2014 Designer Dolls - Fairytale Collection Part II
Personally I am with you on this the princesses are overused and there are only so many ways that disney can keep releasing them as designer before they start looking the same. To be honest I would have much rather preferred that disney just call the fairytale line just that, a fairytale line as there is nothing designer about it.

I definitely see next year an opportunity for Disney to show case the other princesses that were not included in the original 10 so we may see a designer Anna, Elsa and Merida. I am hoping that we will see other characters like Alice, Meg and Esmerelda.

Since next year is also an expo year you can expect the release to be a big one too.

I would say that after that that it would be nice of Disney to end the series on a high and stop the designer line and do something different, but I don't see that happening. Then again the doll sales have declined year after year which is why I think disney will utilize Elsa next year as they know she is a money maker and will bring the series back to life again.

The reason why they picked 13,000 for the villains is because 13 is an unlucky number that is usually associated with the villains. Also as mentioned by others on here they thought it would be a good idea after their issue with the princesses the year before but obviously that backfired and resulted in the dolls going on sale.

Even with the fairytale line last year quite a few took a while to sell out and they were that popular. That being said with Elsa creating all this hype for the dolls that can mean it will be different this year with scalpers thinking that they will sell at a profit like Elsa did which is unlikely as these characters are no where near as popular. Either way in total there are now 25 designer dolls available and with this new line it will bring it up to 30 which is a lot when you think about it. Not to mention that they take up so much space.

But if they keep selling out then I definitely do not see disney stopping the series until it is not longer worthwhile for them and they will probably end up killing the line due to stuffing the market with too much of the same thing as opposed to ending it on a high.

That's great you got the lithos last year but you didn't get the mugs, journals or pins last year, but thanks for pointing that out anyway. This year I believe the UK is getting the entire stock line and not just the lithos and dolls.

30 is a lot of dolls for the designer series,the space one will need if they continue lol.

I agree with you that they should drop the "designer" name as the fairytale collection has nothing designer about it. The first two collections look designer but the fairytale does not. I think it would have been better to just name it the fairytale collection.
I hope they end the line on a high with Elsa and not just keep churning them out until everyone is sick of them.
I always thought instead of keeping doing "collections" why not just release dolls to go with their rerelease(ones who don't get 17inch) I.e Meg, Esmerelda kinda like they did the fairies for the dvd.
 
I can't wait for Cinderella and Aurora in the new Fairytale Series, I just love my Rapunzel,Belle,Jasmin,Ariel, and Snow(variant), They are all so detailed and beautiful, this new line is going to be wonderful! Also what a special thing to hand down to my daughter one day. Love it! But I do not love the loss of sleep when trying to get them. :lol:
 
I feel like after the princesses they may do a heroine line for those like Meg and Alice, but most likely with lower edition numbers since the princesses are the most popular. I also wonder if they might save some sort of designer type doll for Elsa and Anna when they do the coronation to make them officially in the Disney Princess line. But I agree that they're going to keep going with dolls until they're no longer popular. They still have a few more 17" LE dolls to do (Aurora and Jasmine). I wonder what they'll do when the dolls' popularity goes down though, I know I will not be looking into future lines simply because I have so many already and I can't keep collecting more. Some people buy them and then sell them a couple years down the road to replace them with the new releases, but not many do that so they can't expect everybody to continue collecting. It'll be interesting to see what they do next for collector's items.
 
I would also like to see them do some kind of Heroine line - because even though I by far like the disney princesses more than any other characters, there's no doubt that after this next fairytale line the princesses will be close to being "over done". They could do a Heroine line, with many of the other female characters. Esmeralda would be very pretty ^^ but guess it would be more time consuming for Disney to do this, since they don't even have classic dolls for these characters to use for molds.

On another note...
I'm not looking forward to doll season XD I can't wait to see the dolls and more importantly, I can't wait to own them, but the stress when it comes to buying... not looking forward to that. I just remember how stressed I felt back in January. The stress is not good for poor pregnant me XD haha
I'm going for the whole set, I would like to think I have a chance at buying that as long as I'm ready on the day and time of the release. ^^ Then I would like as many Mulan items as possible (mug, journal etc.).

I too would like to see a heroines line maybe we will after all everyone wanted Villains, fairies and princes and we got them. Either way very excited what will come next hopefully something different and exciting next year for the expo.

Very excited for the Aurora/Phillip set and maybe Cinderella, I hope they look as nice as the artwork. But I gotta agree while I'm excited for owning them, seeing the pictures etc I am not excited for the stress. Hopefully the stress will be worth it when we all have the dolls we want in hand.

