Just curious....looking for others input. Are there some pins that you will ABSOLUTELY not trade? Or do you have your entire collection up for trading?

Thanks,
Christine

It's changed over time. I used to think that I would never sell or trade off any of my collection. But I've been collecting/trading for 13 plus years and recently realized that I no longer felt the same about some of the characters/themes. So I sold them on Ebay last year... Now my collection is mainly SB, Maleficent, and Haunted Mansion. I can't see selling my SB or Malie but who knows how I'll feel in a few more years...

I agree with PoohLady, your favourite charachters/pins can quite change with time, as can the "focus" of your collection. Anyway, there are a bunch of pins (I'd say a couple of dozen) that I will never sell no matter the price (unless you pay me so much I can rebuy it plus another grail ;) )

I've changed my collections and when I do change them I put them up for trade I did collection wreck it ralph nightmare before Xmas But now there up for trade my wreck it ralph pins have gone just got some nightmare for Xmas pins left I also buy some of the uk pins and add them as traders

For me, I have my:

Traders: pins I have specifically for trade and don't want myself

Collection: these pins are part of my collection and not offered as traders, but if the right grail came along or trade for a keeper pin I'd part with them

Keepers: pins I can't see myself parting with and won't trade even for other grails unless my feelings about the collection changes or there is some mega keeper grail that is even harder to find offered for the pin. Basically if a huge grail comes along that I may never see again in my life and the person wants a keeper pin I can acquire again I'd trade. But other then that hands off! Lol

I have a hard time parting with any of my pins. We ended up making a "trade back " box that we use when we go to Disney. We go once a year.

If I ever see someone looking for a pin , I look through the b ox to see if I have it.

You can see there's a little bit of everything for handling your pins. I think some people just love the activity of "Trading", so "collecting" is not their primary objective.

Most of us "collect" pins that we want to keep for various reasons - favorite characters, memories, etc. Our traders are for the purpose of acquiring pieces for our respective "collection". We will also purchase collection pieces depending on the situation.

I do recommend, if you have not done it already, is choose a theme for your collection - character, situations, foods, holidays, unique qualities. We had one collector, who only collected black and white pins. Another only collected pins with butts in them.

Whatever you do, collect what you like and have fun doing it. If you just like to trade and not collect - go for it.

There many pins for specific sentimental reasons that I will ABSOLUTELY not trade. I've pretty much got my all traders on my trades list.

Now that is a VERY specific pin set - LOL!!!

I don't really trade anymore. My main collection is Snow White & the Seven Dwarfs. I wouldn't part with any of my Snow White pins because the collection means too much to me & I love Snow White for many reasons. That being said, I have many mini collections where I would probably trade or sell the pins if I needed money for a grail or was low on cash. That being said, I recently restarted my Sleeping Beauty collection & I'm kicking myself for selling or trading the pins. I did get one of my grail Sleeping Beauty pins back & it's not leaving my collection.

I would never trade anything from main collections I am trying to be a completist with unless I have doubles, but side collections are pretty much open to really good offers where I might like one pin better than what I currently have, as those are just for fun and not as special to me. Anything else is always up for trade. I don't get attached to random things, even if they happen to be really cool.

I will agree that your likes change over time, but I'm still too new to pin collecting for anything to have changed just yet. I also know that I am an obsessive, so I tend to hold onto my ways for a very long time.

I have three categories: traders, keepers and considerations. Some pins I have but don't necessarily want for any collections are up for trade, pins that represent something important to me are going up in a collector's shadow box and then there are pins I really like but could trade if someone else wants it more than I do and can trade me something I would never trade away later. I don't put my considerations up in my traders, but will mention them if negotiations can be discussed over pm or email.

It doesn't matter how rare or expensive the pin is to me. If I like the particular artwork or character I keep the pin. Emotional attachment!

Life or death, everything goes. Homeless or not, everything goes. Just to make a buck, owns list is owns, trades list is trades. Although I do put the trades down as owns also. But if it's for trade it can be sold. If it's owns, depends. Core collections like WIR, DA/DS.com Tinks, Grand California Hotel, Star Tours, Cars Land, probably won't go anywhere. But then again I never thought I'd sell my PTD's or marquee collections and they increased in value so much, the dollars are starting to outweigh the want for the collection.
