2014 Designer Dolls - Fairytale Collection Part II

Nah I don't debox them at all nor do I change their poses. I believe that I only did that for two dolls, where I had to just turn their heads as they a bit of an exorcist thing going on and they were fairytale Rapunzel and Cruella De Vil. I am actually good friends with DRJ1828 I don't think he buys two of each doll but I know he has purchased extras before but not of every doll besides I really appreciate his photos because he allows us non deboxers to see the dolls outside of their box and in more detail. I know there are some other members within the group who buy more than one in the hopes of trading them for pins or selling them for over double the price, so I find that even more frustrating as it is rather selfish.

Hey guys! Iv been watching this page for a while and I think I want to start collecting the dolls however I'm a little confused? Where do you buy these dolls? Where do you pre-order them? And is there some type if release scedule?
Thanks

No release schedule but they do announce when the dolls are released about about a week or two in advance. Some does are released upfront such as designer Tinker Bell whilst others have preorders e.g Frozen March dolls. They are created by Disney Store so you can find them either at a major Disney Store (as not all will hold them) or on their online website.

I would love to get the whole set, but I am probably only going to try to get two to three at max, so I am probably just gonna wait to the night of release for the ones I want.

Preorder is only for the entire set right? I'll wait to order them one by one like last time

Would love to get my hands on a 17" maleficent and aurora though... Sleeping Beauty is my favorite disney film because maleficent is badass + Tchaikovsky is amazing

So when do we think the pin set will be released for these? I'd love to get my hands on them!

Should be sometime in August.

That is right the preorder is for the entire set.

So they release the pin sets online on the Disney Store? How much do they usually retail for?

Usually about $200 a set. During off expo years the pins have generally be available online but then again this is only the second year that it has been an off expo year so it is still unsure if they will release a pin set and if it will be available online or not.

Ok great! Thank you for the info! But I still have one question? Where do you preorder the dolls? Oh sorry another question I don't think I'm gonna want all five dolls do you think the resale value for the dolls are good as in I would make some money selling them?
Thanks!

Oh I wasn't saying he was selfish or anything ( do notice he usually only buys 1 of the 17" LE dolls but was referring to the DFDC where I think he bought seconds), I have no problems with people who buy more than 1 doll so long as they aren't scalpers who are gonna sell for crazy prices. I absolutely love his photos! Whenever a doll is released I'm all over his flickr account waiting for new pictures I also use some of his doll photos for drawing references too because it's too much of a hassle to take the plastic cases off mine and try to get nice pictures on my crummy phone camera. I love when he swaps outfits of his 17" dolls too.

Also the exorcist thing made me snort lol, I've gotten (I think it was DFDC Ariel) one where the head was tilted up and at a strange angle, looked like they were super interested in the sky haha

To preorder the set would be difficult, I don't recommend that you do so especially if you have the intention of reselling them for a profit as that would not be fair on others who may actually want to keep the entire set. I don't think you will get much for these as these characters are no where near as popular as last years and even with last year's line you can get them at almost retail so buying dolls that you are not going to keep will probably result in you losing out on money.

Also not sure if I want to answer your question, as now I fear that you may just be buying these dolls just to scalp them and I don't really want to help those that only want to buy these to make a profit as opposed to collecting them, either way I did answer this question a few posts back.

LOL sorry I wasn't saying that you were accusing DRJ of buying to resell I was saying that I wasnt as worried about people who buy two dolls just so that they can debox one and keep the other boxed as opposed to those that buy a horde of them, boast about it and then try and resell them or trade them for rare items. Yeah he does have some amazing pictures and they are generally interesting to look at too. I remember when he took the ones of the designer fairytale Beast. That was a rather funny looking doll .

Yeah it can be rather annoying, sometimes its the hair or the head that is off, if it is really bad then I try and fix it, if not then I just put but with it LOL.

Oh haha I'm sorry if I made it seem that I was going to buy and resale for profit I'm definetly not trying to do that I was just saying that if I don't want certain ones can I sell them but most likely I'll just give the extras to good will thank you for all your help!

You're going to give dolls that cost north of $100 to good will? Where do you live so I can pick them up. LOL

LOL well I don't have any children yet so I figured it would be nice to do that oh and I can't find the post regarding pre ordering the set by chance could you tell me how I could do that?

Ahhhh I think (me & a couple of other members here) is only interested in getting the Tiana/Naveen couple. For some reason she would be on top of my list for what dolls I'm planning to get. I'm so happy that I was able to just get Aladdin/Jasmine & Ariel/Eric because those were the only two that I wanted cause they're from my all time favorite movies. Then again, I'm planning to get Tiana/Naveen since PatF is my 3rd favorite Disney movie. Now I'm not saying I'm in total awe with some of the photos that I've seen so far with them but I could honestly say that I'm in love of how true their looks & outfits came out to be. But I would have to wait until the actual stock photos are released at the end of summer to go fully excited for. The two other couples I'm hoping to get as well is Cinderelle (cause it's my younger sister's favorite Disney Princess) & Pocahontas (cause it's my best friend's favorite Disney princess lol). Plus I'm really hoping there would be a pin set released as well. As I was too late to get the pin set of last year's fairytale designers.