I keep reading on Facebook and other sites that people plan on buying the couples and the LE sleeping beauty dolls in hopes of selling them to put the money towards Frozen dolls they have missed. And this scares me because I think they will sell out quickly and not go to people who actually want the dolls. The March release has made me more nervous but I'm hoping it was a one off and I can get these at retail.
 

I think Anna and Elsa coronation into the princess line is happening at the end of this year isn't it?

If not then they may do it late next year to coincide with the expo. If they do do this then you can expect a designer Elsa doll next year. That being said I am very confident that we will see a designer line next year that would feature Anna, Elsa and Merida. I highly doubt Disney would risk doing the princesses again so soon especially when they know there Is ad demand for elsa and that she is a highly marketable character.

Also in terms if edition size whilst not as popular the highest edition size of any LE doll is 13,000 and that was for the villains. Whilst I do not believe that next year's line will be that excessive I still think it will either be 6,000 or more especially if they are adding the Frozen girls to the line. Don't forget they could easily create another "line" that can feature not only the Frozen princesses but a whole array of other female characters for example a heroines line as suggest by many. Or a leading ladies line etc etc.


Personally I don't see this line doing well on the secondary market at all. Which means that those planning on buying in the hopes of reselling will be very disappointed and whilst I hope the ed hat genuine collectors that want them are able to get them I also hope that scalpers excessively buy and then can't sell as that will deter them from doing something like this again.

I mean isn't It obvious already? All the more popular princesses were released last year this year was only created to appease those that wanted the rest of the princesses. Granted some of them are nice I just don't think they will be as crazy on demand as those last year. I mean you will probably struggle to on sell these for more than $200 then again you can never tell with the hype that frozen brought in but I do believe that this release will be no where near as bad as pin releases.

In my experience (so basically Rapunzel and then Merida) new princesses get their coronation in October. I'm really surprised they didn't do Anna and Kristoff for the fairytale line though, I thought for sure they would have tried to cash in on the Frozen craze. Hopefully the previous Frozen dolls doesn't make this release hectic from people trying to trade for previous dolls. I can't see most collectors trading an LE Frozen doll for some of the fairytale couples, especially when you consider what the Frozen dolls are going for on the secondary market. In the end they're just going to be taking away dolls from people who really want them and then being stuck with trying to sell them later.
 
I don't think Anna and Elsa are getting coronated any time soon.
I think they go through the whole splash of coronation to bring the heat back when it burns out. And Frozen's heat has been growing rapidly.
I can honestly see them doing it next year on a day or a month that is generally low in sales and attendance. It makes perfect sense.

But until all the fans are satisfied with the merchandise and people have calmed down about the Frozen craze, i don't see the coronation happening.
 

This frustrates me on so many levels.
How inconsiderate for them. And dumb.
People who are fans of this line will most probably be on the look out and first to buy this set. So who would they be selling them too?

I really think that's time for the early links to be locked to a specific group. If they're given to the public, god knows what's going to happen -_-"
I think all the releases from now on will be "2 per guest". Not per order. So that should help hopefully.
 

That bugs me. A LOT. It isn't fair to those that actually want the dolls for their collection! I don't care how good of a movie Frozen is, that doesn't excuse someone doing something like that to get limited edition dolls of Anna and Elsa that, despite being very beautiful, aren't worth the ridiculous amount of money scalpers are asking for them. Its really sad.

But I wouldn't worry about them disappearing too quickly. Just be alert and ready on the night of release. I stayed up till 3:30 EST the night Belle was released, so a good 20 to 30 minutes after she had been online, and still got her. I think you will be fine if you are just alert and get them as soon as they come online.
 

What Facebook pages and other sites you visit? I only visit the Disney Limited Edition Dolls page and this site. I would like to know if here are some other good sites.

And I have not seen these kinds of comments. I think they are understandable however, every time I see the March Frozen dolls I feel sad that I do not have them. Not because I am a Frozen fanatic but because they are the best looking limited edition dolls in my opinion (along with the November ones). But I have the November ones so I think I will survive I am not interested in getting them form the secondary market.

I doubt that these dolls will be as valuable as the Frozen dolls. But I disagree with Polaris that these were made as afterthought to dissipate the fans. Otherwise Snow White would have been replaced with Cinderella in the previous collection. And that Aurora is coming the same year as the her Diamond edition DVD does not seem to be coincidence. I think the more popular ones were put there to see if these was interest and if there was not interest they would not have made Part II. That is however different from not planning to have it made at all. I might be wrong though.

Does anyone else think that Anna and Kristoff could be released next year at D23? I am just curious not planning to get them. I just think they can not do princesses again next year, and weather they plan to do (or nothing at all) I would think they would want something for D23. I am rather curious about the future of limited edition dolls. If they do not start releasing 17 inch dolls when there is not Diamond release or movie release the line can not go on much longer (or they could just start releasing dolls much more rarely). And they can not do designer princesses forever. But while there are people who can not buy any more dolls there are more people who find out about them so stopping to make them soon would seem premature.
 
