Are they scrapping DSF pins ?

I was not sure if the same rules applied to the DSF pins as the regular pins. I am mainly talking about the borders.

Will the ice cream cones seamlessly fall off the pin or will there be a border. I have 4 pins from DSF and all of them have obvious borders but they were only released in Julyish. I would have a hard time imagining they did the scrappers that fast.

I saw a lot of the LE 300 Soda Jerk DSF pins on eBay being sold for really cheap. They keep on relisting them over and over.

Not to my knowledge did they scrap DSF pins I have plenty of DSF pins that I bought at the events that the cones cut off.

I think there are a few out there that have been scrapped. Mostly some of the older DSF pins, but lately I've seen some rather odd looking soda jerk pins and a Jack Skellington pin with a Zero puppet that do not look legit. Though I think the majority of their pins are safe.

Yeah the couple I have though and they have borders around them...is that what you meant? The rest of the pins look perfect. No dips or anything. I was just curious. I do NOT think they are scrappers. Just checking to see if anyone has seen any.


I have seen those on ebay too! I just traded for 1 through pinpics. It looks fine except for the back. They have a border around the pin. The cones do not just fall off like the mickey ears do on legit pins

current DSF pins do have a kind of border. The ice cream cones get closed off real close to the edge, but do not go off the edge, so the edge does not have any raised pattern that runs off it.

The current pins do have a border. Two of the PTD pins I have do have the border. I know that they are legit pins because I purchased them in the store.

The most common DSF fakes are the characters in Director Chairs, primarily Jiminy and Mickey, and Chip & Dale. I've also seen fakes of the Tinkerbell Pin Trader Delight where she is holding a platter with a cherry on it. Extra metal, rough edges, light weight and cheap. I have had both real and fakes of that one.

Yes, there have been scrap or counterfiet DSF pins. The only one I know of is the Maximus. (yup) pinpics actually has the counterfiet version listed as well. But I am sure there have been a few others. DSF controls the manufacturing a bit better that the standard disney I think.

The ice cream cones used to go right off the edge, but all the new ones I have purchased recently have a border. its a clean, even border though. DSF is also switching some of its pins to LE 500, so dont freak out if you see that in the future too.

DSF DOES have some open edition pins. The Tinker bell on top of the hollywood sign springs to mind.

Almost all of my current DSF pins (purchased directly by us) do have a border.

Here's some pics (just so happens that I was photographing my marquees last night, front and back... )
So, this is based on marquees only...
First, this is the Nemo marquee from a few weeks ago:

Nice obvious border, and open ice cream cones when they are cut off...

And this apparently isn't new, as this is the back of the Oliver marquee from 2009:

Notice that the ice cream cones are actually closed off on this one...

And then there's Toy Story 3, which doesn't have a border:

So it may vary from pin to pin. TS3 is a jumbo pin, so it may not have easily fit into their 'mold'.

Also, looking at the Nemo pin, the pin-on-pin element does not have the ice cream cones, but on some pins they do... That seems to vary from pin to pin also...

Yeah, not only DSF but a number of pins bought in the parks have the borders now as well. So far I have not seen a real pin with a *raised* border, only a flat border like in the photos above... so it's possible that a raised border would still be a red flag.