I cant wait for this set! they all look marvelous! The only one I may not want is Tiana. I LOVED the movie!but shes not a favorite princess of mine. I have to see her in person to make a final decision. Im pretty happy with auroras design! dolls of her in the briar rose outfit are pretty rare. And i think she looks quite good! Now I need leaks of the 17" ones lol. Keeping my fingers crossed for a phillip!

I just wanted to add that for people like me, who can't afford them but would love to, looking at his photos are second best choice after actually purchasing the dolls. It's almost like seeing the dolls in person.
I must agree, the fairytale Beast looks really funny.

Thanks so much for the suggestions everyone! While I like the thought of paypal for numerous reasons, some of which Polaris pointed out, I think I am going to take you all up on your suggestions of the credit card. Gosh, I hope it works. I am also a de-boxer. I actually take them out of their box entirely and put them in poses in my cabinet on slimmer stands. I know it may make some gasp, but my avatar picture is actually of my Tink doll outside by my plants. I really hope I can add them all to my other ladies. At an absolute minimum, I need Aurora, Cinderella, and Pocahontas. :x:

I can't remember from last year but does the Uk online store stock the designer mugs, lithos etc? I don't remember them last year but I would love a mug with Aurora and Phillip on!

Quick question regarding the designer dolls in general why do you think the designer fairies are not popular? I have noticed on here and Facebook they don't seem well liked, but why? I'd have thought Tinker bell is a popular character.
To me Tinker bell is the only doll I own that can stand next to Sq Elsa LE and still look amazing! I mean I'm not a huge Tink fan but she's beautiful and her wings when the light hits them is stunning and her earthy colours are lovely. I also love the artwork. I don't see why she's disliked:s to me she's the nicest designer doll so far.
I know not everyone likes the same thing but would like to hear why you think she's not as well received.

UK didn't get any designer merchandise last year other than the dolls.

This year they should be getting all the merchandise available within the line.

The answer to your question is simple. The fairies are not princesses. People seem to swoon over princesses more so than any other character in the Disney line up which is why Disney keeps using the princesses over and over again with their releases.

Anything with Frozen, or Tangled will just sell out and that is a no Brainer. Also I wouldn't say the fairies were not popular or not well liked it is just that compared to many other dolls they are a lot more simple and because the hype was no where near as big as say the Frozen, designer or LE doll releases and there was no other merchandise released along with them the hype died rather quickly as they were sandwiched between the two Frozeb Le doll releases.

Mind you I remember someone on the forum foolishly thinking that the fairies were the designer doll release for the year but it was obvious from the get go that this was not the case and I am glad it was not as it did seem like a rushed release to coincide with the tinker bell bluray release.

By the way the fact that it was based on a straight to dvd movie release is probably another reason why it did not do as well. There was just no hype around its release.

The real question here is why did Disney release such high numbers for the Villain dolls when Princesses are more popular... I mean 13,000 ES for the Villains was A LOT.

I think most of them ended up going on sale if I'm not mistaken. Did any of the princesses end up being discounted?

That makes a lot of sense, I really couldn't see how anyone could dislike them as they are stunning dolls. It probably is just because they are not princess's. And the time they released them between the two frozen sets couldn't have helped.
I'm not shocked that Zarina didn't do as well as she is just from a direct to dvd but Tinks is iconic! But alas she's not a princess or from the current "hot" film.

Thanks for your detailed reply btw makes sense why she isn't as talked about as some of the others.

I hope this doesn't annoy anyone( and I loveee the princess's) but after part two of the designer series, I hope they do something different than just princess's..
Polaris do you think the designer series has much more life in it? Do you think we will see a collection next year? I love some of the designer dolls but have noticed since frozen everyone seems to prefer the 17 inch. I personally think the designer line has run it's course after the fairytale part two, unless they do some heroines! But if it's just princess's again then I think it's run it's course. What do you think?

The reason for the high number was the the complaints from the now infamous dollmageddon. The princess designer dolls were all different numbers in terms of how many were made, so they sold out extremely fast (so no dolls were discounted to my knowledge) and the website had numerous issues and problems due to so many people being on it trying to buy the same thing. So just to be safe, they released a MUCH larger amount of villains dolls and made equal amounts of each. This time there were so many though that Disney had problems selling them all lol.

I think the problem with the Designer Dolls is that.. They released the bulk of Princesses already in the first set. Thinking off the top of my head as to who they would have left: Merida, Anna, Elsa.. and that's all I can think of.

Same goes for the fairytale collection, we got the bulk of the princesses already, all that's left is Anna.. and Merida/Elsa didn't really have a "prince" so.

I'm not a huge Disney buff so I could obviously be missing princesses up the wazoo, but still.

Disney will probably make a new LE line at some point in time.

Oh I see! Seems like they had trouble finding a sweet spot, not too much, not too little. I love the villain set but i bought mine all full price, so when some were still around for like half the price I was like awwww man! xD but I still rather pay the whole amount than miss out on them
