly overall. I hope most of those currently on DPF feel the same.

I totally agree David. And I spoke to him many times even in his rant posts. I, myself, was like that at one time, but I have completely turned around. I know longer complain about the pricing for DSF Pins, if I want them I pay the price. I have been generously zapping and part of the RAK. I enjoy giving and when I go to WDW I will offer anyone pins at cost. I do believe in pin karma.

I saw the auction like most DPF members here. I did not bid on that Little Mermaid pin because currently I am focusing on other collections. That does not mean we as members have anything against the guy/girl. I do not know them so I have never had anything against them. Sometimes there are a lot of views because people are curious about an auction but still decide not to bid.

Most of my auctions are 24 or 48 hour auctions. I might get like three bids and maybe 60 views but as an auctioner I am okay with that. A weak turn out of an auction does not mean you are not popular, if that is the case then I am the least popular member here.

Please understand I was only explaining how he feels, I did not put it out there too hurt anyone's feelings. I, myself, have now made friends in So Cal and I pay the price and they are kind enough to me to allow me to make two payments if needed just so I can secure the pin and I truly appreciate their kindness. There are those that taunt me to just get a rise out of me, but I have learned self control and rather than flip out like I use too, I post nicely or ignore it. This is not about me anyway, as I said I was explaining this dilemma.

Although this person felt left out, it is no reason not to abide by the rules.

I don't like the idea that someone feels hurt or not welcome, but rules are rules. They are there for a reason.

The auction should be honored. Simple as that!

+1 :(
There is no reason for breaking the rules, and more importantly, no reason for such blatant rudeness, when generally this forum is full of nothing but kind, generous, and wonderful members.
I hope this is resolved for you soon, mad hatter!! Sorry to see you have to deal with something so difficult :(

You only get out of this place what you put in.

Exactly. Couldn't have said it any better. "You make your own bed"
People don't take well to being name called and accused and one shouldn't do it. If you have negative opinions then perhaps it's better discussed with friends via text and in private than on public forums and face book pages.
Alexandra is also right ... the fact that this person chose to just abandon the auction in the middle due to "not enough bids" is rude and quite frankly a slap in the face to the other bidders. It isn't shining a good light on the individual either. Rules are rules... you put something up for auction then you must choose a winner regardless of number of bids. I'm truly sorry to hear this happened Mad Hatter... Don't let it sway you from other auctions as this doesn't typically happen. Hopefully you get this pin soon!

I was bidding on this auction as well so I am disappointed that it wasn't until AFTER the entire auction was over that they decided they weren't going to honor it. I knew I probably wasn't going to win it but the fact that No One did really isn't fair. You would think that someone who was on the forum long enough would understand the risks of hosting an auction and hold up their end of the deal. I'm sorry they felt that way, but I agree that you do get what you put into it. I'm sure if I put more effort into talking more in the forums I could feel more a part of the community, but it's only on me that I'm not as active as others.

I see how you feel! I won an auction and didn't get contActed by the auctioneer so I finally pmed them and they said they traded it to the second place person because my inbox was full. I was so angry! They didn't even try to do a visitor message or post a thread or anything. Very disappointing. :(

I do not agree with the way this auction was ended, but at the same time I can't help wondering the purpose of this particular thread.

This person feels like he does not belong, he feels lonely and unwanted, and he expressed those feelings often. The very likely outcome of this thread will be that it adds to those negative feelings and thoughts, and he will be convinced that his decison to ditch the auction and forum was right.

Nobody really stands to gain anything. It is only loss at both ends :(

thank you tinkerbelle. you have always been a pleasure to deal with and I hope to see you soon in NYC! this is the guy who got the maleficent monorail at the jersey event. ;) but i'm here on a mission: so in the words of my favorite villain, "LISTEN WELL ALL OF YOU!"

