Another Newbie Question - Pin Dates

Some Pins Have Dates old and new. I'm familiar with the current pins, that the dates correspond with the year it was presented (21012 for example). The pins that are dated in the 1940s or so, does that mean that is when the pin was made? Or is it showing that - say a movie - is the date in which the movie priemiered?

Sorry writing this on the fly so I don't have an pin # to give as an example.

Not sure what you mean...

If you mean Pinpics numbers, those are just in order, created as the pin is added to the database. So if I added a pin today, and the last pin was 8609, then my pin's number would be 8610.

If you mean the number that comes on a pin's card, those are SKU numbers, and while the date *could* be embedded in that number (if they wanted to make them that way), we've never really seen any evidence of them trying to. Since they have to have enough SKU numbers for all the merchandise they sell, who knows how they actually allot their numbers?

The numbers on the bags for DS.com pins are more like item/inventory numbers then SKU numbers, but kinda work the same, and also don't have anything to do with release dates (that we can tell).

Give an example of what you found when you get a chance...

Oh, and pins from the 1940s are very, VERY rare, so no, it's not likely that whatever trend you were thinking of applies, but it will be hard to tell until we see your example.

Oops! Typo! The example was suppose to read 2012. That simple typo turned the whole question to be nonsensical.

One example of a pin would be Melody Time Pecos Bill Cowboy with a date of 1948 showing on the front of it.

No need to answer the above question..... while looking up pin number I found out the answer to my own question The pin was released in 1999. Nonetheless, you gave me some important information. Thanks Abyssinian28.

Like, as a part of the actual pin design, on the front! Yeah, you answered your own question...

Half the time, like for holidays, it's the pin's year (like Very Merry Christmas Party 2008). But there are some series that are for celebrating the year the movies are released, like you discovered!

yeh, anything on the front usually has to do with the event or the movie release date...when looking for when the pin was made, that is on the back sometimes, not all pins have the dates on the back and thats ok, that is how they were made.
