I was looking at the D23 castle pin set on eBay and two sellers have offered me a set for $85 each.
Seller one has 9 sets available and 100% feedback.

Seller 2 has three sets and 99% feedback.

Are there fakes of this set out there, and if so, is it likely that these are both sets of scrappers?
Personally I wouldn't be trading it so I don't think I would mind that much; if anyone has received a scrapper set, I'd love to hear your experience on the quality. :)

I have heard there are fakes of the castle pieces :(

I have had good luck on eBay, as well as some pretty terrible luck. I would ask for pictures of the backs to check for misspellings at the very least.

Yes there are a lot of fakes of this set out there. At 85.00 for the set there is a very good chance they are fakes. You may get a couple of real pins, but most would not be.

Thanks guys.
The first seller replied to my polite request for a closeup of the set I'd be getting:
Specifically what do you need to see?

My time is very limited over the next few days

Think I might pass on his.

I removed the name as we prefer not to publicly have names posted, either good or bad. I will say, looking at their auctions however, some key words flag almost right away

Please note: pins are not like coins!

all pins are circulated and have been handled

these are not PROOF PINS and might have scratches and other 'defects'

you CAN return any of my products if you are unhappy,

but your preferences on pin quality does NOT translate into 'defective' or 'scrapper'

I will say I am surprised they did not go the normal route where they say these have the Disney Copyright and are 100% tradable at the parks (another flag)

Oops sorry broncobilly! Great advice though, thank you. I think I'll steer clear especially sine they've continued to be pretty adamant about not taking pictures. :)

I've seen sets from what I'd deem reliable sellers (Either I've bought from them and got genuine pins or they have only listed a single example of the listing) , they've been listed at $150 plus but haven't sold so I'd expect it to be around the $125 mark but that's just a guess . At $85 I'd be sceptical but it's not impossible , the number of sets would worry me slightly though .
Feedback on eBay is sadly no great indicator anymore , even the obvious sellers of scrappers have scores of 99% plus

Found some of the pieces on CM lanyards at WDW. I'm pretty sure they are fakes. I wouldn't put them in my collection or trade them. In the trash they go.

Is that because they're really bad quality LuvSimba, or just because you have a rule for no fakes?
I've bought lots of small pins that I like and have individually picked off eBay and fb groups, some of which I'm sure are scrappers but since they're just for my personal collection I don't mind as much.

I have an absolute no fake rule. No one I know wants to receive a fake pin for their real pin, I know I don't. But, that's just my rule.

Also, people say they don't mind fakes, ect.. But somewhere down the road, many sell their collection and can't remember which are which. I buy collections and refuse any that have more than a few fakes in them (I point out the fakes and tell them they can keep those, or reduce the price. The ones that make it an all or nothing deal, those fakes go in the trash.) Just food for thought later on down the line....

I'm actually getting some unopened boxes in about a week if anyone is interested. My mom hoards things for me from Disney and she will be up this next weekend! I only need Bambi. I pretty much just have her grab things for me to use as traders. I really do like this set and I am contemplating collecting it.

I have a very strict no fakes rule too. I have a few that I'm trying to determine but I just CAN'T stand fakes. I get so irrationally angry over them. I don't want to trade real pins for fakes, when most clearly don't look good.

That makes sense for sure.
However I live in Australia so just logistically, I wouldn't sell my pins as the shipping would be crazy, plus I've only been picking ones I really like for keeps. ^_^
