Well I'm hoping this year I can go. I have never been and I would live to go. I have some questions regarding the event. Is there pin trading at this event? Should I bring my pin book? And another thing do they usually sell pins that other people like the public can't get too? Thanks and who's going? Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

I really want to go to D23. I've always wondered about that too. I think they sell pins there.

Aw! I have never been either... I am not even a D23 member!!
Yeah. I am pretty sure they have exclusive merchandise.

I have been to the two previous Expos and have my pass for the third one. There will probably be four temporary stores that will offer LE pins. The D23 Expo will offer the official event merchandise and pins. The Disney Stores will offer their usual items plus a few LE pins. They offered the Cinderella dolls and pins at the last Expo. Mickeys of Glendale will offer their own WDI LE pins at a special store inside the Parks & Resorts exhibits. The last store, Treasure Trove, is upstairs in the Disney Archives and will offer the D23 LE pins. DSF offered LE pins during the first expo, but did not have a booth or store at the second expo, and are not expected this year. Some of the exhibitors have given away pins, like the Chase Disney Visa Card. You do not have to be a D23 member to buy the pins. However, since D23 members enter one hour before the general public. That means D23 members get first in line at the stores. LE300 -500 doesn't last long. Also, the top level passholders actually get to buy their pins the day before the Expo opens.

There has always been a large number of tables set aside for pin trading. The problem will be choosing to sit at the pin trading tables or go stand in line to see Johnny Depp or see excerpts from upcoming Disney or Pixar. In 2009 Disney Studios showed 2/3 of the Princess and the Frog.

I was only planning to attend one day, would it be safe to assume the best day to go purchase LE pins is the first day? Or do they stagger LE pin releases throughout the weekend?
Thanks.

The LE pins and merchandise were staggered at the first Expo, but at the second Expo, most of the LE stuff was released on Friday. The notable exceptions were the Cinderella dolls and pins from the Disney Store on Saturday. Only, the D23 Expo has announced beforehand the official event LE pins and merchandise. The WDI/Mickeys of Glendale, the Disney Store, and the D23 Treasure Trove stores have not announced what will be sold in the past.

IMHO, you should go as a group of five on Friday. Get in line around 6 am with charged smart phones. Others can go on food/beverages runs to the Hilton food court, while waiting in line. Dress in layers - morning marine layer can bring cold early morning temps. Once, you are inside, each of you get in line for the four stores and the fifth gets in line for the arena presentation. The smartphones allow you to communicate with the other four as to what to buy inside the four stores. The Disney Store would have the lowest priority.

Are you suggesting saving a place in the presentation line for the for those buying things?? I think people patiently waiting in a presentation line would not be happy to see 4 people showing up for "saved" space. That's like cutting in a pin line. Pick one or other: buy pins "now" or get in presentation line & buy later.

In 2011, The D23 Expo store had different pins & merchandise each day (Friday: 101 Dalmatians, Saturday: Dumbo, Sunday: Cheshire Cat). The Treasure Trove also put out different pins all throughout the Expo (many were LE 300, so when they ran out of one, they brought out another)

Hi, I am going also, will be my first time. Others have told me that no cell phones are allowed inside, due to no picture taking rules. Just thought you might want to know. Have a great day

You DO check your cell phone going INTO the presentation arena, but you can have it with you in line & other places

more info and tips please.....i just joined D23 and want to try and go. i will be alone so i want to make a little possy for this wonderful idea BUT i have a question you mentioned doing a group of 5 and each taking a line..but if each place has a LE 300 or 500 release do they not put purchase limits? If you cant get 5 of everything then thats not a great team idea. I at least want a partner to do some pin lines with.

The D23 Expo store last time had many of the pin items limited to 2 per person...

I at least want a partner to do some pin lines with.

I can bring the alcohol...

I don't mind waiting in some lines to pick up pins if you're in another line. If there are any villain pins, then I'll definitely want those. Other than that, I'm open. I'm sure if we put our heads together, we can create an awesome game plan. And I'm sure there are a few others from the wine club that would want to join.

BTW, thanks to everyone for the information!!! btowndude: great ideas... but suzanne has a point about a group of people jumping in line. I don't want any drama, this should be fun.

I personally travel solo, but Disney lines seem to get these gangs of people who show up toward the end. The D23 lines are no different than the park ride lines. In the morning, mom or dad is in line most of the time. Then as the line gets toward the door of the convention center, the kids finally show up. It happens inside with arena lines as well.

As a person who attended both 2009 & 2011 Expos, I know that "saving places" in presentation lines is not welcomed by those already patiently waiting in line. More like pin release lines than attraction lines. Try saving places in pin lines? -NOT