I go on the disney limited edition dolls facebook and tumblr, flickr tbh I just google disney limited dolls Facebook and a few pop up. I have seen comments on all at various times over the last few months. Or people asking if getting the sleeping beauty dolls would be a good trade etc.
 
That's so silly though. More often than not it's best if you have extras of previous lines to trade, rarely it works vice versa. I received an extra Ariel doll from the last set for Christmas as a gift when I had already bought one, but I'm holding onto her just in case for whatever reason I miss out on Cinderella (or Aurora) from this set. That way makes sense because new collectors who might have missed out on the previous set might buy a Cinderella but really want an Ariel and be willing to trade, although it would work out for the person who got the Cinderella, there are only a handful of people who would do this, in my case I'm only doing it because of the circumstances. Rarely is it that you get a collector who got the previous dolls and is aware of the upcoming ones miss out on the new ones they want. And tbh I don't think anybody who got the Frozen dolls for collecting purposes (aka non-scalpers) would trade them, especially since the Frozen dolls would be so difficult to replace at low cost later and for something, in the case of the fairytales, with a higher LE number.
 
I think its pathetic how Frozen is causing this many issues. It's not even just Frozen product it is the limited edition items. Disney needs to get there act together and come up with something to limit these kind of issues. They truly only care about making the money not having happy customers get the items they have dreamed of owning. It is truly upsetting to me.
 

If they only cared about making money, they would make more of them.

This is the nature of collecting limited edition items. There's not enough for everyone that wants one to o have one. But, at the same time, if they made infinite amounts of product people wouldn't want them because "they aren't special".
 

Unfortunately Disney can't control if people are attempting to buy future dolls in order to trade for previous dolls. That's just something the consumers have decided to do and it will probably end badly for them, but oh well, they'll learn from it I guess. And as xkaokaox said, the LE nature of the items is partially what makes the dolls so appealing. Really I don't think Disney can do anything more than to limit the dolls to 1 per person and try to work on how they actually release the dolls (in store raffles or first come first serve and their shipping process needs to be addressed, as well as keeping a few reserved in case of damaged dolls during shipping that need to be replaced). Unfortunately if people get this in their head that it's a bad idea, it'll be pretty hard to dissuade them from trying and I don't think there's anything Disney can do to prevent it.
 

I think what you point out is fair but why are you blaming Disney? What exactly are they doing wrong?

It may be easy to blame someone for this but shouldn't you be blaming the scalpers for being so greedy? If it is so easy to rectify the issue don't you think Disney would have done so already?

Comments like this always frustrate me because it is just people looking for an excuses and someone to blame. I don't mean to call you out on it but maybe you should ask yourself what would you do different if you were in Disney ' shoes making these decisions? Maybe if you provide suggests to a solution as opposed to just raising the problem that may possibly help them.

I know people suggested removing the edition size but then how many people would hate that due to the inconsistency? Also from Disney 's perspective these are products they want to sell to keep the demand up. No one was complaining back when the dolls were on the shelves for months and yet disney still stuck with it in the hopes that the line would become successful and now that is has they are doing everything wrong?

What frustrates me even more is that I live all the way in Australia. Do you know how expensive shipping is to get items to me? It costs me over a grand last year. But I just had to put up with it because I really want these dolls. Also as mentioned by others here, that is the nature of collecting. Unfortunately it is not a cheap hobby, if you struggle with it then maybe consider just getting the dolls you want as opposed to all of them.

Also I get that people freak themselves out before releases but if you think about it when has a doll ever sold out in less than 5 minutes? Don't forget you are looking at thousands here the designers are LE 6000 which is a lot and even Ariel from last year's line, the most popular of them all pasted at least 30 minutes before she sold out. Now I am sorry but if you knew about these dolls before hand and knew when they were going to be released then surely you would be able to get one.

Even with the LE dolls last year's Eric and Ursula took a while to sell out so again if you were just on there early enough you would be fine. The reason why scalpers make the money they do is because people are willing to pay the ridiculous asking prices. Last year people bought the designer dolls asking round the $400-500 mark but now they have dropped to around the $200 which is not that bad seeing that these dolls originally retailed at $130.

I think that before people freak out and worry about the upcoming release think about it first and it is pretty obvious that this upcoming release should not be that bad at all. even if you were to miss out on a doll I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to get on the secondary market you just have to wait and something good will eventually pass by. If not then oh well that's life, at the end of the day these are dolls and just a collectors item so don't let it stress you out or else you will end up not enjoying collecting them.
 

