Since the purchase of Marvel by Disney, I have been saying I would gladly collect Marvel as Disney or Disney as Marvel pins, similar to what I collect with Star Wars as Disney or Disney as Star Wars. I mean, you have Jessica Rabbit which could be every Marvel heroine or villainess, Donald would be hilarious as Iron Man, Chip or Dale as Rocket Raccoon, and on the flip side, who would not buy a Captain America pin with Mickey Ears, or a Doctor Doom pin with him wearing "I'm Going to Disney World" shirt.

As I was walking through Toys R Us today, I came across the weirdest and coolest thing I have seen in a while. I give you, Mickey Mouse as Iron Man!

They also had a Spider-Man too, which seemed odd since that is Sony (Spider-Man), but it got me thinking, if they are able to do this type of merchandise, and I am in Maryland (so the east of Mississippi River rule may have expired), does that mean pins like this are soon to follow?!?

I would definitely love to see Marvel as Disney pins and other merch. I'd love to see pins of Marvel characters at Disneyland. There's a shirt that has Darth Vader on Astro Orbitor with a Mickey ice cream and I think it's hilarious, I'd love to see Marvel villains on various Disneyland/World rides.

I don't really care for Disney as Marvel, but I wouldn't mind if they did stuff like that.

Also, I thought the rule was they couldn't have Marvel themed rides/lands or Marvel characters to meet. I thought merchandise was okay, but I'm not sure. I remember someone saying they can have Marvel merch at World of Disney in DTD, just not in the parks.

I personally prefer a pin with a more "movie-accurate" look to it, but I always love to see new ideas and concepts. I hope Disney makes som Marvel as Disney or Disney as Marvel pins.

Hee hee hee I would love that! I love the Mickey plush. That's awesome.

It wouldn't be that different from the Disney characters dressed as Star Wars characters, which I always think are totally adorable.

I would adore seeing a rocket raccoon pin! But in case you were wondering, the reason that they have spider man despite the movies belonging to sony is that they have the right to the character due to the fact that they own marvel and marvel owns spiderman. They just dont have the right to make movies of him or the x-men due to previous contracts that were signed long before disney bought them. Just like they wont be able to have the characters inside Disneyworld any time soon because of an agreement made with Universal Orlando, but those of us close to Disneyland will be able to get some of the characters, like Thor coming this November!

Since you may understand it better than I, I have 2 questions

1) In 2010, there was Marvel Merchandise all over WDW's 4 parks and Downtown Disney. When we went back in 2012, it was out of the parks, and only at DTD. Why the change?

2) Tying into #1, if they are not allowed Marvel in the parks specific, does that also include items like Marvel as Disney/Disney as Marvel pins, as it is a combo creation of Marvel and Disney, regardless of what studio owns the character rights for films?

Without being able to see the actual contracts I can only guess.

My guess is that like having characters in the parks in Orlando they cannot have the merchandise. However, like the Marvel themed Monorails that do not enter the park, they can have the merchandise outside of the park, like in downtown Disney. So I imagine that when Marvel pins start hitting, they will be mostly sold in Downtown Disney and maybe the resorts.

As far as characters like the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Spider-Man they can use them in merchandise. However, they cannot make movies with them and I imagine any merchandise would have to be based on the comics, and not the film versions. So like a Wolverine figure would have to look like he does in the comic, not like Hugh Jackman in his black x-men suit.

Oh as for why it was in the WDW parks and then not, I don't know. Once again this is a guess, but I bet Disney got a visit from a Universal Parks lawyer and took the stuff out.

Mellonballer is correct. due to the contract already in place, they are not allowed to have the marvel characters inside of disneyworld at all at the moment. They are starting to implement them in their other parks though. Disneyland is getting Thor to interact with come November and we'll actually be getting an opening day pin. I think that should be allowed into WDW though since it is movie specific. I'm not 100% sure though.

As for your second question for Disney characters as marvel characters. I think that's actually a loophole that disney is using to it's advantage with the mickey in Marvel costumes. I think they would be able to get away with pins like those in the parks since they own the rights to both characters, they just wouldnt be able to have a mickey mouse costumed character running around for pictures.

Really? I thought the only marvel pin that's coming out recently is the Thor one. That was the only one that showed up on their last pin board. I'd love to see the pics if you could ever find them.

Ok, those pics are awesome! Thank you for sharing them! I hadnt seen most of the pics on there. I do wonder if the monorail one was only WDW. It didnt say, but I hope it's not. I want those too! . I'm super excited now. Though I really wish they'd get a bit more loki in there, either movie version or comic version.

I am super excited for them finally doing more Marvel pins. Just have the DSF is not enough. Now I have to figure out how to get the ones that are WDW ones.

While Disney ultimately owns Marvel, I still see them as a different studio. Same for Pixar and Lucas Studio. I dunno what to think about the Movie themed monoraills at WDW, I kinda still see them as Monprail Pink and Purple...

I saw these in a store here in IN and they had the Iron Man and Spider Man, but they also had Incredible Hulk...he was the best of all three!!!
