So, I think we should be able to post pictures off files on our computer. I'm not able to upload pictures to the internet, so this would be a lot easier for me and others in the same situation (though I doubt there are many). Does anyone else agree that being able do take pictures from files on our computer would be more effiecient?

The problem is that the site may not be coded for such. Someone has to host the file no matter what, so in order for us to be able to use files directly off our computer, we would still be uploading the picture to the DPF server for them to store. Of course that takes up space on their server then and someone has to be able to manage that space and delete older files.

Most forums I'm on allow a small space per person, once they hit their limit it is up to them to manage their files. I had to join Flickr for this site. And photobucket, imageshack, etc. is blocked at many workplaces. I often have to go to my iphone Forumrunner to view peoples pics on this site because they used blocked hosting sites.

I use tinypic.com and photobucket.com and they serve me well. I personally prefer using external sites over something that is built into the forum because forums can only host a tiny space if they can host images at all. We already have a tiny space for PMs and even that I have to go through every week and delete some so that it doesn't take up too much space. For photos, I'm sure it'll be even worst since sometimes I post lots of photos or some of the photos are kinda big thus large in file size. It's a nice thought and idea, but i think implementing it will be difficult and won't be enough for what people actually want.

I don't understand why you are not able to upload pictures from your computer onto the internet. If you upload them to DPF, you would still be uploading them to the internet.

No, I don't think we should be able to upload pictures from our computer. Like everyone has said, it takes up a lot of space and is not worth it.

I think with so many picture hosting sites, which you should be able to sign up for as they are free it's an unnecessary waste of DPF space. Pictures use up more space on your computer than any other one thing, well besides large programs, so why clog up DPF with that much space. The way it is now keeps it free, if they have to increase their server space than they might need to start charging people to use the site. For those of us who've been around since the beginning it's never been an issue, so why make it one now. In life one adapts and changes when things don't go our way, I don't see why it is even an issue.

Tinypic is blocked at work too

It is probably not an issue for anyone but me. Our security program on our computer don't allow access to a lot of the websites that were suggested, and I also don't have permission to access the websites that are safe. I'm not trying to start a rally or anything, I was just seeing if anyone else was in the same position.

Do you have facebook? You can upload the pictures to facebook and post them on here.

I use Photobucket, which is free and nice. Another option is to maybe e-mail another member the photos you want to post, and then they could make an album for you under their account? That way they could be there for sharing but you wouldn't have to go to the site yourself to do it.

That information may be outdated, depending on where the site is hosted... I don't know who hosts this site, but most hosting companies have switched over to 'no storage limit, no bandwidth limit' services. When I first started hosting my own site, I was limited to 1GB of data and some amount of bandwidth, and I always tried to keep my site under that size. After several years I decided I was going to have to upgrade to more storage, and when I logged into the webhosting service website, it showed my allowed storage as 'unlimited'. I was shocked at first, but as I looked around I found a lot of services have started doing this now.

Of course, if the site is being hosted somewhere for free or something, that might be where the limiting comes from... I'm not sure who runs or pays for the site. And I'm sure there's the hassle of making the changes to the forum software and such (not sure how vBulletin works behind the scenes...), but it might not be completely out the realm of possibility if it's something the site owners wanted to do...