I don't care what you guys say about me because I don't use this site as it is. I am his close friend. I have seen every bit of activity going on this page since we joined. I don't post or trade here cuz honestly, I don't like the gifting policy or the fact that you can send out pins and possibly not get the pin in return. anything I want, I buy; also for him. So...here's my two cents...

Mods: you guys need to get it together. an infraction for over posting on a public forum page...?! get a life. this and the other infractions he has received have no ground to stand on. this site isn't my life so if i get an infraction for this; kick rocks. all the rules aren't enforced and they are worded so vaguely that nobody can make them out. if mods would respond to messages as quickly as they throw out infractions, this site would be much better. get the owner of this page to update the rules and regulations in simple terms so that there is no future confusion. his hand is damaged and the request was sent to remove the double post....but was it done? NOT YET!!!! so before you throw out infractions, check your messages or the post!

madhatter: don't you ever come out like this again. i was helping him decide on who would go where on the leader board. the issue is not the auction results; but everything coupled with that. as mentioned, if any other high-profile member posted a trade, I GUARANTEE it would've gotten more bids. this auction was up for a week. no excuses. the bids were great from everyone....but I had a problem with people trying to offer so many things that wouldn't go to his collection; however nice they are. I may be a new trader and I've made a few mistakes at the event, but I've collected in many other categories outside of disney; so nobody here needs to tell me anything. I'm fed up with these people on this site. I don't post as it is, and my account will soon be deleted as well. I will say this to everyone : IF YOU WOULDN'T TAKE A CERTAIN TRADE YOURSELF, DON'T OFFER IT TO SOMEBODY ELSE! a lot of you offer lop-sided trades.

yeah...800 views and 8 bids...that's CRAP in my eyes. an ebay auction has a better ratio than this. the pins' rations are 18:201! some people literally pulled their bids before the auction ended. if it's ethics to trade with at least 1 buyer (which i think is another load of CRAP), then all of the bidders need to stay in. if i auction an LE 100 and only 1 person offers an open edition pin as my only bid...there is no way in hell I am going to honor that; regardless of what this forum says. they could've easily change their bids as described in the auction. i've seen other pins get crazy bids on this site. you can't enforce rules on me, my life, or how I act on this page...the worst you can do is give me an infraction and/or delete my post...whoopdie-doo!

bottom line: don't ever publicly attack my friend AGAIN for his decisions. this site is not my life or my world; so these rules are null and void to me at this point. i will quickly come out of my face to anyone who has anything negative to say. alot of you need to get off your high horses or i'll knock you off. It was situations like the one with 'eatinu' or whatever the your name is...you have some brass ones and i'll gladly kick them for you. After you promised him that Enchanted BT at cost if he helped you sell other pins to other buyers (and they were sold), you completely and utterly backed out of giving him the pin. Docfish pulled out the auction when he asked bidders not to w/o asking first. They broke rules should they receive infractions? everyone knows what you did if they read this. That's just 2 examples of what I call shady ethics on this site.

merryweather says it best actually. U all confirmed his feelings as he's seen this himself and not only is he leaving, but so am I!

Whoever you are, I don't really care, that was ENTIRELY uncalled for. BOTTOM LINE: Don't like the auction rules, don't put up an auction. ESPECIALLY one done seemingly for the sole purpose to see how much "people hate you" Yeah it was that transparent.

uncalled for:

shady traders
iffy infractions for mediocre reasons
"the cool kids club"
sharks
taxes
many many laws
etc. etc. etc.

life is full of uncalled for things. choosing not to honor the auction after the series of events took place: called for. how are you supposed to trade your pin without promoting it through frequent posts about the leader board and giving them the option to alter their bids if they chose to for reasons described in the auction?

the point of an auction is NOT to give up a rare pin to the community for less than what you reasonably expect.

the point IS to offer it to the chance at a rare pin so you get something you really desire within certain limits.

you would expect a better response; but at the least you would expect to NOT receive an infraction for actions that I thought were reasonable at the time to give everyone a fair chance.
