On the topics of opps, I recently saw a post (on Facebook) of someone whining that they haven’t won anything despite having spent so much on the numbers. I was so annoyed. That’s the beauty of a random draw/ lottery. You have a chance but nothing is guaranteed. Maybe it’s the nerd in me, but I was (and still am) so frustrated just thinking about it.

To add onto that, I know we joke about enabling each other but we also care about your wellbeing over your pins, so... dont waste your money on opps/ pins if you have other responsibilities!!

Ok just needed to get that off my chest
️ have a nice Tuesday, everyone

Thanks! Now I just have to figure out how to use Instagram and Facebook.

Yeah no kidding, times like these I reconsider my not being on social media. Gives buyers a chance and it's pretty profitable for sellers.

It's absolutely a great deal, or it could be. I gave up Facebook a few years ago and now I find myself wanting to come back just for the pins.

Did you know ops are illegal in the state of CA? Just saying. :/

I did! There are certain loopholes like calling it an opportunity drawing and stuff like that if I recall? I don’t remember everything off the top of my head, but there was a big debate about in on instagram when they first started. Everyone uses the same typical format on instagram and Facebook for them, but honestly this is my first time doing an opp so I’m still a bit of a newbie lol

I just want a chance! lol But you're right, with my luck I'm better off buying straight out, be spending more on the opps overall! On the other hand, as a seller this is awesome!

I think the problem is that this individual trots out this "whine" about every two weeks. Sorry to anyone who knows her IRL. But, like, give it up already. Do you whine about the freakin' lotto every time you don't win? Cuz that's pretty much what you are "investing" in. Ha ha.

(Sorry, I've noticed this too and felt the need to validate your annoyance!)

Okay okay I'll stop...

I don't personally like the ops. Like Mark said, they are illegal and it's against Paypal's policies to use them for collecting payment on them. As far as I know, there are no loopholes, people just make up stuff that sounds good because "everyone does it". It's always been a sore spot to me, people in the furry community who break Paypal policy, ie: running raffles/ops, accepting payments as f&f almost always get caught instantly and have their Paypal accounts shut down, but people in the FB and IG pin communities abuse the rules get away with it. I've reported rude and nasty sellers from FB who would only take payment as f&f (this option offers ZERO protection, for both buyer and seller don't forget!) and nothing would happen and they continue the practice. It's also against Paypal policy to ask for your buyer to cover your fees! This is part of the terms of service! (I'm ok with it, ONLY when it's for direct at-cost pickups because otherwise the person doing the pickup doesn't actually get the full amount back)
I don't mind the occasional op, where someone is charging like $2 or something, but so many that I see, I see the price, and I multiply that by how many entries they have open, and you see how much money a seller is making and only giving up one single pin. Like stuff where all the prize pins sell for maybe $50, but the seller made $200 by running the op...
Anyhow, I'll get off the soapbox!

Man, people can retire on the profit made here! Note to self, need to move to Cali.
It's interesting that paypal doesn't allow you to collect payment on them, how would they know? How do they know what any personal payments are for?

If you take in too many payments from different people as friends and family in a short amount of time, PP will flag your account. Which is why some people have multiple PayPal to spread it out.

Thank you so much for the information! Like I said, this is my first time doing it so I’m not completely versed on everything and I’ll be honest I haven’t educated myself in the laws around it. I just know there are dozens of people that do it on Instagram and FB. (I personally don’t have a Facebook but my mom does and I peek at the pin groups every now and then.)

This probably will be my last time doing oops since now I’m uncomfortable with the idea lol

YEP. They raised the limit to like $22,000! So I dunno, if someone is making that much money a year reselling pins, I don't think they should get to cheat the system.

I also wouldn't want to see the Cast Member who helped a friend or family member to get these pins get into any trouble as they could be seen being associated with the raffle.

That could easily happen, especially if whoever is selling/raffling had visited WDI before. As they keep a record of who comes and goes.

Yes I totally agree it’s awesome as a seller, ESP if your winner doesn’t even choose the “highest valued” pin. I don’t have a prob with opps themselves (besides the illegal in California but there’s some loophole that I don’t really understand thing). I entered one for maleficent dark tales, didn’t win, and never entered one again lol