Ahhh how I know this pain. Granted, you're in Australia so I'm sure it's even more expensive for you, but even in Canada it's frustrating. The nearest store to me in Ontario is about 3.5 hours away, so if I want anything small like journals or mugs or heck, even a tshirt, I have to either drive a few hours to get it or spend a minimum of like $40 for shipping. When the LE March Anna doll came out, it came to $150 US just for shipping, and I had to spend another $25 because UPS charged me import fees (13%) plus another fee (12%) for UPS to charge the import fees. Basically, it's not cheap to collect if you're importing. But it's still cheaper than the secondary market.

I've been collecting since 2011 and so far I've only collected 2 of the 17" LE dolls, 5 of the 2011 designer dolls and then the 5 fairytale ones from last year. After this year's wave, I still will not even have 1 doll of each character, because I only collect those that I really like and some of the face molds or designs I just don't care for. It doesn't matter to me if I have incomplete sets, I'm only going to get the ones I really want. The only doll I ever bought on the secondary market was a 2011 Jasmine because I missed out on getting her, and I bought her for under $100 so it wasn't too bad.

It irks me to no end that people buy large quantities and sell them for huge amounts making some collectors pay outrageous prices to collect, but I also get annoyed when people get super mad at Disney and act as if they should be entitled to everything. If you want a Frozen doll or something else that's being sold for a large quantity (LE Snow White or Alice), then put aside a small amount each week to save up for it and keep your eyes out for good deals. Sometimes things don't work out and you just have to move on. I don't see how Disney can do anything to prevent certain people from buying the dolls. They're not going to sit there and ask "Are you a scalper?" to each buyer and then deny them a sale if they think they're going to resell, that's just not realistic. The most Disney can do is make sure all the stores have the same policy for buying the dolls in person, so all of them follow the first come first serve or the raffle in order to be fair, and then make sure their shipping goes smoothly (and put aside a small amount in case they need to send replacements for any damaged items). All in all, aside from the frustration of the shipping costs and dollmageddon, I don't think I've ever really had a bad experience with Disney. They're handling things pretty smoothly, considering how much of a product they're selling in a couple hours or less.

why would they put Cinderella in the first set instead of Snow when Snow is the first princess? Also they already have a Cinderella variant so to me it makes sense that Snow White is in the line as opposed to Cinderella.

it doesn't make sense that they would put all the popular ones in the first series and then the unpopular ones in the second series because then there would be an imbalance. I honestly think that due to the popularity of the first set and the demand for the remaining princesses disney decided to release them during an off year. It is also because of this lack in foresight that I believe that this line will do ok but no where near as popular as last year. That is probably why they also put Aurora in her Briar Rose outfit and gave Cinderella a make over because doing so would help build hype and demand for the line since the higher earning princesses were all utilized last year.

My only issue here is that whilst it is great that they have finished the fairytale line this year I personally would have preferred something different to the princesses. I mean they are pretty but it would have been nice to see new characters as designers too.

I don't believe they will continue to fairytale line next year as that would be overkill and it would mean that only Anna would be left as merida and Elsa do not have partners.

If anything an Anna and Kristoff designer wold make sense this year but I don't see that happening .

I for one am hoping that next year because it will be a D23 year that we will be getting a designer Anna, Elsa and Merida next year. I can just imagine that disney would want to take advantage of releasing a designer elsa during an expo year as she is a money maker for them.
 

I do not know how to quote two comments at the same time, otherwise I would have quoted you in my previous post. But my comments was response to yours that Disney made DFC Part II as "afterthought to dissipate fans" (I think those were your words). I agree with you wrote above. It just that from the aforethought comment you made it seem that you thought Disney was not originally going to make Part II. I think they were planning to do it all along but were not completely sure if the line was going to be a success.

I only started collecting these dolls after DFC Part I had already come out last year. Perhaps because of it I see the original designer line something that happened a time long ago. It would be strange if there was a Merida, Anna and Elsa designer dolls made in my opinion after so long the originals came out. If there was a plan all along to release designer versions of these characters they would have done it at the expo last year. Frozen had not come out then but the merchandise had. The only reason why i could see them making them for 2015 is because popularity of Elsa and need to made a designer version of her (since alpa could be added to DFC) but really she already had two limited edition dolls so it is not necessary. I seen them making something else with the princesses again more likely that making more designer dolls.

Also, when I sometimes speak of designer heroines I mean designer in the same sense the DFC and the fairies are designer, not couture. I think Disney is using the world designer in a sense that the line is is not strictly film accurate and has some different vision. If they were to do heroines I do not think they will do couture. The heroines are not recognizable the same way villains are and are not as popular as princesses. If the heroines were done in the same way barely anyone would know who the characters are and there is no novelty anymore.

Anyway this was just my own speculation, nothing serious.
